UCT (University of Cape Town) Online.
Following the South African Education Department’s CAPS Curriculum,
they aim to complete high school at a Grade 12 level, the maximum
achievable grade in the South African school system.
This is estimated to take no longer than another 3 years for them to
achieve their Matric Certificate.
History Coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, where poverty abounds and often
only one bread-winner per household, these youngsters were part of a
programme called ‘Artworks for Youth’. This was an American-run Non-Profit-
Organisation, that received substancial funding from the States, through which
they were registered at an upmarket school called Valenture Institute.
In May 2022 the NPO’s founder died and the Valenture Institute closed. The
youngsters were left grieving their mentor and friend, whilst at the same time
coming to grips with moving to a new online school and curriculum.
By September 2022 the funds ran out and Gail Charalambous and Chantal
Bezuidenhout established their own NPO to ensure continued support of these
brave young souls. They approached IRFF UK at this time, and we stepped in to
support their work.
Boot Camp The Slovo Group held a very successful Maths and Science Bootcamp in
November 2022, where they were assisted over two days by tutors and
educators from the local university. They also received one-to-one support
from local university students.

IRFF UK has been providing funds to cover running costs such as:
• data • school stationery • taxi fare • occasional grocery needs
Their biggest need is funding for data, costing them R4,070.00 (around
£175) per month. The remaining expenses add up to an additional
R4,080.00 (£176) per month.
Without our support, these youths would have had to return to the dysfunctional schooling system.

The Slovo Study Group are currently focussing on preparing to run another
boot camp, for which they will need funding to pay for venue, tutors and
Meeting at Mcdonald’s to plan the next boot
With your continued support we
can enable these youths to achieve
their Grade 12 level and have
brighter futures!
