LEADER’S ADDRESS - Meeting of HSA-UWC Members and Guests Oklahoma City Center, March 1, 1965 (Translated by Mrs. Wonpok Choi)
I know that you have been waiting for me so long, and I regret that I could not come as you expected. You have been abiding in my heart, and we have felt so close to one another, but it actually took me many years to come to you. In God’s will, I intended to come, but it is not as simple as one may think. I had to go through a certain course of indemnity in order to establish the way for the world. This made me linger in Korea. Our dream has now been realized, and since I came here I have been feeling joy and happiness to see how you have accom- plished and prepared the way for the Lord. When I first saw American members I felt pity and sympathy with them, to think that the spiri- tual wilderness of America is in your hands. It is too much of a responsibility to be laid upon your shoulders. Until now, I have been seeing you in my thoughts, but now I see you struggling coura- geously and fighting against Satan as God wills. You are the first ones to know the Divine Will, the Divine Principle, in this land. So I want you to be courageous and fight against Saran from now on.
If I am to put a title to my speech, it will be, “Let us Follow the Will of God.”
When we look back to the days of Noah, God first told him everything to do. But later on, at the last moment, He left him to do the 5% on his own. In Abraham’s case, too, until he had finished his offer- ing, until he had set up the offerings on the altar, God led him precisely to do things as He wished. Later on, He left him alone. After having blessed him, God led Jacob in the light of His divine will. But later on, Jacob had to accomplish his own three-day course. Moses also had to go through this type of course. The Israelites, the chosen nation which was to welcome the Messiah, was also in God’s will. They were led by God so precisely, but they were also left alone at the last moment. Our forefathers have all had the responsi- bility to win through, until the last moment when even God deserted them. They have been so courageous, putting all their sincerity and love toward God, and they have accomplished all in their power. The long 120 years of Noah’s days, Abraham’s lonely journey after leaving his beloved land, and Jacob’s course following after God’s will, Moses’ course in leading the Israelites into the blessed land of Ca- naan, all were just the same. The 4,000 years of the Israelites’ course was the same. The Israelites did their best to follow God’s will. But we know the history of their failure at the very last moment.
We have to know that Adam and Eve fell at the last degree of the Growth Stage. This is not within the limit of God’s domination. Even though God was willing to help his beloved ones, He had to desert them and leave them alone to fight against Satan all by themselves.
Ever since Adam’s fall, God has been struggling hard with sorrow and pain in His heart, but no one really knew of His pain and sorrow. 0 There has not been a moment in which He did not long to live in happi- ness and joy with His own children, after having accomplished all His will and restoring His children into His bosom.
God has been seeking one soul upon the basis and the ground which all our forefathers have laid. In order to ease the heart, ease the blood of the martyrs and forefathers, on the ground of their accomplishment God could send Jesus Christ to earth after 4,000 years. He came to the world in the place of God, in order to realize His will, and to win over Satan, the chronic enemy in our history. If ttie Israelites had been so open-minded as to accept anything he did or said, he would have given them all that he had. He would not have left the 50, which has given him such amazing mystery and left so many unsolved riddles. If the chosen nation of that day had only followed him with all the sincerity of their hearts, they would have been able to accomplish 0 the whole mission. They would have been helpful to Jesus so that he could have accomplished his whole mission without leaving any 5%. All they had to do was to follow him and do what they were told by him. his will was to open the way for the people to go to meet God without leaving any 50 of the maze, which means a black, dark course. by following his will would have meant that all God’s will would have been accomplished. He would not have left any condition for man to have to face before Satan. If it had been so, the chosen people could have followed Jesus, and that would have been the end of the course of indemnity. From then on, we would have only to follow Jesus Christ and all God’s will would have been accomplished. We could have lived in His kingdom. After having accomplished his will by following him, we just had to live according to his will, which really would have been the kingdom accomplished on earth. Jesus would have been the central figure, the nuclear being to fight against Satan and to rea- lize the Kingdom of God.
Lack of belief and faith in him compelled us to go through 2,000 more years of struggle with Satan. It has been a more difficult way than that which the Israelites had to go through. I say this because, dur- ing the days of Jesus, they just had to follow his instructions. They saw him face to face, so it was much easier for them to follow him. But now the providence is a spiritual one, and we have to believe in him, pray to him, and get instruction from him spiritually. That makes our course more difficult than theirs. God wanted to help us, but He could do it only spiritually. He could not help us physically, face to face in the flesh.
In other words, in his own days Jesus wanted the people to follow him, follow his instructions which he so precisely gave. them. Because of the Israelites’ failure, he has been struggling since his death to give them instructions spiritually. His heart has ached and he has been so sorrowful. There is a vast gulf and gap between him and us. That is why he is praying for us at the right of the throne, wishing that we should accomplish his mission on earth. He is giving instruc- tions, feeling as though he is giving them to blind, deaf and dumb people. In order to bridge the gap between the spiritual world and the physical world, he has been struggling so hard until now, encour- aging people to follow his will by revelations and spiritual experi- ences. He promised to united the spiritual world and the physical world in the day of the Second Advent. He will come to lead and in- struct the people to the final goal, which he said was achievable. When he comes again, he should accomplish the mission to unite the spiritual and physical worlds, and to lead all the people of the world to the final goal of victory.
Because it is His third attempt, His final attempt, God will be with us on our side. It is the Lord of the Second Advent who came for this mission, to unite into one the spiritual world and the physical world, heaven and earth. If the Lord of the Second Advent appears, he will walk on the foundation Jesus laid spiritually, and on this foundation he will work the physical side of his mission. Before that, he has to unite the spiritual world. Paradise must be united into heaven. All societies and all levels of the spirit world must be united. Jesus had to relay his mission to the Lord of the Second Ad- vent, leaving the baton to him. The Lord has to unite the spirit world and then fight on this earth, conquering Satan and calling all his children to his bosom.
Until now, there was 50 of the mission of the holy saints which was unaccomplished. But the Lord of the Second Advent will accomplish it by uniting the spiritual and physical worlds. This is the way the Lord of the Second Advent must do, in order to accomplish the unaccomplished mission which Jesus left undone. Such a burden is laid upon the shoulders of the Lord that he cannot tread the plain way, the smooth and paved way. He has to destroy, to annhilate all the barriers which were built because of the separation. But now, after having united the whole, he will lead the people of the whole world to the final Kingdom of Heaven.
It is the mission of our movement, of the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, and it is also my mission to accomplish this work. Based on the Principle of Restoration, I had to lead all the people in the spirit world to accomplish their mis- sion by fulfilling the 5% they left undone. Then, in this physical world, I must do the same thing - help people accomplish their 50
i of the mission, then lead them to the goal. After I have accomplished these missions on an ii.dividual, family, and national levels, if I
LA 3/1/65 3 accomplish that far, then the people of the world have just to follow my will. They just have to go the paved, smooth way, by following me. From now on, it is your mission -’o well as mine to annihilate the 50 darkness. In order to do thdt, tie huve to do God’s will. We have to clear away Cod’s resentnent by annihilating the 50, and by just having people follow the Lord to accomplish the whole mission. That is on our shoulders. You must realize. Korea should do the same, and Amer- ica should do the same. The movement will spread from the best few nuclear members who have first turned attentive ears to our Divine Principle. By spreading the Divine Principle to as many countries as possible, to spread it world-wide, we can set up the ground to which our ancestors in the spirit world can descend and help accomplish the mission. Centered upon you, the mission of the ancestors in the spirit world can be accomplished, as well as yours in the physical world, To- gether with the missions of our offspring s we are to open their way. Since I have laid the foundation, from now on you can accomplish the mission of you:, ancestors and accomplish your own mission, and help accomplish the mission of ycur offspring
So you, each one of you even though you are a single individual, it is so important that your ancestors in the spirit world lay hope on you. The whole population of the world will lay hope on you. Your off- spring will call you the blessed ancestors who have opened their way to the kingdom. You will be the miniature form of our Lord. You will be a leader of a certain group of which you are the center. You will be the center of your nation, You, being such a central figure after the pattern of the Master, your ancestors and your neighbors and the people around you and your friends will hope and wish that you will do your best. They are applauding you when you do well, and they are so anxious to help you to do your best,
Those in the spirit world who have lived their lives on earth and been martyred for the will of God are nothing compared to people on earth. You are more important than they. Beyond question, you are more im- portant than tJoah or any other ancestor whom you can recall.
It is our precious gift which we enjoy by learning the Divine Principle that we know whether our ancestors lived in accordance with or against God’s will. We know precisely the way to go, how to walk in the light of God. We know the heart of God, and we know what God’s enemy as well as our ancestors’ enemy has been, Because I have laid such a foundation, I have revealed and brought into life the whole dispensa- tion which God intended to accomplish, I stand here on earth in place of my Father. You are my Family under Him, and under me. So you may call me ‘Father’ and I may call you ‘children,’ In that Holy Family tie, we can restore the kingdom of God for which we have been homesick so long. If you only struggle, your eyes set on your Father only, on me as your Master, the way to the kingdom will be wide open ahead of you. I might not be too bold to say that it is the desire of God, our Father, and it is the desire of me myself, and it is the desire of the people of the whole world, and it is going to be the desire of your posterity, too.
One thing I want you to realize is that you have almost unconsciously gone through the way of paying indemnity of certain amount, From now on you have just to follow me. The only thing that is left for you to do is to really appreciate and be grateful to your ancestors who have paved the way. (Of course, this is not to speak of God, our Father, and to our Master who has still so many things to accomplish and so hard a way ahead of him,) You have to be grateful to the whole world in which there are so many people of all religions who are still going their way of indemnity in order to pay the price in place of you. When I say to be grateful, I don’t mean that you should be grate- ful in happiness. You have to be grateful in hardships and difficul- ties. You should be courageous to follow my way. If my way is thorny, yours will be thorny. But I will go the way, and you will follow me. If I tread upon the thorns, the way you follow will be smoother. It is easy to be grateful when we are placed in a situation which is more than we expected. It is very important for you to be grateful, how- ever low your situation may be,
If I were you, I would choose the lowest position, because the lower you go, you will be able to conquer the regon in which you have set
your foot. If you have set a standard in that way, God, the whole spirit world, this physical world, and your offspring will applaud you, Because L know thi’s principle, I have never complained to God or to anyone else when I stood in the bwest situation. We have to be able to appreciate even though we may be in the dungeon of hell, so that the hell itself will turn into heaven because heaven is in our hearts. The more such people increase in numbers, the smoother the way to salvation will be, and the goal will be accomplished sconer than we expect.
In order to destroy the barriers, the regional boundaries, man has made many obstacles. In order to annihilate these, God has been strong. We have to add our efforts to His, and we will be able to achieve the goal. Since Jesus knew all this, he could pray at Ges- themane, “Not my will but Thine be done,” and peacefully die upon the cross. It is my mission to lead you to be that kind of person- ality. If it is not in your power, if it is beyond your reach, you must stand in back of others and at least have the intention and the hope that our Master’s and God’s will may be accomplished. You should pray for His will, and try to help it be accomplished as soon as pos- sible.
As you well know, I am a physical being, limited in flesh. I cannot face every one of the three billion people of the world. Therefore, there should be many like you who will go throughout the whole world, shouldering and sharing my mission. God laid the foundation on which Jesus did his mission. But on the whole ground, I am working and doing my mission. You have just to follow me, and you have to share my mission. That’s all. You are most lucky not to have to pay the 0 indemnity as I did. Be grateful! That’s all I can say to you. 3e grateful and have the heart which can feel the position of God. Feel as our Leader feels. If he is sorrowful, you must feel sorrowful. If he is glad and happy, you should be glad and happy. If you are so in accordance with his heart, you will be able to accomplish.
The time for involvement is set to a certain extent, and the people of God’s will, the chosen people, are.prepared. What is left to us is to spread this message to the whole world, after the pattern of our Master, by following him. In this country, in the U.r ted States, you should play the role, being the center of harmony in your family, the leader in your family, in your tribe, in your nation.
So, if I should put it in a word, you must fight your way in accor- dance with the will of God by following the way that God and I take. We should first know and feel and act in accordance with the Divine Will. That Will will never be nullified. What our ancestors have done was nullified and unknown, but what we do will remain and will be recognized by the whole world. If we are to die for this Will, it does not mean that our deeds have been nullified. The very things we have done in accordance with His Will will remain forever as a monument.
So I encourage you to be grateful, to feel God’s heart, and to follow His will under our Master’s instructions, and you will win the goal. 0
