Never pattern yourselves on the existing idea of a what a minister is

[Father:] You are tired? …

[Sang Kil Han translates:] Those who are sophomores, or seniors, raise your hands. And the juniors? When the senior graduate, that will be the third graduation in Barrytown. And the fact that some of them, the first, the second year and the third graduates, some of them have dropped away from the Family during the courses, this is really a source of dishonor for all of us. We should really regard this as a critical dishonor for all of us, we cannot be indifferent, saying ‘I am not him, that has nothing to do with them’ This doesn’t go, actually; the whole group of alumni are one, this is the way it is viewed.

Like we go through examinations, just to test where we are, if we are up to par in scholarly achievements, since without test we have no way of making sure where we are; likewise here, from the juniors going up to the seniors we have to all get together at the end of the junior year and discuss with each other, or poll each other, making sure that none of them are ineligible among those who are going up to the senior year. We have to make sure that all of us during that year are eligible, or qualified to become seniors, so that none of us will have a chance to become a source of discredit after the senior year and also after graduation. Do you follow? We can turn that as a self-protection. If we don’t do it ourselves, some people are bound to drop away, and it becomes a source of discredit to all of us, whether we like it or not.

As soon as I heard… Father’s plan is to at least bring 150 people into a PhD course, i.e. going through our

own course and then going to universities in America and around the world. After they have achieved these courses and got the degree, that in itself is not an end. We have to gather from these 150 graduates of PhD the best one, and improve their on the job ability. The will have to go out and do social work and function as leaders in various parts of society. We have to do that. We have to make people who can do that, not just people who have a heavy degree with them.

We will have to nurture them, train them, in such a way that they ca even exercise their influence over the congressmen and the senators in their education. Congressmen and senators need to be enlightened just as much as any other people in our work, namely in God. So, those will have to be able to do that. So, in a way we have to train in a vast scope, so that we’ll make sure that congressmen and senators in America are eligible people, not just professional, conventional people, but really men and women who are capable, or qualified in a true sense to be in that position. Not just anyone, like it has always been. Do you understand?

Before we are able to do that, i.e. before we are able to influence in any degree the education of even congressmen and senators, we ourselves have to go through extensive training, and we must be confident in all walks of life. Whatever the field we are going into, we must have at least minimum qualifications. Let us say, if you are in the political field, you must be able to achieve a minimum standard as a political person. It is the same in economics and all other fields, you see, e.g. teaching or running a factory in a managerial capacity. You must be a master of all trades, and a good one, too; the better the better. Education will of course be much closer to your area than some other fields, such a politics and what not.

One thing we cannot afford to do, a thing we should never associate ourselves with, is the existing idea of a minister. That is one thing we are not going to be, a minister - as it appears now.

Why would Father have a sleepless night? Just having this image on you. Father feels so heavy making every one of you qualified in that way, whereas some of you have not even begun to think about your own future. Father has to make every one of you into such a versatile and very educated man. In this sense, Father will have to train you in various other ways, not just one way, the way you like it or the way you think it is possible. You have to go through many different ones, some of which you didn’t even image in the past were possible. That too, you will have to be interested in. In order to do so, Father will have to push you in some ways. This is the vast work Father has in mind for you, so you have to understand that as deeply as possible, so that Father can make you into that person.

When you hold a degree and you are qualified as a professors, Father doesn’t want you to just be a professor, but a professor with leadership, with the ability to lead other professors in crucial areas Father is interested in. Do you follow? Why should we? What if not? The, there is not future in America, period.

This is the realistic foundation we have to have. The criteria Father just told you about, i.e. that we have to become the masters of all fields, and good ones. This is the only basic qualification. After that, we will have to really influence every one of the people, educate them in their thoughts. Thought being a really basic element in human life - in America it is not yet, but it should be. So, in anti-communism, for instance, we have to know why communism is bad, and why we have to oppose and contain communism and hopefully expel it out of America and out of the world. Why is it so? We have to have a sound logical background before we do that. In one word, philosophical thought should be the basis of what we will do in anti-communism.

How are we then going to achieve that? One thing Father can say right away is, we have to achieve it through going through various things while we are still in school. Just committing ourselves in incredible fields we never thought of, to an incredible degree. In other words, in very simple language, we must do everything, try everything and achieve a good success in everything. This is the only way for us to one day have that qualification. So, Father is thinking in a concrete way, that we will have a farm here, and we even will have a factory here, whether simple or medium, we will have boats here… a teachers association, everything you can think of, including of course ministerial work. Do you follow?

This is why Father originally thought, and still very seriously thinks, that women can never be able to compete on the same basis as men, because they have to get married, and when they get married they will have children, and during this children bearing time there is a gap, and soon after there is another one. This is not discrimination. This is the way women are. e.g., if you get married to a man, even if the man is a saint, they will not like their wife to go out of the family and work, just like they do. They will rather have them stay in the family and keep the family and support him through the family. Almost every one of the men are not happy when the wives go their way and does the same work he does. He doesn’t welcome that.

May be the only exception to that would be if the woman does not mind waiting an almost indefinite amount of time and do just like men do, only that they won’t get married, and when they are through it, at almost forty years of age, then they would consider getting married and retiring into their home; may be that would be a different story. So, you have sort of a choice, as women, whether you just try to forget

about your career and go right into the family… or, if you study, and Father invests into you, if you have a high education, then soon you will get married and have babies and be confined at home; what good will it do, why spend so much time and effort?1 Do you understand? Why wouldn’t we increase the number of men? It is inevitable that what Father said will come to pass.

The standard should be in men, … even teaching martial arts very strongly, so that people will wonder: this is supposed to be a theological seminary; why are martial arts necessary? Isn’t that an institution of peace? Before we ca educate someone, we need to have the ability, we just can’t say things with our mouths only. We have to have a real ability to educate other people. Then, in labor camps, in wharfs and constructions sites, what language is the strongest language there? It is the power, the fist power or muscle power; that is the only language that is effective there. That is not too much of an exaggeration. You might not use it all the time, but if they are going even with your trying to teach them, trying to get some message across to them, and if they are trying to block that with their fists, the only way you have to break through is with this kind of fist power of yours, to defend yourselves.

Then, let us examine where America is now, really, in a most practical sense. Father still maintains that two years is an optimum time - that within two years the country will be deteriorating. Just plain deadlocked; it will be washed away. Beyond that point, there is not recovery. So, we have to have a union… Father already predicted that labor unions would have a bad effect on America. It is already so. So, we will have to have a labor union based on the Christian spirit. A Christian labor union is the only alternative. If we don’t have that, the present labor unions will be converted cleanly into communist hands. There is no way to bloc that. Labor unions of today will gradually become communist oriented and simply fall into communist hands. Can you understand?

The only way to prevent that, just like Father said, is to have another union based on the Christian faith, which can do that, and the ones working on that will be none other than you. When you graduate and when you finish your education, you have to be able to create another union with your own hands. Do you understand?

There are not many alternatives in America. If we don’t do this, if we don’t do a few of these things, there is absolutely no way that America can be diverted into a hopeful direction, there is none. It will plainly disintegrate and perish. How about women? This is an intellectual thing we are in, but it also takes a lot of muscle power. So, can women do that? This is a question.

You see, when a dike gives away, there is a tremendous flood of water. It is just like that; we have to be able to survive that, and we have to be so strong, that we will not only survive in the most critical places, but that we will also divert that trend in some creative way. So, you can only imagine to what incredible degree we have to train ourselves. So, do not ever think that we will twice better or three times better, or even four times better than ordinary ministers. We have to be at least a dozen times better than them, or we won’t serve our purpose.

Are you a seminarian, too? How can you doze off? This is really serious, in a life or death way. We have to think… Father hasn’t told you yet on any occasion, but Father has a purpose in gathering you here and educating you in this situation where on one hand, our own manpower is so critical at the moment, and we have hundreds of them here… Father even has extreme thinking; it is when communists have a war and occupy some formerly free countries, and nobody does anything to protect them from communist aggression, communists will of course destroy all people, they will exterminate, kill, brainwash, everything, and nobody is doing anything about it, including America of course - they stopped doing it long time ago - then, Father feels, as a last measure, if there is any last measure, Unification Church members will volunteer out, not as mercenaries, but as a volunteer army, not less than an army. All around the world, not only America; Korea, Japan, and all the young European Unification Church members, they cannot sit …

Not only Unification Church members themselves. Of course, when they stand up, we expect many other people who feel the same way to stand up a volunteer too as an army. You know the army, it is all up here. When the morale is good, then the army is strong. When the morale is low, the army is nothing, no matter how many they are in numbers. So, we have to educate soldiers in a moral way. Who will do that? Of course, the Unification Church members are the only ones able to do it for other people. And even among the Unification Church members it is you, who are highly educated, who can do it. This is one thing Father does not rule out. There may be one day, who knows, that we even have to do that, if nobody is doing it.

Better yet is going to Africa and operate great big.. fishing industry. That is more practical. Father still has that in mind, too. Do you follow? As Father knows, and as you know too, leading a student life, no matter how difficult the study is, is still an easy part. Of course, you have never hear of it and you are not aware of it, but Father already has every bit of plan already undergoing… like a few weeks ago, Father had gathered numbers of people in every field and really discussed in an extensive way and he implemented a plan in an extensive way, so that one day you will have to follow that pattern… Africa and South America.

I told them to gather all the information, so that when we have this information, Father will have a clear blueprint for that, that is why…

Father has been in touch with one of the greatest political sciences professors. That professor gave Father his opinion, and Father was happy that it checked Father’s own. Father is making sure that all plans are feasible and practicable. You’ll never understand how much and to what extent Father did in the last two years. Do you follow?

Again, the thing in you is that you are in the golden age. This is the perfect age for you to train, and there is nothing you cannot do once you set your mind. This is what makes Father’s plan possible. You are in the prime of life. You can do it.

So, each one of us has to be aware that our standard, and of the standard as a class, if you feel that so and so is so way down below the expected standard, then you have to bring that to the attention of the class and say so, so that we can prevent him from advancing more and graduate, and then being washed away later and become a source of disgrace. We should stop that by from happening by having him repeat the course or just quit the course, so that he won’t give you discredit in the future. Do you understand?

Academic standings are important, but it is not that important, you see. If that is the goal, what Father can do is extending you one more year at the Seminary, and if you repeat what you studied in the past, certainly you can go up to 3.5, even close to 4. That is less of a problem, not so much of a problem. Becoming a real man and having a high academic achievement are two different things.

So, Father tells Mr. Kim to set a standard, set concrete criteria, so that everyone will have to meet that standard, and if they very apparently don’t, something will have to be done about such a person. If you maintain that standard, it will come to pass that you will enjoy and undisputed reputation in the future. Everyone, after hundreds of thousands of young people come into the Unification Church, they will be looking forward to coming and be one of the 50 among the new class of the Seminary. Do you understand?

Father is even considering a three-year course for Barrytown, instead of two, and some of you will go through a PhD course right here in Barrytown, hiring competent professors and additional faculty members. In the future, Father will pay more attention, in terms of qualification, as a primary characteristics, being a football player or being some kind of athlete - having that kind of quality. In other words, one has to excel in that sports field and enroll in our school, more so than academic standards. Father’s idea is, as long as they don’t flunk, it is OK. Other parts are not that important. You have to have that quality… like many students now. Then, Father will one day make the strongest team in football in America. We will organize our own football team, our own soccer team. Then, we will say, the Theological Seminary Football Team. If you can do that, in itself it will be a great big bomb, like an atomic bomb. Just the name’s sake. And if you won the American national competition, the world will gaze at you, stare at you in disbelief… ‘That theological seminary!?’ All the theological seminaries in the world will be the first ones to be surprised. How can this be possible?

Now, you see the image of ministers… the best ones, you just hate to even imagine. Father feels that some if of the ministers would drive in such a way that there will be a few people killed, Father would not mind that. If a minister has that enthusiasm, that extraordinary sense of effort, then that would be more essential than abiding by the law, and being so cautious and careful as not to be able to do anything meaningful. It is far better the other way than this way. Father really doesn’t see any sense in it, why become a minister, why don’t they become something else? If you cannot become like that… Sometimes Father’s car goes on the highway and all cars are kind of rough on that day, there are such days, and there is one car that drives really lazily, gently, Father thinks that this car must be driven by a minister, it must be a nun, or a really old man [Laughter], and sure enough, when Father passes by… One time, there was a priest; Father really felt sick that a priest should be that way.

In this crumbling America, if the priest drove as wild as a boar, it wouldn’t be enough, let alone if he drives most gently on the highway. How is he going to deal with these other people, other animals? That means, the priests are believing that they are detached from reality, they are standing somewhere dreamy, most unreal, not even caring so much about society, may be interested in heaven… Father doesn’t say, ‘go fast,’ he won’t say that, but when you find Father happy here, it is a day when Father made the travelling in 1 hour and 15 minutes [Laughter]. And the day Father gets here in 1 hour and 30 minutes, that is the day when Father feels very bad. You can tell by Father’s expression. We are really that busy.

Let us say, when a traffic cop catches up with us and we are fined and the police is writing the ticket, let us really be serious and see what Heavenly Father thinks, when he looks down on it, will he blame Father and say, ‘why don’t you maintain your dignity and drive within the legal limit? What you are trying to do is getting to two places instead of one, that is why you were driving fast and you were caught. Watch your manner!’ Will God really say that, will he really feel jittery at the traffic cop who is trying to give Father a ticket, if one ever does? Can you understand that? Every law is an average, you see? A traffic law takes

statistics into consideration, i.e. the average standard that is. In other words, if you go considerably faster than …

… If there is such a safe speed, Father feels it should be the speed the patrol car is driving at. That should be the safe speed. If they have that urgent a business to go that fast, then certainly we do more so, we have more urgent business. Father is not making you think that way, but at least this is the way Father feels, that is the way Father thinks himself. No one can change that. So, Father has an alternative to keep within the law, and yet get to may places in less time. The only way is hiring or buying a helicopter. Would that be all right? People would start talking about… again, how wealthy Rev. Moon is and how much more he exploits young people.

Do you understand that business … you are laughing. Father has an image and standard. If you follow Father ten years, and if Father has the opportunity to train you in ten years, then America will change that much. Father has a clear vision about the change that will come after that time. Do you understand? That is one point you must learn from Father, Father feels. There may not be anything else to learn from Father, but this one point you must learn, really learn. How come it is possible for Father to think like that, to be confident in that way? That is one thing you have to learn. Don’t you think that way? Sometimes don’t you wonder, how am I going to learn, how am I going to become like him?

It is hard, the money, Father put in so much time into the Theological Seminary, how much Father would expect out of this, Mr. Kim should know as a president. So, Father really expect that one day all graduates from Barrytown will become world-renowned leaders in all fields, in the political area, in the economy… As soon as the accreditation comes, Father will be much freer to tell you what to do, and to direct you what to do. Father might even order you to get to the mountain and get boars and bears, doing successful hunting, bringing in some result, giving you a certain time to do that. There would be many things Father would want you to do, and you just jump right into it. Do you understand?

Father might send you out, and he might even go with you into the Antarctic and catch some whale. In America, you cannot catch them. There are some whales around, but you cannot catch them; but down in the Antarctic, if you get some fodder, you can catch them there, in the public waters. What God would like you to study, really, honestly, is about the world; pay more attention to the world; certainly not given assignment you are given by professors at the school. If you keep studying theology and theology alone in that conventional way, you will only discover a microscopic, and certainly not gigantic part… [Father laughs]. One slight difference on belief, and first of all there is another denomination, and that denomination claims its rights. My area, my congregation…

The world is not that way, and certainly nature is not that way. God would like you to know nature. Father loves nature and he knows this is one of the reasons why God loves Father so much. Father cannot help it, he doesn’t want to sleep comfortably in a room; he’d rather go out and sleep in the nature, in harmony with nature.

[Father continues in English:] Especially in spring [Yes!] I like …

[Korean again:] The ocean is really like a heroic, great big scale of life. When the ocean is very still and calm, butterflies would like to come an rest on it. But when it really gets angry, in a storm, even the whales would like to escape from it… Man’s temperament should be like that.

If it is big, then there is room for anyone and someone to come into you and rest and enjoy. What if you are very small? Then nobody can come in. Instead of meditating, God rather have himself go out or have you go out and tackle nature, may be dig a well or cultivate the soil. He wants that activity, rather than sitting still and meditating. This is why you have to exercise your body to the maximum. Karate is best for that. So, when spring comes, we will have the annual event, don’t worry, carp, catching fish. May be you have been through that long enough, so that even if Father won’t come, you will catch more carp than last year. Would you?

[David Kim discusses with Father in Korean…]

Father’s net is in good shape, right? I scolded all winter, right? So he is ready to catch. May be, within this month we can first try, before you go fundraising.

[Father:] There will come a time when Father will stop giving you allowances and food. Food you will catch and harvest yourselves. 150 people, this much food will be no problem. You just catch, even the fish you can catch and you can dry them after salting them. It preserves indefinitely, all year around. Fish is as good, and some (doctors) say it is even better than meat, beef or pork or chicken. Fish is better actually, and there is plenty of edible fish. We can catch it, salt it preserve it, and we just keep eating it the rest of our …

Father says American girls should be a lot prettier than they are now. Diet is one reason. When you eat just like that, you cultivate and you catch fish, especially the sardines that come in, you catch them almost by tons, and you sprinkle salt and dry them and really chew well and eat, you will be much prettier than you are now, and the men will have much better complexion than they have now. Especially women will have a much better,

Also better for man to look at. Think that this spring, when the right time comes, you will catch fish like last year. Don’t say ‘I caught enough, there is not enough,’ you catch as much as you can and salt it and dry it, and you can eat it the rest of the year. Health… Think this is part of your fundraising. Since you don’t have time, you cannot go out and sell something and make money to buy something with it. Rather, harvest directly.

Carp is the best fish to eat. Jewish people, it is the only fish they eat in fact; in Japan they say the best is Carp. Here, the Carp smells… a little. But, if you put it in a pond and you let it stand for half a year, then they get all that smell out, then if you catch them one by one and you cook them … you tag the fish and you see how long it has been there, you cook them and eat them, this is a really delicious fish - carp. The red goldfish, you don’t eat that, but you rather sell it as an aquarium piece, as an appreciation fish, to look at, not to eat.

[To Franco:] How much money did you get from farming?

[We sold potatoes for … dollars…; Carp … dollars…]

You still have something here?

[David Kim:] 80,000 pounds to the welfare? - about 30,000.

How much did you lose? Is it true that Father gave you $100,000? - Not $100,000.

[David Kim:] So, we did not make money.

Can you make starch out of it? - Yes… - Is it an expensive process? - To buy the equipment and so on may be expensive.

[Father:] When you harvest, don’t throw it away…

[David Kim:] we can … into potato noodles…

[Father:] Store it in a warehouse.

[David Kim:] Do we eat our potatoes from our field? - Yes. - Did we not send the first harvest to East Garden and Belvedere? Why not continue sending it? We did. Even we sent some of the first harvest to Neil Salonen’s home, to Kamiyama place, to HQ, to the World Mission Center. You keep sending. The reason is they will eat the Seminary’s blood, sweat and time, so they will feel good, even though they will not get their money back… [Laughter] … Father said, the Divine Principle… [Laughter]… Kamiyama may think sometimes he has no money to give you … payment. Then, Father will say, ‘you already ate potatoes from them.’ Father wants to help you in financing… different. This will become an indemnity condition; you cannot pay back 100,000, so a small number with love, then that the clear way, and keep sending, at least. … he is afraid not to get the money… [changing his voice] how can I return the money to Mr. Kamiyama … Keep sending to Kamiyama until he says no. OK [Prolonged laughter]. [All the above translated by David Kim with additions and turmoil, sometimes barely understandable].

[Sang Kil Han:] That is the way public relations are.

[Father, translated by David Kim:] The teachers did not report to Mother and Father we did it.

[Sang Kil Han:] Father was wondering, why don’t I hear about the potatoes Barrytown sends us. Every time Father’s table was set up, Father was vaguely anxious to meet the potatoes that… But, as Mr. Kim says, it wasn’t introduced [Laughter]. Father was upset… liquidate all that Father supported, thinking that… came back, Father would do that gladly, if Father had a nice meal of potato. Father would immediately write it off, in his mind. But the fact that Barrytown did it and the fact that Barrytown is

sending potatoes is reminding Father of all the things that they did, and that in appreciation they sent a huge number of potatoes, that is the begin of liquidating all the debts they have incurred.

Especially, when you are about to win the heart of ministers, you must really study about the art of giving, giving very liberally, even small things; occasionally go and smile and explain about the small things you give them and give them these things. They will appreciate it so much, because basically the ministers re living off people like that, they depend a lot on donations. So, if you donate a few potatoes, that will make them immensely happy.

Father already told you last year. When we catch fish, we eat it, but much of it we will give to minsters, saying this is the fish we caught. We live on it. Also, when you become minister yourselves, you’ll stand first in line and catch some fish and give it to many people in your own congregation. It will win their heart, if you do that. And, who knows., that may serve a as a topic for a sermon of yours. Giving a sermon is difficult. May be when you catch fish, give one fish to them and make that as a topic of your sermon.

If you are going to witness to many numbers, that is what you are going to do; you will go out and catch fish and distribute to them and explain about it, give a sermon about it. That is the way to approach people freely and communicate with your minds. As a minister you will go hunting and may be get a boar, which is a wild pig, and come back and … give a chunk of meat to them, which is just like pork, or better than pork, because without fat… [if you do that,] will the ministers call you names, saying why are you killing animals? No, when they eat the nice pork chops, they will change their minds. It will really work.

Father’s whole point is that we need that kind of a leader, who goes out and does something with his own muscles and activity. Don’t you think it is worthwhile for you to do like Father said, do all these things? Go out hunting, wrestle with nature and bring back some trophy or some results, some harvest? Shouldn’t you do that, at least once in a while? Father will give you two horses out of the stable. Mr. Kim said they are basically children’s horses and we can’t do well [with them], but Father said it is OK, we don’t need half a dozen of those…

[David Kim translating:] Who is the horse lady. Is Elizabeth here? She is at a conference. Who is taking care of the horses? Nora, she is with the children.

[David Kim speaks with Father in Korean] [Sang Kil Han translating:] Some horses are too rough to handle. Strangely enough, they like Master. Whoever… they kick you, so as a layman, if you to train yourselves and get kicked by a horse, this is not so good. So, may be, Father will give you two gentle horses out of the stable, so that you can ride around Barrytown. Take turns and ride on them. Sometimes you will find that, to escape - to beat it - you can go on horseback when you don’t have a car. You can ride to the mountains… [Laughter]. What guarantee do you have that you won’t get into such a situation? Look at the Bible. Jesus was pretty much on the run, wasn’t he? He was escaping from one place to another, avoiding… We need to learn horseback riding, fast.

You may not think much of it, but Father really feels that if a few people from out of the class even after two years of extensive training like this, this is something impossible, it is a disgrace of disgraces. Certainly as graduates, after being two years here with you, side by side, that proves that the education was ineffective. The ones who did like that, who dropped, are Americans. Then, you have to say, Americans are like that. That is the way it will be… turned. Do you follow?

So, the point is, when you talk about responsibility, then be responsible in common. Common responsibility is the best responsibility. So, whenever we do, we do whatever mankind should do. After we are done, we are responsible in common, not individually. That gets us nowhere. We have to have a common standard up and a common responsibility. Make sure that you take care of yourselves, but just as well as well of the person next to you. Don’t be indifferent, so that they drop away.

The CARP came the other day and went through their training. Do you remember, a few weeks ago? That CARP on the West Coast, now, are really engaging in vigorous activity. On two campuses, the largest campuses in Los Angeles, they confronted the communist students two days ago. When we were launching an effective movement against communism, the communists were taken by surprise; later, they did not know what to do, so they beat us. They used violence. Policemen were surrounding us and everybody there. So the policemen were the first to jump at them and they arrested them. All twelve of them are in jail now.

The thing was, when that happened, when they used violence on us the police immediately arrested them, the school authority and faculty were very happy, because communists do that very frequently, and the school don’t believe in violence, so nobody is doing anything against it, and if nobody is doing anything against it, the police cannot arrest anybody. But we confronted them head to head, so the school was very happy. Also, many students were happy. Many students did not like the communists, because of their ways. So, when we caused them to be arrested, they were all happy and applauded. A fresh report came

Father told CARP to go ahead and fight, even if they had to pick a fight. It attracts the attention of the people, and now all the CARP members there were happy, just like Father, to find out that people still have some expectation, they are waiting for something nice to happen on campus. They have not completely given up. All this moral degradation of young people, how to stop it? There is concern about those youth problems, the drug problem and the communist problem on campus. Their slogan was such a good one, “Let us bring God back to the campus.” That movement was necessary, it really appealed to the people. Apparently they haven’t given up hope yet about the college campus, because they were all applauding when they [CARP] confronted the communists.

When that confrontation came, the school newspaper was the first one to report, the full frontpage. It also appeared on the frontpage of a local Los Angeles paper, giving attention to the incident. Then, they say, whoever that is whom they call CARP, they are really nice, they are doing the things everyone would like to do, but cannot. CARP is doing it. So, everybody somehow supports CARP and has an approving mind about CARP, not knowing who they are. Later, they will say, ‘Oh, CARP is the Unification Church itself.’

If you were going to start something just here in American society, where would you begin? Would you begin on Capitol Hill, or with political parties? The best yet is the campus. College campuses are still tender in heart, all the brains are there still, still healthy and intact. They want something to just happen. Something is wrong, they know. They want to correct it.

Also, the Professors World Peace Academy members, the professors who know about us, will applaud. Also, the professors who have been in Barrytown and came into contact with you previously, when they hear that CARP launched such a strong movement, they will applaud. When that happens, when we have something to show, the Christian churches will say, look, that is what Christian churches will have to do. Even the professors who came here, and have been blamed for supporting the Unification Church, will say this is what CARP is doing, and CARP is the Unification Church; look at what they are doing. This is why I am supporting them. This is what Christians have to do. They will say that the Unification is not just right and just, they are also the ones who will carry things out, express things through action, not just thinking about it, like everybody else.

[Father, in English:] Brave. Not ‘bribe,’ but ‘brave;’ this is more important. They are not ‘bribe men’ but brave men, something people will respect. After stirring the campus up (stirring in a good sense), making them think twice that there is still hope, then what happened? Father’s next move is to gather around all theologians and professors, this is what Father’s strategy and tactics is. So, Father is recalling all graduates from England, who are doing an IOWC mission now, he is calling them back to participate in CARP activities. Do you understand?

What will they do? These graduates coming back from England will permanently … to the CARP activities, and when CARP stirred things up they will met every one of the ministers and theologians in that community and school, and they will get together. As Christians, we must do something about this, showing the example. They will meet many famous people, like Oral Roberts, Billy Graham and these big evangelists. They will discuss with them to make the Christian labor. As laborers, as workers, we must have a label of Christians, not of ordinary workers, but Christian workers.

Father already studies that very tangibly. Father is not just thinking about it or dreaming about it. A million dollar construction has already started at the Manhattan Center, as you know. Father is renovating the Manhattan Center. Father has taken everything inside, almost … Also, the seven-floor stadium, Father is rebuilding it completely. It will be the best in the world. There is nothing like it. There is not two of them, of the same kind, in New York. In order to come, a civilian contractor, a construction worker, asks for $3 Million. So Father organized our own labor force, with our own members, and they are doing it beautifully, doing it for $1 Million. They are doing a top professional job. That is on the eight floor and up of the Manhattan Center. What about the lower, grand hall of the Manhattan Center? That is a $13 Million project. They are asking $13 Million to do that, whereas we are now planning to do it for half, about $6 Million, and we have already started, taking everything out, with our hands.

That will be an example, a ‘demonstration organization.’ Look, this is what we are doing, this is a prototype of all Christian labor organizations, constructions companies composed of Christian people. Do you understand?

What if we don’t do that? Then the communists will agitate the Hispanic and Black laborers, especially in Harlem. In that area small constructions groups or whatever other groups, and labor unions are there. The communists will go there and agitate them, and let them fight against the white people. That is what communists are about to do and already doing. Before that happens, we already have a labor union with a Christian brand, and we will confront them … not only… If the Hispanic and the Black people do that against the White people, who will get hurt? Both will, and the communists will gain. Whereas, when Father has done that already, we can not only protect that, especially we have god holdings already with

Black and Spanish people now. Because many Black and Spanish minority leaders are already coming to Father and they are being trained now. Did you know that? Many are undergoing training.

This is a big, grand… you can imagine the scale and significance of it. So, we are getting around and protecting all the minority labor groups, such as Blacks and Spanish, these people, equipping them with the right ideal. Once again, …

… and college campuses. When these two places… All these are, including the violent forces (the gangster forces not always), these fields are the primary target of communism. That is the root and the bed of the communists’ rule and operating. On college campuses, they are already well established, making cells and organizations, which nobody is doing; in labor unions, there is already much communist leadership; so are gangsters, the drug pushers and peddlers: communists operate through them. Somebody has to mend these new relations and sever these relations with communism and tie them back again with the government and the right kind of leadership. Who is going to do that? It is you, the Barrytown graduates.

When you … yourselves after graduation and get into that actual situation, you will have to give a speech and persuade people. For this, you will have to have the qualifications. You can’t say that you are graduates of the Theological Seminary, and that therefore you are going to do something good about society. That is not enough… They will ask you what you did in the past. You can say, ‘I have been fundraising, where I labored to raise the funds harder than any of you who are there, in the labor unions’ - which you did. When you appeal about the danger and about setting America on the correct path again, you can really talk with the blood, you can give a live talk, because you have been through it already.

So, you will have to raise every testimony, every proof of your activity here in Barrytown. When you go to college campuses, you ca say, ‘I have studied twice as hard as you did in college,’ just to show an example. And when you go to Christian churches, you cannot just say, ‘let us revive the Christian spirit again.’ Instead, ‘I have witnessed, I have gone witnessing this way, I have witnessed three times as hard as you all Christians here.’ And you actually did, you can prove it. Do you understand?

So, you can have … the last point, the proof and evidence. The fact that you did fundraising with such a zeal is evidence enough. When you go to the labor unions and try to talk to the people there, you tell your own experience. That will really move the labor people, because they thought they never had friends, they never had any people who labored harder than them; that is where the discontentment comes from. You are the only ones who can get close to them, because you have a common experience, even a better one. Likewise, when you go to churches, what you did in school in witnessing… tell them that what America needs is not only the handful of you, but all of the American young people to do exactly the same as you have shown. And you are not just talking by mouth only. You can prove that. When you go to college campuses, it is the same way. What you are doing in Barrytown, in one word, is all the material that you will manifest in the future in talking to these people.

Then you have to testify. You can conclude that the one who taught me this is Rev. Moon himself. When he goes to the mountain, he is a mountain man, a hunter. When he goes to the seaside, he is a fisherman. He fishes better and longer than anyone else. When he goes to a factory, he is a perfect laborer, a topnotch laborer. And yet, he has the highest standard in the academic field. You can witness to them. Such qualifications are too good to believe in. And when you talk to the Christian people and say, ‘Rev. Moon knows more about God and Christianity than anybody in the ministerial work; and not only that, there is a difference from heaven to earth.’

All these areas you will … picture. And you will have to make relations with them, you will have to tie them up. You have to isolate a group into the center… you have to be an organizer. Then, whoever will be the most central person in that activity will be you, the organizer. Now let us think to ourselves: if we start Christian unions under the present circumstances in America, in other words if we make up a union which is comprised with Christian people with a Christian spirit, will America support this, or will American people say, ‘we don’t need that here.’ They will have to [support], because inside the American people, there is still hope in Christianity, something of a Christian nature. Once they begin to see the feasibility of it, that it is possible to have a union tainted and flavored in a Christian way, … in a real Christian way, many of them will want to join and the labor unions will collapse.

When Father began the fishing business, a long time ago, among the many enterprises this was a profitable venture, and when Father began that, he had a source of income to be spent in this way. In other words, this would be the money… for those projects. Do you understand? When you understand what Father said this afternoon, you will begin to understand why you have to do karate, why you have to use your body and train in self-defense in a theological seminary, why you went out fundraising, even during the vacations, and why you are doing witnessing at the same time. Even one of these is difficult, but you are doing all three in one time. May be it becomes a bit clearer now why you are doing this.

This will be invaluable material one day in the future, once you go out into the field and start doing something, al you are doing here will be a qualification. This is what Father made sure when he drove all the Blessed couples out and gathered them together, husband and wife, leaving the children behind, of course. They all came and Father talked. This is the situation we are facing now. Which would you do, just sit tight and do nothing, or since we all are doing this and we all the wives, even leaving husbands and children behind, go out and once more start launching a great big movement?

Father made a point to which all gave in; all went along enthusiastically: even though we give up our children and wives, all husbands, we will have to launch an activity to make America live once more. This is far more important than trying to linger on in our uncertain families. This was the conclusion. When this plan is genuine and we are actually doing it, do you think such working is actually necessary for America?

If you see this as necessary, so will many students on the campuses. If you see it, many professors and ministers will, just as well, and they will begin to do the same thing, too. Do you understand what Father is bringing up now? In other words, we will attack in all directions. No area will be uncovered. Attack, let us say, against the invisible evil. Yesterday, Father gave the go ahead to recruit 400 professors out of all the professors. Michael Warder is doing it. He is actually handpicking, selecting the most famous professors on the United States colleges. He has more than 400, a few thousand (2000 - 3000) to choose from the best names.

The best ones are being pulled out to be the chairmen of the different committees, and they will use their name in inviting still many more professors to come and to listen to us. Visualize that day, which will come only too soon, when you will have to go out to the States and you will speak to many political leaders, local leaders, leaders of all walks of life about your idea, our ideology. You will have to give lectures to so many professors and presidents of colleges on what is to come, what it is all about, Christendom … How much you have to prepare here, while still in school, to talk to them effectively. So, shouldn’t we really one day go up and be able to meet so many people and talk to them? [Yes!] And, before you can do that, shouldn’t you get involved in these varied fields of activities while you are in school? Surely, you recognize that.

Sometimes, this will involve us in a tight or even dangerous situation. But, since it is dangerous, will we say, ‘Oh, we won’t do it?’ Certainly, that is one thing we won’t do. Instead, we will jump into any impossible situation, as long as we have to do it, we have to do it. The only thing is, we have to think how to survive it. Do you understand? If you try to survive some of the critical conditions, what hard training you should not undergo. One thing you can rest assured of, is that in the long run, communists will start using violence on you; remember this iron rule. Until that time, they may try everything else, but at the end, communists will come with the muscle power, period. They will. Do you understand? Without going through that last situation and winning over it, there is actually no way for you to save America; in one word, you cannot. May be, after saving America we can go into sort of a decent way of teaching people, such as religion…

We will have to save the world first, and then teach them religion to make them live again. If you perfect their religion now and practice perfected religion, what good will it do, when everybody dies, becoming a prey to communism? When we lose everything, what would you do with religion? Do you understand? We have to know… that we are the… banner-bearers in a great big march, in a great big line, column, and we will have to be the pioneers in the very front. Then, there will be more wind coming against us, even storms coming against us, even bullets. Yet, when we go in faith, strongly, heaven will protect us.

There may be a criteria set for you, that before you graduate, you will have to achieve a certain efficiency in soccer. When you kick the ball, you will have to be able to kick the ball and put it into the goal post, making a few points to meet that standard. And in basketball, in ten throws, you would have to score eight or nine. There will be a standard imposed on you.

You will even have a chance to learn machine shop operations, to become familiar with all the machines. You will certainly have that. Whenever you go to different situations you have to have some common language to speak. You have to show in some way that you too have a common experience. They will listen to you far better. Many be that is the only way they will ever listen to you, after all the things people did in the past, teaching them in an irresponsible way. Do you understand, or are you still dubious?

So, should we learn karate, or not? [Yes!] Attaining efficiency in karate is a more urgent task than selecting your own ideal mate. For a woman, it is an earlier step to be achieved than finding a better husband. Those things can wait. There are steps. The first step is your own fulfillment. You have to prepare yourself first, before you prepare yourself for others. So, if there is one who doesn’t want to learn karate, you have to give him a little jab, a little kick. If somebody is somehow lenient in going through karate, you have somehow give him a stimulus. Without being prepared to do that, what is the whole purpose of your joining the Barrytown seminary?

Imagine, America is an industrial country, but soon it will perish. Soon it will be unable to survive competition without what Father has been talking about to you now, without reviving all that spirit and these organizations. Imagine, who will commit himself totally, his whole life, youth and old age and everything, dedicating all he has got, even trying to figure out how to save America, whereas nobody in America is thinking about that. When Americans will learn this for the first time, they will genuinely feel grateful to Father. They don’t know yet, so they are not grateful.

This is not empty talk, not even … talk; this is a talk about a goal we have already achieved. So, Father has already talked substantially to people, to the whole leadership in the labor field, even some of the political field, understand what Father is doing. Father has already, directly or indirectly, been in touch with the highest leadership in the FBI, the CIA, the Defense Department, and the State Department. They are the first ones to recognize the meaning of Father and what he is doing for America now… not for America… In fact, it is almost an instinct for Americans to try figuring out a person. They tried to figure out Father; they thought they figured him out. But, within a few weeks it becomes obsolete. Then they figure out again, but they are not totally confident. The third time, they are way off, they are further away than the first time. Then they conclude that Rev. Moon is a riddle, a man they can never figure out.

What about you? Can you figure Father out? Father is not too be figured out. We have twelve fishing businesses, legitimate companies. Most of them, Father doesn’t even know their names. When Father heard them for the first time, he was surprised. When did they… In the south sea and Alaska, even a few on the West coast, on the East coast, too. Father only knew three or four. Even in Brazil, a substantial one, a big one is on the way. Many of these [developed] while Father was unaware of it. Again, returning to the original topic, you are the ones who will have to talk to the people in … [on the Hill] … explaining to them what you are standing for and what Father - Rev. Moons has been teaching you to do in America. The result will be very obvious. If you genuinely follow this real way, then, whether you like it or not, in ten or twenty years, the people will come to you and they will say to you, ‘you are the only one worthy of becoming the president. There is no other person.’ They will push you to become the president. Do you understand? Really?

There is no area you don’t know of clearly. The labor unions, you know how they are composed and what their status is, you know what the ideal one is. As for schools, you know what the status quo of the school is, and you know how to correct that. You know everything about what you will do.

When this plan is substantially under way, if you really go down without compromise and start doing it, then there will be a lot of people who get excited against Father, as you can well imagine. At that time, Father should not be seen in America. Father will have to simply be absent from America and watch over America from a long distance.

When each one of these things is implemented, like labor union things, when CARP activities are well under way and all the hidden organizations of communism are unearthed, there will be more and more people who will hate Rev. Moon, even temporarily. Do you understand? The Mafia, prostitution people… Can you imagine that a person may take a 170 dollars and kill another person, any time… So you must understand; Father talked rather simply and straightforwardly, but in essence, even dangerous this is in America, even thinking about it, [much more] successfully doing it. They see that too. Do you understand? If there was an alternative, Father would not do it, of course. The first thing is to make America…

If you try to understand Father, yet you cannot fully, imagine ten or fifteen years ago when Father first came here and predicted all things which you are experiencing now in America. Father said, ‘America will become this and this.’ American people thought that someone came and told them a story, or a fable. They thought, not America! America will go on like now forever and ever. They tried, but they could not understand. Now, less than ten years later, they being to understand that what Father said is so painfully true. In five, or even two more years, America will really be in a more difficult situation, and then, they will understand that, unless somebody does something…

You are all Americans, aren’t you. What about Rev. Moon himself? He is a Korean. Why … should a Korean come to America - they didn’t even welcome him - and not to do something simple, but something even Americans haven’t been thinking about, such an extremely difficult work, why would a Korea do that? Except for God, how can one ever thinking of doing it? In a worldly sense, how can you do such a ridiculous thing, coming here with such a great pain, bringing your own heard earned money and get all sorts of persecution, just like in a savage country, and still go on, working for the sake of that country? If you really understood, you couldn’t do it, you would have given up long ago and reported to God, ‘God, this isn’t worth it,’ and…

So long as there are some areas where God would say to you, within this range, try. If somebody gives you a tangible go ahead, how fortunate you are; Father had no go ahead from anybody. Father figured out what God had to do, so Father did it. You are an American, too, aren’t you? You are regular… So, since you are aware, for whom is it easier to do the same work in this country, for Father or for you? For you,

because nobody will persecute you half as much as they will persecute Father. … Father wanted to teach you straight, and Father even wanted to teach you how to do it. This is in preparation of this. This is why went through so much pain in the past. That is why you also went out in the Christmas time, without going home on vacation like everybody else, you went fundraising in a terrible snow, and witnessing. Don’t ever [doubt] that Father understand everything about your circumstances, how difficult it would be for you to go out fundraising, how difficult it is to refuse going back to your own home at Christmas time, how people would persecute Father because of that; Father understands everything, more than you.

Father insisted on you, Father just drove you out ruthlessly, because Father knew that, if you did it, which you did, this would serve as an invaluable material for the future, when you go out to talk to the people. In moving the American people, in starting a new movement, you cannot speak out about ideals. Who would listen to you, unless you did it through your own behavior. That, for the first time, would give you credibility. If you were going to convert that into money, the experience you have already acquired and the experience you will continue to acquire, you can’t figure it out. Can you buy that kind of experience in that situation, even for millions of dollars. Could you buy that experience for ten million dollars? [No].

When you go back to each state and really begin your regular activities there, for the first time, then the atmosphere will get much brighter than those times you had before. Then, you will think back [and remember that] before you went to that state, trying to make a foundation, you confronted certain policemen, and these policemen persecuted you in a certain way… When you testify to that in front of the people… That policeman is still there, serving in the active force. When you just tell them how terribly he persecuted you, while you were trying to raise funds and pursued witnessing, the heart of the people will start boiling. It will serve as the biggest stimulant to stimulate the people. Otherwise, people can never be stimulated. Do you understand?

So, while we are learning karate, it is difficult. Any discipline is difficult, including the academic disciplines. American thought that the physical disciplines were secondary, but … Once you did it under persecution, then they will remember you and then you will get so much better… Father is working here now in Barrytown, thinking that he will, one day, think back of those roads Father has been driving on back and forth on in the last five years, at the time of reckon… …ing this terrain… unerasable memories, almost eternally, Father feels that now. Even now, while Father is driving up here, one day there will be a procession, a great big column of people, trying to thread Father’s own path, this time with naked feet. Don’t you think that someday they will, to understand Father’s path?

There will be one day when the land price of this area of red Hook will be soaring high up. As a historical meaning, don’t you ever think about that? As long as America revives once more, Red Hook will be the center of America, in the historical sense. Imagine a man, who used to be one of you and will come back, in ten or twenty years from now on and try to walk through Red Hook, thinking this is where things became so rough that I had to drop away. How painful he will feel ten or twenty years later, when everyone will cherish him for what he did twenty years ago? And that is not enough. What about you? Your conscience will be so much clearer at that time; how much regret will you feel towards one time comrades of yours, one time classmates. Because you did not care enough for them, they had to drop away, leaving an eternal scar in history.

Therefore, the best sense of responsibility is the common sense of responsibility. It is not an individual sense of responsibility that works, but a sense of common responsibility, if you want to call it that way. Do you understand? You are given … level the ground up in a way. Anybody could go in and say, that ground is not level. And Father told you to do it; if you did it on your own, still it would be bad as it is, but let alone when Father tells you to level that ground, it should be perfectly level. You think you can get away with it, but conscience…

When you make an athletic field, you must really make the best one in America, even small size. So, before Father came to Barrytown this morning, he thought, ‘this time, now that the snow has melted away, I will go and see the pond. Father will see how you made up with the pond. Did you make the pond in such a way that people really admire the kind of pond you made during that impossible situation, making this pond on top of your difficult situation? Did you make the pond that good for later people to appreciate? Have you ever thought of the image of that pond a hundred years from now on? Did you visualize the people who will be standing around that pond and think of what they will say about it? If the carp are still living at that time, people will gladly pay hundred thousand dollars or even millions of dollars for these carps.

The people of the next generations, won’t they feel like jumping into the river and getting all full of mud, still wanting to catch one fish, just like their spiritual ancestors did and Father himself did, standing watching… So, when we do think, we have to once in a while visualize things ten years from now one, twenty years from now on. Even at that time, the people will talk about it, ‘well, catching the fish was very cold rough, but so and so caught most fish; I cannot forget him, he caught lots of fish and put it into his pocket.’ They will talk about it and you certainly would like to be remembered. Those are heroes.

Father will go to spirit world first, judged by his age. Most of you will outlive Father in a physical sense. So you will come back later than Father’s visits here. Then, how many more deep feelings will you have, twenty to thirty years from now. You must think back on these days, when Father told you a thing to do and you really did it, even at the risk of your life you did it. If that memory remains with you ten or twenty years from now, how many deep sensations will keep raising within your heart? If you are trying to evade things instead, trying not to get involved in hard work, how much of a source of regret it will be for you. ‘At that time, I did not know a thing, but now, I wish I had known then what I know now.’ The Hudson River will remember you with a bad memory, instead of a good, undetachable memory. You just will not want to come back to the Hudson River, may be …

We are just projecting ourselves into the future. We are not dreaming about the future. We are just thinking what we are certain to feel in ten years. What is your opinion. Do you think that ten years later that day may come or may not come, or that it will be certain to come? [It will certainly come!] Because that is the only way of our survival. …

… Think about ten, twenty years from now on, once in a while; but in between, we should dedicate everything to [our work] here, put everything we have … Father doesn’t think so much about the opposition around here. In fact, Father is encouraged by that. If they oppose you for no justified reason… If the whole people come and go against you and you have to stop classes and come out to cope with the demonstration teams, how much better it will be, how many memories it will create. But if you have to keep postponing… so that actually you will fall behind your schedule for half a year, because you have to cope with the opposition of the entire Red Hook area, how much more honorable it will be in the future. Do you understand?

One thing we are doing, is that we are working for the future. We are not working and doing things for the present time. Not like the people, not like everybody else in the world. We work for the future. Why then does Father come to Barrytown once in a while, rushing in like the wind and rushing out like the wind? Why would Father do that? Every so often.. Because, when Father comes here, he has a clear idea about what kind of people he is nurturing here in Barrytown. So Father would like to give you one more word about the future, about how to spend your school days… Father would like to give you one more scene for you to remember, one more advice, that is why he comes back and forth very day.

Father cannot do this without meeting you face to face. Father is busy, he cannot spend all the time doing that day after day… So, you can make all your plans here, you can just write down what to do and keep doing it, doing it deeply and not in a shallow way. Don’t do it with reservations, give everything you have. Like all other things Father talked to you about in the past, again, don’t forget today’s talk, because this should serve you as a real memory that should stay for the rest of your life. Why you are trained this way here, what you will be expected to do once you go out with that degree, why we do that - because we have to let America live, we must revive America, we must save America. Why America? Because without America, the world will, not live. So, America living means the same thing as the world living.

And we can also think back, how god spent his 200 years in America. If God tries to make another foundation in other countries, how much more he will have to work, another 200 years… Nobody, including God, will have that kind of time, investing 200 more years to nurture one country such as America. We all know the result of that 200 years of unreserved Blessing; God did not reserve any drop of it. Everything God was to give, he gave to America. We have the result of that. Do you understand?

Who recognizes Father? Who gives Father real appreciation and tries to reward Father for that? Not even America would like to do that. So, Father, without anyone around him understanding, keeps on doing at the cost of everything he owns. Why? Because God is … Father had to invest tens of years before one or two people started appearing and began to understand Father’s situation, like you now, and tried to be grateful to Father and prayed about Father - even that. So, likewise for you: nobody will understand you, perhaps ten years from now on. You keep on doing it, being certain that some time, someday, may be ten years from now on, the people will fully appreciate what you do now. Without that faith, we cannot do a thing. We cannot go on for one year. It is simple enough, you keep on doing it, and soon enough, everyone will recognize you, everyone will understand what you have been doing, and at that time you will become an irreplaceable, indispensable person. Do you understand?

Father has a feeling that even when he goes away to other countries and observes America, there will be a time when Americans will come to Father, or some country will come to Father and try to bring him back to America. When we say ‘Americans,’ Father doesn’t mean all Americans yet, he means you, since you are Americans, may be you are the ones to understand first and then you will be the ones to come and bring Father back to America when Father leaves from here. Do you understand?

But, once you establish yourselves to be influential over America, that day will automatically come. Let us be frank about that. Compare yourselves as individuals to today’s president Carter. Is there anybody

here who is worse than Carter, i.e. inferior to Carter? Those who feel that, strictly speaking, they are somewhat better than Carter, superior to him, raise your hands! In terms of intelligence… What about Nixon? Father doesn’t think any higher of Nixon than of Mr. Carter. When Father first saw Nixon, he thought ‘how can he ever become president?’ Phrenology tells him all … things in him. So, certainly you are better than Nixon if you are better than Carter.

When Father talked about educating congressmen and senators within a few years to come, Father meant every word of it. It was very sane, very practical, very real; never symbolic or anything like that as some of you may think now. You honestly, really will talk to congressmen and senators, and you will have to teach them the things they never thought of.

Would you then do everything Father tells you to do now? Father told you to learn karate with the utmost dedication. Put everything you have into it. Also, some day Father might teach you how to hunt; Father would like to each you hunting some day and take you up to hunting. If somebody asks, ‘Rev. Moon, why do you have to do everything you do now?’ the answer is: if somebody doesn’t do that, if Rev. Moon doesn’t do that, then God will be losing. God will perish. In other words, God will be a losing God, he won’t be a winning God. Can you imagine God loosing? Since God cannot loose, Father must do this. So do we. We must do it, because Father makes us do it. As Father told us about communism, as a general statement, evil, when they have tried everything and they are cornered, they will surely use weapons and violence. Rest assured, there is no other way. Since we know, how can we not prepare for it? It is not that we use it occasionally. No. As long as we are prepared, it will serve the purpose. So, when we learn karate, we probably won’t use it at all. We hope that we won’t, at all. But, when worst come to worst, that will be our last measure of defense. We have to make sure that we can win over the worst, that we get prepared for the worst, to protect the country from this evil, and eventually protect God from evil. This is why we are learning karate, in preparation for the worst that may come.

You don’t have classes today? [No!] So, what Father told you this afternoon must really have broadened your sight, and it should remain with you for the rest of your school days and your life. This may help you understand why Father is has reservations in picking women for the school, because every word Father said, Father means it: the violence and the actual words he has to do, i.e. the preparation for violence. How can women do as good a job as men? They stand only half the chance. This is what Father feels. This is a war, it is genuinely war. But isn’t this some war we have to fight? We have to prepare to figh`t it. Let’s say, if we don’t fight, then who will have to fight? Our children will have to fight. Is there any way getting around that?

So, we cannot for the time… may be that time is too late… this is why we do it, hoping that our children won’t have to do it - hoping to guarantee that our children won’t do it. Those who understand, raise your hands! Father has been talking about sisters. Now that you are here, you might as well become a part of men. Father feels [that women can act as] a catalyst, as a standard-provider. If one of you women, the weaker ones, really does her real best and everybody recognizes that, that will make many strong men ashamed and that will boost their standard up. Father would like to have some women here that way. [Father laughs]. So, Father feels that women are also necessary.

Think about it. Close your eyes and think about the future of America. If you have some sense, you can picture things, how America is today and how it will be in the future. Like the British labor union problems, it was there. The communists worked a long time for that to occur. America will be the same as them, even worse. Labor unions just deadlock… … In the New Yorker, everything is happening, that is due to the labor unions. They are always a source of trouble. Even… like a layman, towards a certain direction, if you hire a laborer, skilled or unskilled, even a technician who is in a labor union, if you hire him, they take so much time doing their work. They have coffee breaks, they come late and they go out early. Also, their working speed is slow, and there is nothing you can do about it. It takes seven times less time to do the same work by yourself, if you know how to do it. Can you believe that? No exaggeration. They figure about seven times. And they constantly want higher wages. How can a country continue like that. They might as well not do the work at all. So, they are not doing any work and they are going down and down.

If fact, Father feels he is the only one who is responsible about America now. Responsibility: absent, completely absent. Nobody is thinking about America’s future. So, Father has to do it. Father figures out that he has to take care of the campuses, he has the labor union problem and the Christian problem. Then, how is he going to do it? Well, Father cannot do it himself, as a Korean and as an individual. Father has to have somebody do it. Who would that somebody be? You, the Barrytown students. Father is training and disciplining you with that perspective.

Father likes Barrytown. Barrytown apparently likes Father, too.

Father says that, if Mr. Seuk was sitting here, Father would give him a big shakeup, to let you do the work harder and pushing you harder than he has been on you. Mr. _____ is not necessarily an example of zeal towards you. He is a good person, too. That means, he is somehow not going hard enough. To achieve a certain standard, he is a slow mover, he is no way a fast mover. So, if he pushes you, that is nothing. And if gets after you, that means you are worse than he is. Actually, you are only worthy of the trash can. [General laughter] If someone blames somebody, that somebody is worse than he - you are the trash can candidate.

Many of you must blame David Kim deeply inside of you. He is too old, he is not as young as he should be, not pushing us hard enough. You have to blame him inside. You may have to demand a stronger leadership from him. That means you have to push further, the stronger, the better. That means, the faster America will recover. It depends on us. Do you understand? [Yes!] So, Father says, at this instant, you go right back to your studies and resume your schedule, and Father will go around the campus. 1. After True Father talked about women not going on to get their PhD degrees a few women went to Father and told him they wanted to get their PhD degrees. Father asked if they were willing to postpone Blessing until they finished their degrees. They all said, “Yes.” So Father sent them on to get their PhD degrees.
