The 2024 Universal Ballet 40th Anniversary Nationwide Tour Of South Korea

Universal Ballet’s 40th anniversary celebration, featuring the classic ballet masterpiece “Sleeping Beauty,” will be conducted as a nationwide tour.

Universal Ballet’s “Sleeping Beauty,” which will be performed from July 12-13 in Busan, July 19-20 in Gyeongju, July 26-27 in Daejeon, August 9-10 in Boryeong, August 16-17 in Changwon, and August 23- 24 in Daegu, is a masterpiece of classical ballet that elegantly depicts Charles Perrault’s famous fairy tale.

It is one of the ‘three great ballet masterpieces’ by composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky and choreographer Marius Petipa. It premiered in 1890 at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia, and was first performed in Korea by Universal Ballet in 1994. It has been loved by people around the world for over 130 years.

This production, composed of three acts, is filled with spectacles including stage sets recreating a majestic palace, splendid court costumes, and performances by over 60 dancers rigorously trained in classical ballet fundamentals.

Notably, this performance has been designed to be enjoyable even for those experiencing ballet for the first time by omitting dances unrelated to the plot and adding narration. The narration will be provided by Julia H. Moon, the director of Universal Ballet who will lead the performance.
