November has come and with it, a new book review from Ala Z., our Children’s Ministry Officer. Let’s find out more about “Unification Faith Parenting: 13 Best Practices” by Michael Kiely and Jennifer Tanabe.
In the previous months I shared with you about books for children, books that are wholesome for nourishing their moral and spiritual growth. But as blessed families, who strive to raise our children in a Godly way in today’s world that is spiralling towards a free-sex and anti-religion culture, are aware that just books and spiritual education on Sundays is not enough to bequeath our faith to the next generation. I am sure many parents in the Unification movement share my greatest concern - how to create a family environment that cultivates faith and that will encourage my children to connect to God and hopefully accept the Unificationist faith?
In this effort, Dr. Kiely’s book Unification Faith Parenting: 13 Best Practices was a breath of fresh air. In this book six Unification families share their experiences raising second generation children who have ultimately made their family’s faith their own as young adults. Their testimonies about what worked, and what didn’t are fascinating, funny, heart- breaking, healing and enlightening. Through their words this book covers what not to do as well as what to do in faith parenting your children. Their experience and wisdom are presented as 13 best practices, that may appear simple yet profoundly rich to support all parents on their challenging journey.
“There is no greater blessing for humankind than being trusted to raise God’s children. It hasn’t been easy for God, and it hasn’t been easy for humanity, so we need all the help we can get. Applying the principles in this book will give you a fighting chance.”
Rev. Demian Dunkley, President, FFWPU USA
“Unification Faith Parenting is an excellent read for parents, church leaders, pastors and leaders of youth groups. Parents will find comfort as they identify with their own struggles raising children of faith.”
Nora M. Spurgin, MSW, Former Principal of Bridgeport International Academy
