FFWPU Switzerland: Celebration of Blessed couples' 40th anniversary at Vierwaldstätter See

On Saturday 20th August, couples and some of their families met in Luzern to board the steamer Uri. There was a cool breeze and it was raining slightly but spirits were not dampened. We were happy to see each other and enjoy the beautiful trip on Vierwaldstätter See.

The occasion we were celebrating was the 40th anniversary of our marriage Blessing, some of us from 1st July in New York and some from Korea on 14th October in 1982. Two hours went by quickly and we arrived in Brunnen where we made a short walk to the City Hotel Restaurant which was beautifully prepared for our group of 29 people. Between the courses there were songs and testimonies offered. The meal was very tasty and we enjoyed sharing together about our special day 40 years ago and family experiences. Then it was back to the boat and a short hop to Rütli, where we walked up a steep path to the Schwurplatz. Romy shared some Swiss history with us and explained the

significance of this special place. It was where Switzerland “was born”, when 3 cantons came together and pledged allegiance to God and country. It became a place of pilgrimage over the years and still is to this day. We continued further up to the Rütli Wiese, a grassy hill where we prayed and sang Tongil together. It was a precious moment to reflect on our ancestors who established Switzerland on religious principles and to be grateful to them for that foundation. We returned to the boat, the Gallia, also a paddle steamer, and this time the sun appeared to warm us on our sail back to Luzern, where we said goodbye to each other and went our separate ways. It was truly a memorable day. Many thanks to Beat for organizing everything and to all who came to remember this special anniversary.
