You may have heard of me in recent years. Whether it was good or bad, for the next five minutes I am asking you to forget everything you have heard — and read this letter.

The reason I am writing to you is that I have an important message to share, one that could be of vital interest to you.

Recently I received a most heartwarming letter from Mr . Mark Barry, a young American who lives i n New York . He said:

“After learning the revelation which you received from God, my whole outlook on life has changed . Not only have I discovered who God is and who I am, but I ’ ve also come to be able to love other people as never before. Thank you , Reverend Moon . “

My dear friend, I THANK GOD , TOO. For there are hundreds of thousands of people around the world who share these sentiments . As they learn about the revelation I received, wonderful things happen to them. Even miracles occur. Young people overcome chronic drug problems; suffering from mental illness is cleansed ; many physical healings take place.

Moreover, individuals find fresh hope and purpose in life . Families di scover new ways to be united in love. And the barriers between races and nationalities disappear as people find· true brotherhood in the family of God. Indeed, genuine concern and love for one ’ s fellow man become a way of life.

Dear friend, you too are entitled to know the joy and happiness these people have found . That is why I am writing this letter to you .

I do not claim that I work wonders , but I believe that nothing is impossible with the power of God . All that is needed is a new understanding of God, a new truth , a new revelation. And this new revelation now has come . It can be yours! (over)

Today no one is without problems. Individuals, families, nations and the world are trying desperately to solve their problems. Yet there seems to be no solution in sight. Many grieve in hopelessness. Last year alone an estimated 38,000 fine Americans took their lives.

People try everything but God to solve their problems. However, knowing God is the only solution. God has a definite plan for the world and a definite way of life for us to live. And the revelation I received is the best way to know Him. That’s why it’s so important for you to find out about this new truth.

Dear friend, my experience of knowing God began in a very humble way when I was 16 years old. As a boy I had agonized over many fundamental questions of life such as:

Who am I? Where am I from? What is the purpose of life? Is there life after death? Is there a God? Is He almighty or helpless? If He is almighty, why doesn’t He take care of the world? Why is there so much suffering on earth?

For the next nine years I dwelt constantly in the presence of Jesus and almighty God. I journeyed into the spirit world many times. Step by step, God revealed incredible truth to me. It was like a sunrise after a long dark night. In this truth I could see the dawn of a glorious new civilization.

Although based on the Bible, this extraordinary revelation is far more than a Judeo-Christian teaching . It has the capacity and power to unite and embrace all religions.

The revelation I received is known today as the Divine Principle, and I was instructed to teach it in every corner of the earth.

First I began to teach in Communist North Korea, where I was persecuted by both Christians and Communists. I was thrown into jail by the Communists and spent nearly three years in a concentration camp. It was designed to slowly kill a person.

Only with the power of God did I survive. The day before I was to be executed, the U.N. forces fighting in the Korean War liberated me and I fled to freedom in South Korea.

In 1954 I formally founded the Unification Church in Seoul, Korea and four years later brought the message to Japan. In the short span of 25 years the movement has spread to 127 nations in all six continents. Today the Divine Principle is taught in all languages.

God spoke to me again in 1971, telling me urgently to go to America where millions were awaiting His new revelation. God said I must proclaim this message in this country, for America had been chosen as the BRIDGE through which to reach the people of the entire world .

In only seven years since then I have spoken in all 50 states, touching the lives of millions of Americans, and Unification Church centers have been established from Maine to Hawaii.

On my journey through this land I have been impressed again and again with the greatness of America’s spiritual heritage and material achievements. Today, however, I see this great nation beset by grave problems . Millions of homes are broken. Youth have become confused and restless. Crime and violence are rampant.

My heart is pained by this. For the sake of God, who loves America so much, I am determined to do my best to help this nation. I know the new revelation I received will give America a new vision and lift her to new heights of greatness.

Some of my critics say I brainwash people, and I am very amused at such statements. While speaking in 1975 before a group of congressmen on Capitol Hill I said:

“Let me ask you a question. Are you Americans so foolish and dumb as to be brainwashed by this Korean? I don’t think so.”

After my speech one congressman came to me and shook my hand . He said, “Reverend Moon, I never expected such a perfect answer.” And recently, in 1978, the Justice Department concluded that, “It has been our experience that members of these religious sects are apparently competent, consenting adults.”

As I said, the work I have done is not by my own power but by the power of God. The new joy and vitality people feel is a result of EXPERIENCING THE SPIRIT OF GOD.

Dear friend, if you are touched and ignited by the truth of God, you can no longer just pursue ordinary goals in life. The world becomes your stage. You are involved in helping others and fighting injustice. As a God-inspired person, you condenm war but you wage another kind of war, one against the three archenemies of mankind — poverty, disease and ignorance.

Members of the Unification Church know deep inside that each person is a precious child of God. They look at each other as true brothers and sisters beyond the color of skin. They realize that God’s family exists in “living color.”
