The Aewon volunteer organization inaugurated Hoon Sook Moon, director of the Universal Ballet, as chairman on March 21, 2013 at the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) headquarters in Yongsan, Korea.
At the inauguration, Segye Ilbo, a Seoul-based daily, reported that Moon said, “My first cultural volunteer work started with performing The Nutcracker at the Universal Ballet in 1997. The smiles from handicapped children sincerely moved my heart.” She also pointed to Mother Teresa and Audrey Hepburn as people she respected based on their dedication to volunteer work.

“By inheriting the teachings of true love, I will work together to make a happier and peaceful society,” she said, according to Segye Ilbo. She continued: “I will inherit the vision and ideal of the founders; I will work to realize true love.”
Moon showed her gratitude to the former Aewon chairman, Ms. Kyung Joon Lee, and said, “Aewon went through a lot of crisis during the last 20 years, but it accomplished many things.”
Moon, as the new chairman, said, “We will expand the projects that the volunteer organization Aewon was currently supporting,” according to the Korean online news agency, Newsis.
Aewon was founded by Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, founders of FFWPU, in 1994 in order to realize their vision of true love. This organization has served the underprivileged for 20 years. Aewon has developed cultural welfare projects such as “Dream Seed Lesson,” “Dream Seed Concert” and “Performance Delivery Service.” As part of the “Dream Seed Lesson” the volunteers teach music, art and play to underprivileged or handicapped children. Then, those children take part in a “Dream Seed Concert.” Volunteers with “Performance Delivery Service.” stage performances on location for people who live in the countryside or are handicapped. The Aewon organization also hosts North Korean art exhibitions and sends books to North Korea. Its volunteers help out in local soup kitchens and assist the elderly.
At the event, Mr. Myung Jin Ko, a participant of “Dream Seed Lesson” was able to develop his dream and gave a special performance, according to Newsis.
Also in attendance at the inauguration were Dr. Chang Shik Yang, president of FFWPU-Korea; Mr. Min Ha Kim , chairman of the Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation, Mrs. Lan Young Moon, president of Women’s Federation for World Peace, Mr. Jin Kwang Ko, standing member of Korea Council of Volunteers, among others.
