Victorious Life of Yasuko Greene
Yasuko Takada Greene was born February 10, 1958 in Japan, the youngest of three daughters, to Shigeru and Shigeko Takada. A very conscientious and studious young girl, Yasuko excelled in school, always ranked very high academically in her class, and was a member of her school swim team.
Yasuko’s oldest sister, Fumie, first met the Unification Church in 1974, when Yasuko was 16 years old. Fumie-san, Yasuko’s mother, and Yasuko became members of the Church at that time. Yasuko’s other sister, Nagako, would later also join the Church. All three sisters would eventually participate in the Unification Church Blessing ceremony.
Yasuko attended the prestigious Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and majored in Portuguese. During her college years, she also participated in campus CARP activities. After graduating from college, Yasuko and two other Church members did pioneer witnessing in northern Japan.
In 1982, Yasuko was matched to her husband, Paul Greene, and participated in the July 1, 1982 Blessing Ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City. She moved to America in 1983 and joined the first national MFT fundraising teams. She later worked for a short time with the IOWC providence, and eventually spent several years working in various Church-affiliated Japanese restaurants in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio.
Yasuko and Paul began their married life together in 1989, and moved to upstate NY in 1990 in order for Paul to begin preparation to enter the Unification Theological Seminary. Yasuko spent a short time working on the UTS day care staff, and eventually moved to Tarrytown, New York.
After Paul graduated from UTS, Yasuko and Paul moved to Panama in 1996 to work with the Church in that country and also to help establish Tiempos del Mundo, the Spanish-language subsidiary of the Washington Times published throughout Latin America.
Yasuko and Paul moved back to the United States in 2000 and began living in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area. They were actively involved in various Church activities until Yasuko was was diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer in May, 2010. After a relatively remarkable response to her initial cancer treatment, her cancer went into remission. The cancer began recurring again in January, 2012. After attempting numerous traditional and natural methods of treating the cancer, Yasuko made her transition to the next life on August 23, 2013, with her husband and her three children, Carolyn, Jeroko, and Christina, at her bedside at the moment of her passing.
