Meeting Minutes of the District 10 Council for May 5, 2013

Council Members Present: David Wolfenberger, Towa Lee, Eric Sylte, Mike Faris, Richard Stumpf, Mike Lancey, David Burgess Jai Na Fiala (speaker phone,) Larry Krishnek, Sarah Nishioka. Council Members Absent: none

Agenda Item #1: The council invited Eunha Holdhus, Masataka Kubo and Francesca Kubo to share on ways to improve our Sunday service and church activities to make them more inspiring for 2nd gen. Discussion: Things to change: ● The sense of community and support is missing. ● The pastor needs to reach out to young people more. Open up for communication. ● Needs to be consistency of our services. For example: 1st sunday of the month Rev. Krishnek gives sermon, 2nd- local pastor, 3rd- youth..etc. ● The services seems chaotic ● Need to educate the youth. Have quarterly workshops for the young people. ● Need to find a better building. The church is outdated, crowded and old. ● Work on the stage and the presentation of our church. ● Focus on improving the services ● Make Financial discussions. ● Improve Sunday school. ● Have a clear plan and have a Sunday designated to invite guests

Things that are happening: ● There is a monthly young couples gathering in which couples gather to have fun, marriage enrichment talks and for support.

Action: Rev. Krishnek will talk to pastor Mira about the points that were made and help improve our local services.

Agenda Item #2: “Lead and Impact” workshop May 17-19 in CA Discussion: The council would like to send Eric Sylte as a Seattle representative to the workshop. Richard Stumpf will go from Oregon and Marcus will go from Idaho. Each community will financially support its representative. Action #1: Rev. Krishnek will ask Itsuko san about budget. Action #2: Rev. Krishnek will promote the seminar and ask for more people that would be interested in going. Especially 2nd gen. Action #3: Do a special Fundraiser at church for this purpose. During Sunday service. Agenda Item #3: District pastor search committee

Discussion: There are currently 2 different models of leadership been practiced in America. 1- An example from Maryland: There is a team: part time Pastor, pastor adviser, outreach leader, youth minister. 2- Have a full time leader who is working toward the betterment of the church community on a daily basis. We need to discuss which model will fit best for our district 10. Action#1: An email will be sent out informing the community of the 2 models and that there will be a presentation followed by a discussion session on June 2nd where members of the community can voice their opinion. Action #2: Mike Lancey will create an email address for the council. Action #3: Eric Sylte will work with Rev. Krishnek to form the email. Action #4: David Burgess will give a (5-10min) presentation on June 2nd about the 2 models and lead the discussion afterwards. Action #5: Rev. Krishnek will recruit people from the community for the District pastor search committee.

Agenda Item #4: Quarterly financial report Discussion: OH started practicing a quarterly financial report which consist of a letter from the district pastor, tithing report, and a finance summary report. This report has been sent to each tithing family on a quarterly basis. Action: The council has voted to do the same in Seattle.

Agenda Item #5: Report about Windermere Discussion: Mike Lancey talked to Kaye Allen who is a representative from the legal department of the HQ. If Windermere were to be used as an “international student center” it would have to start paying taxes which we cannot afford, therefore it’s better not to use Windermere as a business.

Agenda Item #6: Local council for Seattle Action#1: Rev. Krishnek to talk to Pastor Mira about getting Seattle local committee started and start improving our church services.
