Global PeaceMakers camp in the Middle East

Dear SFP Friends: We’d like to share with you an opportunity to serve in the Middle East next month.

Build Peace Bridges in Israel and the Palestinian Authority From January 25th to February 8th, Service For Peace will hold a Global PeaceMakers (GPM) Program in Jerusalem, focused on improving the quality of life of Palestinian refugee children with disabilities. You can be one of about 20 international volunteers who will participate in the program, living the experience of the Palestinian and Israeli efforts to create a Community of Peace in Lazzarus Town, which was cut off from East Jerusalem by the 2005 Separation Wall. The GPM program will take place in safe areas, where residents are making efforts to keep tolerance and peace between both cultures. The program includes:  Home stay  Service  Leadership and Peacebuilding training, and others  Cycle for Peace  Visit non-profits, institutions, media  Visit historic sights, including: Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth,

As a participant in this service-learning program, you will receive trainings in peacekeeping, leadership, working with kids with disabilities, and other important skills.

You and the other participants Global PeaceMakers will support the Kite Dreamers School Program (KDS), whose mission is to strengthen the bicultural education in schools located in Palestinian and Israeli co- living areas and promote the values of tolerance, understanding and solidarity in children who live in conflict environments. As a part of the KDS program, you will help execute an informal education camp for 60 children refugees and minors at risk from suburban areas. Massimo Bondi, the director of operations of Service For Peace in the Middle East, shares, “the Kite Dreamer’s School aims to build a place where youth and volunteers can study and practice peace an reconciliation, as well ss to provide a space where people with different cultural, religious, social and ethnic backgrounds can learn and serve together for peace, growth and harmony in the West Bank and Israel.” You will also have the opportunity to participate in the “Cycling for Peace in Galilee” program, in which Palestinians and Israelis cycle together for peace. This program is supported by the Jerusalem Municipality. Furthermore, you will visit local mass media, non-profit organizations and institutions that work for peace and reconciliation in the area, where Apply Now you will find out about many programs where Palestinians and Israelis work together to restore trust and rebuild bridges. The program includes home-stay to give volunteers a first-hand experience of the way people live. You will visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Tiberias, Tel Aviv, the Dead Sea, and the Jude Desert, as a part of the GPM recreational activities.
