Join us in a new series from our new Children’s Ministry Officer, Ala Z., reviewing books for the little ones. For the first one, she has chosen the children’s book, Light of Glory - see below!

Do you remember which book influenced you the most in your childhood? For me the most memorable were Pushkin’s folktales. No one told me about God, my Heavenly Parent, and His love for me when I was a child. It was only in my adolescent years in the early 90th, shortly after the Soviet Union was dissolved, that I could read my first book about God - a beautiful Bible for children with fascinating colourful pictures, given to me by my mother. My father instilled in me the love for reading, and it was my favourite pastime after school. I read many books, but this children’s Bible was not like any other book, it gave me an unusual sense of peace and delight. I treasure it even now and read from it to my children from time to time.

What about our children? What kind of books a blessed child cherishes the most? I want to think that it would be one about True Parents’ lives. Sadly, there are not that many available now, but I am hopeful that this will change soon.

One of the few available children’s books is “Light of Glory”. This book is a compilation of stories of significant events in the lives of our founders, Rev. and Dr. Moon, and the early years of the Unification Church. It is retold for children four to twelve years old, but I personally like to read it for myself.

These stories were authored by Linna Rapkins and other elder members of the Unification Church, providing a rich variety of styles and insights throughout the book. Original versions of these stories appeared in issues of “Blessing Quarterly” magazine, published by the HAS-UWC in the USA.

Message from the editor at the back of the book, “It is our sincere hope that as parents read these stories with their children, they will find inner renewal as they impart their faith to their young through simple storytelling”.

Light of Glory is a collection of fictional stories that follow the lives of True Parents, the Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and his wife , See this image Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, the founders of the Unification Church. Though these stories are not factual, they represent the spirit and experiences of True Parents in their youth.

The book is written in four parts with each part referring to True Parents by both their birth names-Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han-and by their respective titles, as they changed throughout their lives. The four parts are:

Part 1: The Early Years

Part 2: Sun Myung Moon Begins His Ministry

Part 3: The Early Days of the Unification Movement

Part 4: Our True Parents

True Father was called “Sun Myung Moon” or just “Mr. Moon” in his early years into adult hood and then later called “Teacher Moon” when he began his ministry in the 1950’s in North Korea. Unificationists have since called him “True Father” and his wife, “True Mother’’. Eventually, together they came to be known as True Parents.
