The Pattern, or Criteria, of the Unified World

(This is not an official nor complete record of True Father’s speech. It is Tyler Hendricks’ transcription of his own handwritten notes of the simultaneous interpretation of the speech. He edited these notes for the sake of clarity. In brackets are his reflections that came as he listened.)

Everything exists according to a certain rule by which to reach its own perfection. Within a country are families and, within each family, individuals. There is always an order and a rule, and without that there can never be a unified world. This rule and goal applies to each country in the world.

There are only two kinds of human beings, men and women. These two create families, clans, nations and the world. No matter how large the sphere becomes, it starts from a man and woman. What is the individual? The world can be seen as an individual with mind and body unified. [That individual is the microcosm.] That individual is the point that brings mind and body into unity. [Does that point embody the pattern? And it is the same on every level?] Like us, God has a mind and a body. There was a motive.

There was one God, not a Father and Mother God. Because the root is always one. Through one root, the branches, limbs, twigs and fruit appear. Two roots are not necessary. In God, mind and body, male and female are one. Seeds are a perfect example of this. Each seed has two elements within one shell. Everything starts from and ends with one seed. One seed becomes one billion cells, making up a “me,” with a mind and body. Mind and body must unite as plus and minus.

How did it all start? We came from God. God is a perfect being, whose mind and body are one. If there is no God, then there are no ultimate ideals. [How man differs from animals: animals do not get together, debate, and fight each other as groups. Especially within their own species. But human history is one of war. It happens all the time. How could God create man in this way? The only way to answer that is that there was a Fall. If we do not posit this, then we cannot posit an ideal.]

So, the perfect God and man would not voluntarily separate. Something interfered with the natural order. There was a growing period during which the creation was not yet perfect. It must have happened to the man and woman at the same time, not to the woman a long time after the man. By the time they united, they were already disordered. There is one thing that we, Page 1 of 4

man and woman, do together. Father observes that boys’ and girls’ interests and likings are always toward the opposite sex. Something draws them together. Why? It is the same as with the mind and body. They always try to get together. Two men talking always leads to fighting. Men and women talking creates power. It can even result in the woman taking her clothes off. Men kissing men is not thinkable.

The man-woman relationship never gets old. It is an eternal attraction. We never tire of it. It has the same smell, shape and feeling, but it is always fascinating. If there were no true love, we would not want to look even at God. God looks like me. Man’s and woman’s five senses can be united forever without either getting tired of it. This is so even for grandmothers and grandfathers. When one gets old, it is even more precious. When they are separated, they are unhappy. When they are united, they are happy for millions of years. And everything around them is happy; even the dirt on their skin. One doesn’t need to be reminded of love by a schedule. Everything is natural; neither God nor parents are necessary. No one has to say anything. God will approve. But Satan exists. The key point is that there was a rule as to the time of man-woman union, of marriage. A certain age of maturity.

We like the dictatorship of love. The stronger it is, the better we like it. Will the woman take the man to court to divorce? Or will she ask for more love? Its sound is really good. Embracing and wrestling together; it is exciting forever. It is God’s only excitement. He gets excited just as we do. If He meets such a couple, He will never leave them. True love has eternal content. If a couple’s hands are clasped and one itches, should they let go in order to scratch? No, you have the clasped hands scratch together. And if there are two itches, and he asks her to scratch the second one, will she complain, “you make me a slave”? No; she will say, “you are the number one king.” God, man and woman—the three become one. In that condition, we never fight. That love can unite hundreds and thousands of individuals. [The Trinity is a social principle.]

The fruit of good and evil distinguished good from evil. God saw the possibility of the good becoming evil. Does the commandment restrict freedom? No; it gives freedom. For the sake of freedom, God said, “don’t do it.” Is smoking freedom? No; it deprives us of freedom. Freedom exists only in truth. The truth cannot exist with falsehood. To approve of the false is to let go of the truth. The two do not coexist.

True love is highest freedom. Within love, people can fight—for example, boxing. God and Satan could have a lying contest, and God would win. The only area in which this does not apply is love. Fidelity can never be a game. Power, money and knowledge are not so critical, but love is very strict. You don’t want to damage love. Page 2 of 4

Should schools teach children about love? NO! In the experience of love, men and woman don’t want to remember, “this is what the teacher taught me.” We want to remember only God. Each teacher teaches in a different way. This is not nature’s way. Love is not something that can be taught in a school; everyone knows it without learning, from birth. No third person can intervene or interfere.

Do you understand freedom? Freedom exists within boundaries of rules. The rules are universal, for the sake of everyone, so freedom is not for the sake of “me.” The purpose of freedom is to multiply goodness. There is no freedom outside of the principle. Good reproduction results. There is no freedom apart from responsibility. “I” have to be responsible.

[Freedom results from the principle of love expanded and applied to the level of society. For example, the individual acting freely — responsibly — in a crowd. No mob rule. It puts love above law on all levels. I love the crowd as I love myself. This is the answer to Kierkegaard’s critique of mass society.]

Only love bestows and permits, makes us worthy of enjoying, absolute freedom. Only love can surpass law on the level of the family, society, nation and world.

The father-son relationship is vertical. It is the realm of the mind. The husband-wife relationship is horizontal. It adds the realm of the body. The father’s force always wants to give love downward. [On the egalitarian quality of family love, because of circular motion.] Love must not be selfish; it must be channeled. For example, the husband’s love for his wife is a reflection or spin-off of his love for his son. Spouses should say to each other, “please love me as you love our children.” There are twelve directions, creating a sphere. This is the triple objective purpose. For Nansook-nim it’s the same. The whole universe is looking at Hyojin-nim’s and Nansook-nim’s love. When Page 3 of 4

the vertical axis is in place, perfection results, no matter what. Everything standardizes according to the axis. The axis is the universal standard of value. Since everyone can stand in the position of the axis, no one complains. The same principle can be expanded to the world and cosmos. The tribe, the nation—it’s the same formula. The leader of the greater whole is in the higher position on the vertical axis. The cells in our body manifest the same system. The vertical and the horizontal. This is a revolutionary, truthful concept. It is the heavenly law. Without it, America cannot endure. Love brings life and blood lineage. The creation of people happens only on earth. Therefore, lineage is important. Contraception is killing heavenly people. Epidemics or some great disorder come to balance this out.

Follow the pattern, and all problems will be solved. “7,” in the center, is the place of rest. I want six couples surrounding me. Go around two times and you have 12 months. There are 12 kinds of people.

History follows a sine curve. People on the top should give to those below. The sine curve applies to nations, to husband and wife, to grandchildren. It’s the same as light—it goes on and off. When the parents are up, the child is down; when the child is up, the parents are down. If the grandfather is angry, others are like mice. Don’t fight with your grandfather. Go down faster, then you’ll hit the bottom and quickly go up. Those who control things are those who are going down. Therefore, the unity of the world comes from “me and you,” referring to husband and wife. That is the unified standard point forever.
