IRFF UK: Latest developments at IRFF UK - Updated LinkedIn presence

2025-04-15 · Source: tparents.org

Dear friend of IRFF UK and all of the projects we support, currently serving about 3,800 or more people in Africa. Sorry for this group email but it is intended as being addressed to each of you individually. You have faithfully helped us in the past or also currently in improving the lives of all of those beneficiaries in Africa and we wanted to inform you about renewed efforts in this new financial year in finding new donors, including new corporate donors, and also volunteers.

We have just revived and updated our LinkedIn presence and will be posting once a week regularly from now on. If you are also on LinkedIn but are not following IRFF UK yet, we would appreciate it if you could become a follower since it helps our exposure on that platform greatly. Also if you know of anyone who would like to be a donor or a volunteer please contact them. We have a number of unmanned roles at this time and an unending need for funds to pass on.

Having completed funding of a biodigester toilet at Destiny School recently and also a water well at a neighbouring school which the Ugandan GirlChild visits + attempts now to raise funds ($3,000) to educate 20 foster families in DR Congo in business to take care of 60 children + supporting all of the other projects (8 more), we always have plenty to do.

Please check out our IRFF UK presence on LinkedIn and our website; we appreciate all and any support you can give in helping these good people have a better life. 100% of your donations go to the projects.

Also, please feel free to ask for any further information at any time.

Many thanks from the IRFF UK team

Eddie Hartley writing on their behalf as the Chair and Treasurer

PS: Destiny School sponsors should be receiving a personalised email shortly about their sponsorship

-t Meet the Team Behind IRFF UK

We’re a small but passionate team of six individuals based in the UK, working together to support life-changing internatio nal development projects across five African countries.

Some of us receive modest remuneration, others genero usly volunteer their time - all united by a shared mission to create lasting change.

• Thanks to the steady income from ou r charity shop in Alton and Gift Aid contributions, w e’ re pro ud to say t hat 100% of all new donations go directly to our local teams on the ground - with no deductions for overheads.

We may be small in number, but we’re big o n impact - currently reaching and improving the lives of at least 3,800 people across Africa, and we’re just getting started.

Whether it’s the radiant smile of the head teacher at Destiny School in Uganda watching her students t hrive, o r the moment of pure joy in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, when a child in Pat’s SH INE literacy class deciphers the j umble of symbols and begins to read - these are the everyday miracles that drive us forward.

With 73 pupils in that single SHIN E class alo ne, and many other powerfu l stories unfolding in our project s across the continent (which w e’ll be sharing soon!), our dedicated team is inspired daily to do more, reach fu rther, and serve even more communities in need. e Thank you to everyone w ho supports us - your generosity truly goes t he distance.

In Africa, 33% of children between t he ages of 12 to 14 are not in schoo l. Thi s troubling statistic sheds light o n the complex cha llenges facing education systems across the continent.

Barriers such as poverty, inadequate infrastructure, cultural norms, and conflict often hinder access to educatio n for mil lions of children. For many families, t he cost of schooling, including uniforms, books, and transportation, is simply unaffordable. Additio nally, outdated teaching methods and limited resources in schools contribute to low enrollment and high dropout rates.

The consequences of missing out on educatio n are profound and far- reaching. Without access t o schooling, children are more likely to face poverty, unemployment, and exploitation. They are also deprived of the opportunity to develop essential skills and knowledge needed to build a better futu re fo r t hemselves and their communities.

Join us in breaking down barriers for these child ren and creating a comm unity w here every child has t he opportunity to learn and thrive. Head to irff-uk.org or click the link in our bio to learn more!

Sharing with you this heartwarming letter and update from one of our volunteers, Teacher Jesca! B l!r

“We as well had a very good time in Jjungo Primary School, the entire Administration, teachers and Pupils were extremely we managed to give 96 Girls the pads and Knickers.

We trained them on Menstrual reproductive Health, Sanitation and care for the body, Teacher Jesca, Madam Sylvia, Rebecca took on the portions of Personal hygiene and Menstrual reproductive Health and Teacher Jesca and Justine took on the counselling part.

This was a very new development in the school and caused a lot of excitement and boys as well right from PS to P7 were addressed and motivated by Paul Kabanga, assisted by Joel Bukenya and senior Teacher for the boys Mr. Christopher.

this was one of the first ever talk of this nature in the school and the g irls were still not as free as it is in Dest iny and Busabala.

Most of these pupils are living with one parent either a father or mother and like it is in Busabala Primary school the Girls share these pads with the mothers at home, and this is one way of the mothers getting motivated to send the girls in School.”

Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement. Together, we’re making a meaningful difference in t he lives of these children and their communities!

These powerful words from Oprah W infrey remind us of the transformative power of education. It’s not just about acquiring knowledge; it ‘s about opening doors, broadening horizons, and empowering individuals to reach their fu ll potential.

At IRFF UK, we recognise the importance of supporting women and girls, who often face addit ional challenges in accessing education. Through init iatives focused on menstrual health and hygiene, vocational training, and women’s empowerment, we’re ensuring that they have the tools and resources they need to thrive both academically and personally.

Curious how our efforts against period poverty are creating change? Here’s a glim pse into our initiatives in IRFF- U K across Africa:

D Distributing pads to 170 schoolgirls in Port El izabeth, Sout h Africa: Through our partnersh ip with Wa lmer Angels and Walmer Primary School, we ensure consistent distri bution of disposable pads to 170 schoolgirls. Trained medical professionals and teachers provide crucial menstrual health and hyg iene education alongside the pad distribution, empowering girls wit h knowledge and resources.

0 Producing Cheap Reusable Pads in Ghana: Building on our successfu l projects in Ghana, IRFF UK spearheaded the creation of reusable pads at a fraction of the cost of commercial ones. In collaboration with local partners and medica l prof essionals, we dist ributed reusable pads to 570 girls and wo men in 2023, accompanied by vital education on menstrual health and hygiene.

0 Supplying Disposable Pads to Schoolgirls in Uganda: Since 2009, Destiny Junior School in Uganda, built by IRFF UK, has been a beacon of hope. Partnering with Headmistress Jesca, we’ve distributed disposable pads to 180 schoolgirls regularly. Comprehensive menstrual hea lth and hygiene education sessions, led by t rained professiona ls and teachers, ensure these g irls are equipped with essential knowledge.

Together, we’re breaking the cycle of period poverty and empowering g irls to stay in school and pu rsue t heir dreams! ‘9

Help us make a difference! £8 buys sufficient reusable pads for one girl for one year. We currently su pport 200 girls per mont h but the more income we have the more we can support.
