In honor of Doris Orme

One of the great Mystics of our age, Doris Orme, has passed into the spirit world. In honor of her, here is the story of her personal conversion experience (excerpted from my recent book Experiences with God: Stories about Mystics.)

Doris Orme was born in North Haledon, New Jersey on January 8, 1930. Spiritually sensitive from early childhood on, she describes one of the mystical experiences she had in her book God tells New Things to Doris.

It happened when she was twelve years old. She was participating in an Easter sunrise service with the Presbyterian Church of Pottstown, Pennsylvania. The congregation had gathered at the foot of a mountain that had a cross on top of it. As she was kneeling in prayer, she received a strong impulse to open her eyes and look at the cross:

“At that moment the sun was just rising and the entire cross was magnificently beautiful; surrounding it was this beautiful golden light and I felt…the presence of God, and my whole body was engulfed in the warmth of God’s love. I was filled with joy.” [God tells New Things to Doris, pp. 6-7]

Afterwards, the congregation returned to the church and Doris went to her Sunday school class. Her teacher began speaking about the parables of Jesus, and Doris began to think about how wonderful it would be to have a friend like Jesus, because he loved children so much. At that moment, the door to the classroom began to open. When Doris looked to see who was at the door, she saw Jesus standing there:

“I was completely mesmerized as I looked into the face of Jesus, and his arms were outstretched towards me. He was calling to me, and I felt this enormous love, a love I never ever felt with my father or mother. I thought…if only everyone could feel the love that I feel.” [Ibid. p.7]

The door quickly closed, and Doris was so full of joy and excitement she found it hard to focus on her Sunday school lesson:

“Then a feeling came over me of tremendous peace… This incredible excitement, joy, and peace that rolled into one little girl of twelve years old, was beyond any mortal words that I might try to describe. …All the next day while I was at school, I kept feeling waves of God’s love all around me.” [Ibid. p.7]

When she got home from school the mystical experience continued:

“The house was filled with a whirling brilliance that caused me to think that the whole house was on fire… Then I heard a masculine voice speak to me very loudly, “Get down on your knees!” I literally threw myself down with my face to the floor and I felt someone touch the top of my head, and then it was like an electric shock going all over my body and I was filled with an intensity of love again like I had experienced the previous day. I remember lying there and thinking, ‘I’m good now and I always will be good and I’ll never be bad anymore.’” [Ibid. p.8]

This “baptism of fire” from God’s Holy Spirit transformed Doris. Not only did it deeply move her heart, but it left her with spiritual gifts of healing and prophecy. She has spent decades in ministry. Over the years, Doris has received dozens of revelations from God. One of my favorites is excerpted here:

Revelation from God – June 1999, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England:

“…Man’s intuitive faculties will become very advanced, and even if there are those who may try and take advantage of good people, they will be automatically stopped by being exposed before they can activate any evil acts. The world will become absolutely beautiful, and an atmosphere of serenity will pervade everything. Fear will no longer be felt, and a great feeling of freedom will flood the earth. All kinds of development will take place… The development scientifically will be astounding; all kinds of sickness that have had no cure will be cured.

The battle between good and evil has been taking place for thousands of years because of people disconnecting themselves from My Divine Love. Once people surrender completely to Me and recognize that it is I that have made them and not themselves,…things will change for the good in a very rapid manner.

… As men and women become One with Me, they will be united in My Divine Love eternally. They will have children that reflect their love of Me. The world will be filled with My love, and families that will demonstrate an unending love… Men and women often feel they need their soulmates; well this is the hour when that great phenomenon will literally take place on the earth by millions of people. When a man reaches the highest goal of being perfectly one with My heart, mind, and soul, a woman who has also reached this goal of perfect love with Me will be led by Me to meet one another. They will know intuitively that they are perfect for one another. Their minds and hearts will show them beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were made for one another by Me. The feelings they feel for one another will be very intense… They will be joined together and their love will intensify more and more on earth, and will increase throughout eternity.

I am the essence of all love, and when you are one with My love, you will never fear death. You will realize that love is eternal and can never die…

The only way any man or woman can find complete happiness is to become one with Me. When men and women reach this Divine state of Love, there is no one they cannot love…”
