The Summit for Peace on the Korean Peninsula, which has kept both those in heaven and on earth holding their breath in anticipation, has come to a close. Before the official start, energetically accompanied by drums, cadets entered the auditorium with each one bearing the flag of one of the participating nations, all of which have established bilateral relations with the two Koreas.

The heads of state who had come to Korea to attend the summit entered and took their places on the stage, together with True Mother, to thunderous applause from the audience. In his opening message, Ban Ki- moon, one of the co-chairs for the event, explained the significance of the summit. He referred to the global environmental crisis and stressed the importance of global solidarity and action, along with the agenda for the reunification of Korea. Former Secretary General Ban testified to the achievements of True Parents and to the tremendous effort True Mother invested in preparing for this World Summit.

The opening keynote speech was given by Donald Trump, the former US president. In a strong voice, Mr. Trump stated, “Strength is needed to safeguard free democracy. Nations which share the same values and democracy must combine their strength to defend freedom and justice.” His speech was followed by speeches from other noted leaders, including former US vice-president, Dick Chaney.

The second keynote speech was a historic address by former US vice-president Mike Pence. As a man of deep religious faith, he expressed his vision for world peace and Korean unification supported by God’s word.

Although he is a politician, he emphasized the importance of religious freedom from the standpoint of a religious person. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo next gave a strong critique of the atheistic ideologies of China and North Korea and asked that we pray for them to change.

The spirit of this summit, the realization of one world centered on Heavenly Parent was conveyed well through these American leaders. It was a wonderful opportunity to convey the vision of a heavenly unified Korea and heavenly unified world to the entire world.

The third keynote speech was delivered by Hun Sen, the prime minister of Cambodia. He said that to bring unification, a practical strategy is needed and that both countries must take the lead with their efforts.

He also stated that to build a unified nation, the roles of government and civic groups are vital, and asked that we cooperate with and support UPF in its work for world peace. As a practical initiative, he proposed that cultural exchanges, crossing the DMZ, be initiated. He stressed that there is no need for empty promises and that it is time for action.

Finally, True Mother gave her special address. In her speech, she spoke of the core of God’s providence of salvation. Seeing the heads of state concentrated on what True Mother was saying was a moving sight. Finally, she compared the shimjeong of Heavenly Parent and True Parents to a narcissus, a beautiful flower, saying that when one truly conveys Heavenly Parent’s heart, tears will flow down without ceasing.

I offer my congratulations on the success of this summit, and I would like to express my gratitude to Director General Yun and to all of the international headquarters staff members for bringing this victory despite very difficult circumstances.
