A Studio Make Over

2011-06-15 · Source: tparents.org

Most of you probably didn’t know that our Studio was flooded 2 weekends ago! It was quite a shock for all of us, but luckily none of our equipment suffered since none of it was completely immersed in the water!

The first thing to do, was remove as much of everything as we could and turn off all the plug sockets. Grant went to get a carpet cleaner straight away to suck out all the water. Once all the water was removed, the carpet tiles were left to dry out. As you can imagine, the smell of damp had begun to travel throughout the entire basement, and downstairs of LG (not very pleasant) but we were thankful that it was only rain water that had flooded our studio and not the sewage from the manholes just outside!

Now that everything had been cleared, all carpet tiles removed and drying, what was there to do? Re-decorating and designing the studio had been something Réamonn and I had previously thought about and discussed, and it only seemed like the perfect time to make changes, while we were waiting for everything to dry out. In no time we began searching for colour schemes, and already agreed to have Jonathan Bateman on board to help do the painting. We agreed on 2 shades of blue, with a white strip going around the entire room. Dark colours usually make a room seem smaller, but we don’t plan on leaving it just there. We will be putting up acoustic panels around the room which will deaden the sound, and improve the quality of recording. These panels will have a white material covering them, which will be connected all throughout the studio by this white border.

What did we learn from this experience? Good things come to those who are creative!
