What’s cooking in our local communities?
Dallas, Texas Young Adult Ministry
The Dallas YAM group organized their first Trivia Night and young adults from around the subregion joined in on the fun (and educational) event.
CARP: North Lake
On May 23-24, the North Lake CARP chapter held an online Principle seminar based on the teachings of CARP Founders Father and Mother Moon. A small group of the club was able to gather in person (note masks and distance!) while many more joined virtually. Under the mentorship of a parent volunteer, the student leaders themselves gave the presentations on the Principle. It was a moving and eye- opening experience for everyone who attended, especially those for whom it was their first Principle seminar.
Las Vegas, Nevada CARP: Las Vegas
The Las Vegas CARP chapter celebrated the end of the semester with some of the participant’s parents, and out-of-state CARP students. Dr. Federico Zaragoza, the president of the College of Southern Nevada shared that CARP is exemplary in modeling a family culture at a college institution.
Youth and Young Adult Ministry
The youth leaders in Las Vegas made a special delivery of cookies and balloons for middle school and high school graduates in their community. Congratulations graduates!
Little Rock, Arkansas Young Adult Ministry
After a bad storm, a huge oak tree fell on the Arkansas family church building. The youth and young adults in the community have been working hard to break down and remove the tree so the center will be ready to go when they can meet again in person.
Norman, Oklahoma
Youth Ministry
The Oklahoma community are reading HDH together with 1st and 2nd gen before the national service each Sunday. They just finished the second book of True Mother’s anthology and will now begin True Mother’s Memoir.
Salt Lake City, Utah
CARP: Westminster
This past month CARP Westminster has been working closely with the Office of Global Peace and Spirituality and has jointly created an interfaith dinner with the President called “Better Together.” This event will be held in the fall with all the faith club leaders on campus and their respective advisers with the featured guest being B. Dobkin, the president of the college. The hope of this event is to bridge the gap between the administration and faith clubs on campus, but also to bring awareness to religious discrimination prevalent on Westminster.
Southwest is the best - Upcoming Subregional events
Healing Together: Community Forum
On Sunday June 14th, a community forum will be held to promote an environment of healing related to racial issues in our nation. During this call, a panel of young adults will address topics including thoughts on the protests across the US and now the world in response to the murder of George Floyd, the effects of systemic and institutional racism, where to find solace and peace during this time, how to actively support the BLM movement and be an ally for our black brothers and sisters, along with other questions to foster an environment of sharing and healing.
Contact B. Schneider for more information.
CAMP LONE STAR
The theme for this Summer’s upcoming workshop is “Light the Torch”. Through this workshop, we hope to ignite the desire in each of us to carry the flame from those that
came before us and inspire a legacy of love for generations to come. We hope that this can serve as an opportunity to not only inspire but also give guidance on how to love and care for ourselves in order to love and serve the world.
Due to continued safety concerns based on COVID-19, this year’s camp will be held virtually. The core staff team is working hard to make this year another unforgettable experience full of inspiring talks, fun activities, and a community bond that distance can’t break!
