Laureta Scorcea shares her excitement and gratitude when she and her husband Marius were unexpectedly invited to return to Korea for the first time since their 2003 fundraising mission.
My name is Laureta. Standing in front of people isn't really my thing, but I couldn't say no to Karen — I wanted to express my gratitude for the chance to go to Korea. Let me start from just before: Uncle William sent a message on the WhatsApp group asking who wanted to go. My first reaction was: yes, I want to go to Korea. We had always wanted to. Every year we'd plan it — next year, next year we're going.
The last time we were there was in 2003, when we were on a fundraising team. Since then I had so longed to go back to Cheongpyeong. We both did. Every year with the children we'd say, "next year we'll go back," but it had never been possible — going to Korea usually means 21 or 40 days for seminars, and with work it's hard to take that much time off. It's also expensive, and there's always one thing or another.
When I saw Uncle William's message I said yes, though I didn't really expect a positive answer. A few days later Michael Williams replied confirming I could go, and I couldn't believe my eyes. I went and got my glasses to check I'd read it right. I was so happy.
There had been a period when I wasn't feeling God's presence so strongly. I think it happens to everyone — sometimes we just feel down. When I saw that message, I thought: how could I not feel God's presence? God is always there for us; we just need to feel Him. I felt so grateful in that moment.
