I am appointed by TM to lead PWPA USA, Professors World Peace Association

2019-05-06 · Source: tparents.org

You may know that I am appointed by True Mother to lead PWPA USA. PWPA, Professors World Peace Association was founded in the US in 1973. You can read of its history and activities here: pwpa, org.

Commitment of resources to support the work to which I’ve been appointed, has not yet materialized, thus limiting the extent to which I can act on this appointment. I have submitted clear, simple, vetted, and reviewed business plans, including budgets for project development, and now wait to see if a response is in the offing.

For those of you not familiar with PWPA, it may be understood as work designed to organize scholars and intellectual resources to support, and to reflect “Principled ideals.” The Principle recommends that human life is meant to realize self-mastery (maturity), social compassion (egalitarian values and relationship structures), and finally environmental responsibility in industry and commerce. From a spiritual and religious standpoint, central to this human purpose is a relationship with God.

Scholars and intellectuals have a vital role to play to help us achieve this purpose. Intellectuals can relate to this role and responsibility on a spectrum of three ways:

They can be unaware and distracted, thus failing to help create noble people, despite working hard and producing all kinds of books and content.

Others in the academy can be active as enemies of constructive and wholesome human life, morally bankrupt, and influential to the detriment of human growth and goodness, pushing morally questionable paths and ideologies.

Finally, scholars can work with others within and across disciplines with gratitude and commitment to serve people and society, seeking to make a positive difference in our lives and in the world.

This (intellectual) sector of society wields enormous influence, and can be seen as a first line of spiritual and cultural battle. Scholars influence religious leaders, political and media figures, impressionable young people at their mercy in universities and grad schools, and so many other fields and endeavors. Investing in and seeking a voice in what intellectuals produce is very important.

The vision to create inventive, orderly and constructive ways for professors and scholars to do good with their gifts, and to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration for high purposes is unique and visionary, a genuine testament to the work of God in our time through True Parents.

There was a period during which this (PWPA) work and vision was well supported, and PWPA leaders met this generous support with authentic success and noteworthy outcomes.

We pray that this work might once again be supported toward actual renewal. Prayers and fingers crossed on that.

If you have interest to know more about this work and its history, or if you have any questions at all

please, by all means, write or call. f.kaufmann@ pwpa,org , +1 646 220 8281

On the chance that support might in fact materialize, I am using this time to prepare by surveying “the field” (e.g., this letter to you) to see if Unification members and friends have good relationships (friend, colleague, student, neighbor etc.) with scholars you want to recommend for involvement with PWPA as it grows and develops.

For now I want merely to collect names and brief background information of your recommendations, people in the academy and other intellectual professions. Please be so kind as to send me names and background of the scholars you know and would like to recommend. (Please indicate if the person is a Unification member, perhaps a BC, or if the person is a “non-member” friend who shares our ideals, and ideas for good.

PWPA will take no action with your recommendations until it becomes clear that a funding commitment is established.

If we do get reliable commitment, we will begin developing programs. First, we will create clear, next steps, and then I will write you again to report and bring you up to date. Properly built organizations (IMO) respect personal relationships. PWPA should be no exception. Outreach to active leaders and potential partners should extend through original friendships and relationships to the extent possible.

Here is the concrete ask and request:

Please respond to me and let me know if you received this email

Please send me a list of scholars whom you would like to see invited to PWPA activity (if the work in fact gets underway)

Thank you very much for your time and consideration
