The “March 1st Movement 106th Anniversary Korean Reunification Mansei Movement and Peace March” for the era of Heavenly Unified Korea was held on March 3rd at the Yu Gwan-sun Patriot Memorial Site in Byeongcheon-myeon, Cheonan City. Around 300 participants attended, including religious leaders, youth students, and multicultural families.

Co-hosted by the Korean Council of Religious Leaders, Universal Peace Federation, and Women’s Federation for World Peace, the event consisted of a peace march, religious peace ceremony, memorial performance, commemorative speech, reading of the Declaration of Independence, and three cheers for Heavenly Unified Korea.

In his commemorative speech, Lee Hyun-young, President of the Korean Council of Religious Leaders, said, “After the March 1st Movement, the ‘Mansei’ cheers were a resolution for independence and to reclaim our country. Today, with North and South separated, we shout ‘Mansei for the Great Korean Reunification!’” He encouraged religious leaders to take the lead for Heavenly Unified Korea.

Kim Su-yeon, President of the International Family Association, said, “The March 1st Movement was a cry for freedom and peace beyond the will for independence. As a woman born in Japan who married into Korea, I am participating with an apologetic heart on behalf of Japan and with respect for Yu Gwan-sun. I want to live for a unified Korea in the future,” commemorating the patriot Yu Gwan-sun.

Kim Young-seok, Vice President of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification-Heavenly Korea, emphasized the spirit of the March 1st Movement, saying, “106 years ago, our people shouted ‘Korean Independence Mansei’ with one voice across the Korean Peninsula. At its core were faith, justice, and love for humanity. I pray that like the day of the March 1st Movement, we become one and achieve true independence and Heavenly Unified Korea.”

The Korean Council of Religious Leaders has been active as an interfaith organization since its establishment in December 1965, expanding religion’s social contribution through annual reenactments of the independence movement on March 1st, interfaith dialogues, and international religious academic conferences.
