Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo has been admitted to Zambia’s University Teaching Hospital with suspected malaria.
Family spokesperson George Zulu confirmed in an interview that the 88-year-old excommunicated Roman Catholic archbishop fell sick on Thursday at his residence in Twikatane area and that he was rushed to UTH for treatment.
He said his condition had improved remarkably.
“[The] Archbishop was unwell yesterday at home and then when we saw that the situation was not improving, we decided to call an ambulance to rush him to the hospital at UTH. The doctors carried out investigations and everything else is very good but they found that he is positive to malaria which they are treating now. At least today he has shown remarkable improvement. He is very happy that this morning he was visited by the Archbishop of Lusaka [Alick Banda]. He was very happy, very excited and he has been praying also for the other fellow patients after he made those improvements. He enjoys receiving visitors,” said Zulu.
“Depending on the doctors, he may be released back home by tomorrow [today]. Please let people who want to visit come through. You know what this man has done to this country in the field of religion. He is a giant Catholic. He will welcome faith that would want to visit him and wish him well. He is well according to his old age.”
Milingo’s wife, Maria Sung, is by his bedside at the UTH VIP Fast track side ward, block E21.
