How many South Koreans have met with Kim Jong Un? Pyeonghwa Motors CEO Sang Kwon Pak, who has already met Kim Jong Un twice, is scheduled to meet him a third time on December 17. To be completely accurate, Mr. Pak is currently a US citizen, but he is of Korean heritage and was born in Korea. He petitioned for US citizenship to facilitate doing business overseas, and in particular in North Korea. He is practically the only South Korean who has publicly met with Kim Jong Un. Mr. Pak has visited North Korea more than 200 times and has been doing business there since the 1990s. He received an invitation to the 2nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il’s death on December 17, and is planning to meet Kim Jong Un when he attends the anniversary.
First Meeting in 2011, Pleasant Chat in 2013
CEO Pak of Pyeonghwa Motors, a South Korean - North Korean joint venture, first met Kim Jong Un in December 2011 at the funeral of Kim Jong Il. On that occasion, he travelled to North Korea by the land route through the DMZ, in the company of Moon Hyung-jin (the seventh son of Unification Church founder Sun Myung Moon), who was the World President of the Unification Church at the time. He arrived in North Korea sooner than Mrs. Lee Hee Ho and Chairman Hyun Jung Un from South Korea. The reason this was possible is that both Pak and Moon are US citizens. CEO Pak met Kim Jung Un and shook hands with him during the funeral formalities, and attended a dinner banquet presided over by Kim . . .
