Remarks of Special Emissary Dr. No Hi Pak at European Leaders’Meeting

2015-03-29 · Source: tparents.org

Beloved leaders of the Unification movement from all nations in Eu- rope, in early March, we celebrated the 2nd anniversary of the Foun- dation Day of Cheon Il Guk in Korea and we were so glad to meet you all there at the ‘2015 Cheon Il Guk Leaders’ Conference’.

And now that I am back at the scene of the Providence in Europe, I am doubly glad to see you again here in Vienna, and I welcome you all to the ‘European Leaders’ Meeting’ being held today to make plans for the newly begun 3rd year of Cheon Il Guk.

I especially think this meeting is all the more significant, in that we are go- ing to discuss in detail about how we are going to receive True Mother in early May. And we have to make decisions on the various aspects of prepa- rations. In particular, when I saw True Mother at Cheon Jeong Gung on the 6th af- ter attending Cheon Il Guk Leaders’ Conference, she said that she had called the Special Emissary Gwang Ki Sa back to Korea to carry out anoth- er mission, and that she wanted Dr. Moon and I to take charge of Western Europe as well and become the ‘Special Emissary Couple’ to the entire continent of Europe.

Though we felt we were unworthy to receive such big responsibility, we took humbly this mission with great an honor.

After being appointed as the Special Emissaries to Eastern Europe in June of 2014, we toured across fifteen nations and visited even those churches in the far corners to convey the heart and the love of our True Parents. It was a truly moving time for us to meet with the leaders and members of Eastern Europe as True Parents’ representatives.

At the same time, we also found out the real conditions of the Providential Mission situation in the various nations of Eastern Europe. And as we came face to face with both our limitations and our possibilities, we felt joy and sorrow simultaneously.

Dr. Moon and I have also done our utmost best to communicate directly with the Headquarters and True Mother about the on-site difficulties and necessities, thereby fulfilling our role as a bridge between the scene of ac- tion and True Mother’s heart. By so doing, we have endeavored to make it so that you, the people working on the scene, do not feel abandoned, and the work you carry out so faithfully is brought to the attention of True Mother.

From now on, we will also be touring across the nations in Western Europe to meet with their leaders, Blessed families and members. We promise to do our best to convey True Parents’ love to the people of the Western Euro- pean nations as well, with the same heart we have shown the people in the Eastern nations. We hope you will support us every step of the way.

Beloved leaders, Our task at hand is to make all necessary preparations for the Europe tour of True Mother and International President Sun Jin Moon and her husband, which is scheduled for May, so that their visit goes smoothly. True Mother is coming on this Europe tour to attend the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Mission Work in Europe, ad to give her love and en- couragement to the Blessed families and members of Europe.

Of course, True Mother has visited nations in Europe at least two or three times each, sometimes coming together with True Father and sometimes coming by herself. However, I believe that it is the first time for her to visit Europe in the capacity of our sole leader, who has been working at the fore- front of the Providence from the time of True Father’s Sunghwa. In this re- gard, the upcoming visit of True Mother is a truly significant one.

Throughout history, Europe has been the central continent in the develop- ment of civilization and religious cultures centered on Christianity. At the same time, Europe was also the main stage for the most tragic wars in hu- man history.

The Word of Heaven and the Providence of True Parents was first propa- gated in Germany in 1965, from where it has spread out to the rest of Eu- rope, and during the next fifty years Europe has played a central role in the progress of the Providence of Heaven. I believe it is not an exaggeration to say that Europe has given birth many leaders and contributed greatly to- wards the development of the world Providence centered on True Parents.

Of course, True Mother is coming to visit Europe at this time, partly to show us her appreciation for the contributions made by Europe towards the advancement of the Providence in the last fifty years. However, I believe that the main purpose of her visit is to see the future of the Providence in Europe, which will unfold and develop for generations and generations to come. Therefore, the theme of this year’s celebrations should be ‘the future and not the past’. I think it will be good for us, leaders to bear that in mind.

My dear leaders, After being appointed as Special Emissaries last June, we made five rounds of visits across the nations in Eastern Europe, touring through thirty or so nations a year. During our visits, we have met with Blessed families and members who are keeping their absolute faith and upholding the Will of God in their respective nations, and we were deeply touched by them and we shared many hours of happiness with them.

At the same time, we also discovered that there were many difficulties and limitations to be faced on the scene, and our heartstrings were wrung with anxiety and worry over them. Under the circumstances, we have continued to offer prayers because we were seriously worried about the question of how we can establish the ‘po- tential for sustainable development’ of the Providence in Europe. I am sure we all of us realize that the elder members and leaders of Europe are getting on in age. In five years, we will be in a situation where most of us are too old to work. However, the second generations who can follow in our footsteps and work to advance the Will of God and fill up our churches

are yet to be prepared, and what is more, many second generations are not directly connected to the center of the Providential movement.

In the face of such reality, we leaders and elders are actively carrying out our work as tribal messiahs in our own ways, but we are even more con- cerned about how we can make our second generations stand at the center of the Providential movement.

Moreover, what we need to think about is how we can get our second gen- erations, who are carrying out excellent work in the outside world, to come and live in the ‘realm of the heart of the Divine Principle’, even if we are unable to make them the central leaders of our Church. What we need to remember is that “second generations have not been witnessed yet; they are people to whom we should witness, for they are our closest, best prepared resources and candidates for our witnessing work”.

Therefore, I would like to emphasize to you that we need to set a ‘Two Track System’ as our witnessing strategy, which focuses not only on re- cruiting regular members but also on witnessing to our second generations. This witnessing of our second generations should be strengthened as ‘the Second Strategy’, and we should all pool our wisdom to decide how we can go about it.

In this regard, I believe that the ‘Cranes Club’ project, through which True Mother blessed the second generations last Christmas, is our one ray of hope. We should pay our closest attention to not only the question of how we can raise our second generations to become leaders who can personally

take part in the Providential movement, but also the matter of how we can bring second generations who are actively working in the outside world into the fold, that is, within the fences of the Providence. We need to invest all our abilities into making this possible.

What we should consider next is the activities of ‘Ambassadors for Peace’ through UPF and WFWP, and how we can educate and employ VIPs from leading social classes.

True Father said, “The Providence is developed through witnessing and conferences”. That is why he invested many resources into hosting all kinds of conferences, despite innumerable difficulties. Through those con- ferences, he conveyed ‘Heaven’s Message’ to prominent figures from lead- ing social classes and connected talented men and women to the world peace movement of True Parents.

The fruit of his such efforts is the Ambassadors for Peace Movement. Think about it. If we did not have the organization of Ambassadors for Peace today, how could we possibly convey our message to the outside world and find the way to present solutions of social problems to others? One of True Parents’ greatest achievements was that of defeating commu- nism during True Father’s lifetime and bringing an end to the Cold War. It is my belief that this was the result of the wisdom he has shown by educat- ing and employing prominent figures from the highest social classes in- cluding presidents of nations. In addition, from early on True Parents began their interreligious and inter- denominational movement in Korea, which I think was based on the Will

of Heaven to achieve world peace by educating religious leaders and get- ting them to work together to bring about religious harmony.

This is why True Parents ultimately proposed the UN Reform Plan to estab- lish the Interreligious and International Peace Council within the UN.

I believe that we too have been given the same mission. Educating and em- ploying figures from leading social classes like our Ambassadors for Peace is the ‘Stepping Stone’ we cannot do without in advancing the Will of God. However, after True Father’s Sunghwa, such activities have been rather weakened, and there are even those who say, “Shouldn’t we use the budget for such meetings in other areas instead?” However, if we do not recruit such Abel-type VIPs and Ambassadors for Peace and send them to Korea to build a connection between them and True Parents, how can we connect them to the idea, the heart, and the love of True Parents? I think that every country should place emphasis on this point, no matter how difficult that is.

No representatives from Europe were present at the ILC and the Journal- ists’ Conference held during the last Foundation Day celebrations. Of course, it is difficult to ask them to pay the necessary expenses themselves, and we didn’t have a budget with which to send them. That being the case, some people may say that it couldn’t have been helped. However, if this keeps up, in a few years Europe will have drifted away from the mainstream of the Providence, and those of us in Europe and the work we do will become socially isolated and friendless. When I attended

the ILC held at the last Foundation Day celebrations in the capacity of Spe- cial Emissary to Europe, I felt only too keenly that something was missing from it.

In August, various events will be held to commemorate the third anniver- sary of True Father’s Sunghwa. Together with Seonhak Peace Award Cer- emony given by True Parents, the ILC will be held again in a grander scale including the ‘2015 World Summit’. We should take this opportunity to send VVIPs from Europe, including heads of state, to take part in them. I ask you to bear in mind that True Mother has high hopes in anticipation for the participation of heads of state from nations around the world.

We should next think about ‘Tribal Messiah’ work and Hoondok Family Church activities. In the term ‘tribal messiah’, the concept of tribe that first comes to mind is that of a blood-related tribe. However, the mission of Heavenly Tribal Mes- siahs as clarified by True Parents is the one of forming one’s own tribe through one’s own efforts. Though the official term in English is ‘Heaven- ly Tribal Messiah’, I am of the opinion that, in terms of meaning, it is more the ‘Spiritual Tribal Messiah’. What I mean by this is that the work of a tribal messiah involves conveying the words and blessings of True Par- ents to everyone connected to them in their everyday circles.

When we met with Blessed families on our travels and tours, Dr. Moon and I saw that they were using various methods to educate those around them in the values of the Divine Principle and the value of the true family, thus en- grafting them to the Unification movement. We also observed that, in keep-

ing with the times, our members made use of the internet to exchange in- formation in diverse ways in order to carry out their work as tribal messi- ahs, and we thought it was truly inspirational.

Though it will be difficult for us in Europe to work following the models set by the Philippines, Thailand or Nepal, we should consider how we can propagate True Parents’ ‘Cheon Il Guk Ideal’ in our current social envi- ronment to form our own spiritual tribes. In carrying out this work, the leaders should continue to encourage the members and organize a network through which all members can work together in solidarity, so that they can have a synergy effect on one another.

One thing that deeply impressed Dr. Moon and I as we toured across the countries, the churches and the communities of Europe, was that a small number of Blessed families were living scattered in all directions and yet were keeping their life of faith. To us, it seemed as if those families were in the process of completing the model of Hoondok Family Church, which True Parents have emphasized many times in their speeches from early on. It is difficult for them to gather together at once place because they are scores of miles distant from one another, and so coming together and work- ing together is also out of the question for them. However, we saw that those Blessed families are keeping their faith in their everyday lives, cen- tering on the life of the Divine Principle taught them by True Parents and the words given by True Parents. They are in fact functioning as Hoondok Family Churches that are nurturing their spiritual tribes in a diversity of ways. That is why we came to believe that the work of leaders will henceforth be-

come all the more important. This is because, in my opinion, our future de- pends much on how we can support, encourage and expand these Hoondok Family Church activities. I also had the idea that it would be nice to have some kind of a manual or guide book that will help to develop those activi- ties even further.

The general method of witnessing is to teach the candidate about the Di- vine Principle through lectures, thereby bringing about a spiritual change in them. However, the step before that is for us to demonstrate the lifestyle of the Divine Principle by practicing it ourselves. Because that is the most ba- sic step in witnessing, I feel that Hoondok Family Church activities are ab- solutely possible and necessary.

In other words, since the greatest virtue we can practice in our lives is what True Parents have taught us Blessed families, to “live for the sake of oth- ers”, we can practice this through our Hoondok Family Church activities and thus set an example before others.

I was quite touched by the article written by Kathy, the Special Emissary to Africa, about how the king of Lesotho came to attend the ILC held on the second anniversary of True Father’s Sunghwa. The National Leader of Lesotho was not externally endowed with advantages, but the modesty, passion and devotion he showed moved the king so much that he actually came to attend the World Summit.

Beloved leaders of Europe, After True Father’s Sunghwa, we are fortunate in that True Mother is stand-

ing at the forefront of the Providence and guiding us. She is leading the Providence with so many concerns that she stays up nights, unable to sleep for the anguish in her heart. The words she has spoken to us and the ac- complishments she has achieved alone show us how much she is worried about our future and how she is managing and developing the Providence step by step. When we see all that she has done for us, we cannot help but give her our highest respect and deepest love.

I can never forget how True Mother appealed to us with tears right after True Father’s Sunghwa, saying “You should be grateful for the fact that I am here now with you and leading the Providence. On the day of my holy wedding, and again as I stood before True Father after his Sunghwa, I promised that I will fulfill the Will of God at any cost. There will be no stopping for us henceforth. The only direction to go is forward.”

Thinking about the future of the Unification Church, one of the first things she did was to sell True Father’s private helicopter and establish the Won Mo Pyeong Ae Foundation for the education of second generations. Thus, she has made it possible for our children to dream. Her act of yearly supporting youths from more than one hundred nations across the world with scholarships topping ten million dollars has served to connect the hearts of young leaders and True Parents. In addition, True Mother has founded the UPA program in Korea and is personally guiding the curriculum. It is an educational course for nurturing the next generation leaders of our movement within our Church, and the first graduates of the course is already being sent out to the scene of the Providence.

Moreover, she is already preparing for the new era by appointing young second generation leaders in the post of Providential organization presi- dents or other posts of leadership at the forefront.

Secondly, True Mother has instructed that the scriptures of Cheon Il Guk be compiled and published. An important factor that determines whether a re- ligion is a higher religion is whether it has well-organized scriptures or not. True Mother said, “The words given us by True Father are like diamonds in the rough; I will cut them and polish them, thereby making them the most beautiful and brightly-shining jewels. The scriptures should be easy enough for everyone to read them and become enlightened about the Truth of Heaven.”

There are some among our members who have complaints about this new compiling and revision process, but what True Mother has done by taking the lead in compiling the ‘Cheon Il Guk Scriptures’ into three integrated books is a truly remarkable feat that will go down in history. We should all be deeply grateful to her for it. It was a task that needed to be done in the history of the Providence, and only True Mother could have led it.

Thirdly, another of True Mother’s great achievements is that she has insti- tuted and promulgated the ‘Cheon Il Guk Constitution’ for the systemized management of the Unification movement centered on True Parents. Thus, she has firmly established a system by which the Providence can be man- aged in a systemized manner, no matter what circumstances may come.

At present, we are challenged in many ways, both internally and externally. In particular, the division within the True Family and the defiance of the True Children have pained us and confused us, and, as a result, not only True Mother but also all of us have been much hurt by them. Even under such circumstances, True Mother is telling us, “You should not look side- ways, but follow your mainstream faith. Who is the heir of True Parents? Only the one who can best follow and serve the heart of True Parents can be their heir.” With these words, she is leading the Providence with strength and character. It is my belief that the reason which International President and Sun Jin Nim was appointed instead is that she is the True Child who is most in alignment with the heart of True Parents.

My dear leaders, True Mother said to us Blessed families, “You have the same value as clear water, which has been awakened by the Truth and reborn through the conversion of lineage.” She also added that even such clear water grows stale if it stands still and stagnant, and loses its life force. Clear wa- ter is the origin of life. She asked us Blessed families not to stay stagnant but to flow on and on and become the water of life, which can purify this desert-like satanic world and give birth to new life.

True Mother has also blessed us with the words, “Happy are we who have received the Blessing!” Nowadays, there is a tendency to judge one’s hap- piness based on material values. However, we have received, not the mater- ial things, but the Truth and the Word of new life that has been our salva- tion, and the Blessing through which our eternal life has been ensured.

Therefore, there is no one who can be happier than us. Happiness is the joy that comes from giving and sharing love by living for the sake of others.

In her address given at the recent Foundation Day celebrations, True Moth- er gave the example of an olive tree that lets down its roots even in the most barren environment of the desert. She said that the roots of an olive tree that lives in such an environment delves deep into the soil to find wa- ter, and thus it grows and bears fruits for more than fifteen years. She then went on to say that we too should learn from this olive tree to have a strong life force and the ability to adapt to the environment, so that we do not for- get our original purpose, but instead work hard to become victors who can bear fruit at all costs, no matter what difficult environment we find our- selves in.

She also gave the example of Machu Picchu, the remains left behind by the Inca civilization of a city built on the mountaintop, and said that we should learn from the wisdom, patience, and indefatigable efforts of the Incans, who overcame unfavorable conditions beyond human imagination and con- structed a city on a mountain.

She was encouraging us to learn the wisdom of Heaven from True Father, who overcame unimaginable hardships during his ninety some years of life and seventy some years of Providential course and triumphed in the end, so that we too can fulfill our mission as tribal messiahs by all means necessary and thus lay down the basis for Cheon Il Guk.

Beloved leaders, brothers and sisters,

The third year of Cheon Il Guk has now begun. This is the last year of the first three-year course of Vision 2020. It is also the year in which we com- memorate the third anniversary of True Father’s Sunghwa, and in which the period of mourning for True Father comes to an end. In other words, it is the year in which our three-year mourning at the grave of True Father draws to an end.

Henceforth, we should not remember True Father through events alone; we should always remember and cherish his memory in our faith, in our heart, and in our lives. Moreover, we should be eternally proud of the fact that our True Parents, the messiah of this world, were manifested on earth, and that the accomplishments of True Father achieved during his lifetime are truly great, and we should pass this message on to our descendants with pride.

What we should be most proud of is that, by learning about the words of True Parents and testifying that True Parents are the messiah, we have been set on the path of eternal life. I believe that this is our duty as Blessed fami- lies, who are the children of True Parents, and the first step in practicing filial piety towards them. It is also the way for us to participate in the work of human salvation.

Though we are unworthy of such a great honor, Dr. Moon and I have been appointed as the Special Emissary couple to Europe by True Mother, and we plan to do our utmost best to visit those of you working on the scene, and to care for the Will of God and work together with you for the Provi- dence. Thank you.
