In June 1972 it was discovered that a clandestine commissioned support President Richard nixon ‘s re-election had attempted to wiretap the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the watergate office complex in Washington, DC.

Due to this scandal, True Parents worried that

Communism would take over the United States.

In order to return to God we need forgiveness, and True Father told the ~AAerican people that in order to receive forgiveness they l1ave to forgive. In the Watergate Statement True Fatl1er was declaring tl1at we should forgive. If we cannot forgive tl1e sins of otl1ers, we cannot be forgiven.

At this time, many people criticized the

unificationists that supporting Nixon. Due to this, Unificationists’ movement was recognized as the political movement.

However, True Father never stopping

the Watergate statement because he can

feel the God’s Will in the US.
