The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) expresses concern over the recurring tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda. As some national religious and civil society leaders, as well as some regional and international actors, call for de-escalation, the UPF highlights the urgent need to build trust and cooperation in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa.
UPF welcomes United Nations Security Council Resolution 2773 (2025), which calls for a cessation of hostilities, the withdrawal of foreign forces from eastern DRC, and the opening of humanitarian corridors. We stand with the UN and African Union in promoting and advancing peaceful resolution and an inclusive dialogue for a true reconciliation. UPF also welcomes the recent peace efforts undertaken by the United States of America to address tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
As an NGO in General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), UPF promotes peace rooted in interdependence and shared values. Through its chapters in Rwanda and the DRC, we implement projects in reconciliation, peace education, character education, women’s leadership, and cross-border cooperation. Our initiatives engage political figures, youth leaders, religious leaders, and civil society leaders.
The Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD), a primary association of UPF also affirms its partnership with the African Union’s Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (CIDO). The April 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) confirms shared commitment to interfaith cooperation and sustainable development, aligned with Agenda 2063 and SDGs 16 and 17.
As part of UPF’s 100-Days campaign toward the International Day of Peace, we call on all parties to pursue reconciliation between states and all stakeholders. Now is the time for leaders to rise above grievances, overcome their differences and act with dialogue, dignity, and solidarity.
UPF stands ready to work with all stakeholders to transform conflicts into a dynamic cooperation- for peace, justice, and the future of Central Africa region.
