Colorado Family Church: Winter Hike and New Adventure Experiences Ministry

I talked with Pastor Mike about starting an outdoor/adventure club. My idea is to organize and lead hikes, adventure experiences, and teach some outdoor/survival/personal fitness skills throughout the year. I was inspired thinking about my old Boy Scouts experiences. We had a lot of adventures that gave us confidence and an appreciation for the outdoors. While I do not have enough energy to create a Boy Scout troop, I would like to offer youth (and parents) in our community a sense of adventure that we need on a basic human level. My intent is to offer a challenge that’s still safe and in line with the abilities of the age group. I want to challenge both youth ages 7-9 and 10 and older, probably alternating between the two.
There’s a lot to be worked out. I’m only in the very beginning stages of creating ideas for the year, but I would like to include group camping, zip lining, and even white water rafting. If you have ideas, or would like to volunteer to help organize, please email me.
Our first experience will be a hike next Saturday (12/12) to Panorama Point in Corwina Park in the Denver area. I think we should meet at 12 noon, and everyone should bring their own lunch (for the trail). The hike I have in mind is 2-3 miles roundtrip. It may be cold, so bring layers. We can downgrade “remove layers” on the way as needed.
