Mary Ann Diangzon, a 20-year-old Filipino-Thai second-generation member, reflects on growing up inside a Blessed Family tradition and how a second-gen life of faith is rooted in gratitude to Heavenly Parent and True Parents.
I'm Wonju Pan — a GLA-Nit, 20 years old, half Filipino and half Thai. I'm second-generation: my parents joined the church as first-generation members, were matched, and received the Holy Marriage Blessing from True Parents.
Born into a Blessed Family, the tradition was just normal to me. I grew up doing Hoondokhae, going to Sunday service, and giving donations every week. None of it struck me as strange — I had been doing it for as long as I could remember. It was a lifestyle.
Everyone has their own connection with God and True Parents, and you can't really compare one person's life of faith with another's. But what makes a second-generation faith distinct, is that ours is mostly shaped by gratitude and love toward Heavenly Parent and True Parents. We were born because of them — without True Parents we wouldn't be here. That sense of indebtedness and deep gratitude is always there.
