WFWP South London, UK, organised a fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support

WFWP UK organised a fundraising event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Ladies of different nationalities, races and faith communities from South London participated. We served coffee, tea, homemade cakes and some savoury dishes provided by our members.

We watched a video of Macmillan activities showing the service and support the nurses are providing on a daily basis. We could also learn about the difference between Macmillan nurses and Marie Curie nurses which not many people know about.

We read a Testimony from one patient ‘Catherine.’ She was diagnosed with bowel cancer and on top of that had to deal with the financial implications of taking a year off work.

It was obviously very stressful for her but she explained how helpful the Macmillan nurses had been, especially also with financial matters, as they helped her to get an advance pension and some benefits.

This was the biggest help as she could continue paying her mortgage and bills.

She could even get a discount on her heating bills at the end of the year.
