After hiking through the scenic Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in Washington state, a group of 27 young Unificationists joined lecturer Gerry Servito at a campsite near the Tieton River for the T2 workshop from August 15 to 19.
How can we reconcile the reality of our modern world with God’s ideal? These were the questions that young people asked and tried to answer at the latest T2 adventure workshop. Amid the evergreens and views of the Cascade Mountains, high schoolers studied the Divine Principle, the main text of the Unification faith.
They learned God’s original plan for the world, as well as the reasons why it has not yet been realized. Each afternoon and evening featured activities designed to make the lectures applicable to the participants’ own lives. The young people were so engaged and eager to learn from their staff that one night, a question and answer session lasted a whopping three hours. Many young people expressed a desire to be successful in their future marriages, but felt bogged down by struggles with dating and pornography.
In the end, they discussed ways to bring the world of today closer to the world that God wants for each of us. This is exactly what the staff hoped to achieve. “We wanted to create a resolution between the ideals… and the reality,” said T2 director Irvin Granstrom. “We wanted to equip the teenagers with a vision and ownership of true love.” After a week spent cultivating this vision, T2’s latest adventure concluded with a hike to Rimrock Lake and a night of testimonies.
