FFWPU USA: A Rebirth Experience at CARP Momentum 2023 — Jinil Fleischman

National CARP members experienced a “rebirth” during their annual CARP Momentum leadership retreat. The weeklong program, held Aug. 2 through 7 at IPEC in Las Vegas, featured special guest speaker Rev. Demian Dunkley, FFWPU regional chair and national president.

Rev. Dunkley, who has hosted the Rebirth workshop series around the country since June, shared personal stories and guidance based on his recent experiences with True Mother. “His guidance and testimonies were incredibly powerful and helped the CARP leaders understand the heart and vision of Mother Moon more deeply, providing deep inspiration for our CARP activities this school year,” said National CARP President Jinil Fleischman.

Dr. Ki Hoon Kim, president of Cheon Shim Won USA, also spoke recently about the Rebirth workshop - which includes prayers and devotions at each local Cheon Shim Won hall - stating the experience explores True Mother’s identity as the Only Begotten Daughter.

“This experience is centering on True Mother … bringing her closer to us,” said Dr. Kim. He noted the workshop has also been foundational for True Mother’s upcoming visit to America. “This is really something great that God prepared,” Dr. Kim said. “With this offering, and True Mother coming back [to America], this is a great investment and effort [from] Rev. Dunkley who has given everything and all his energy.”

Every year, the Momentum retreat brings together student leaders from CARP chapters across the country to clarify their goals and vision for the new academic year. The retreat also provides strategic planning, networking, and an opportunity to build greater bonds between chapters. This in turn equips and empowers CARP members with the tools needed to reach their peers at school.

A recent study from Pew Research Center revealed a “snowballing” effect where, decade over decade, fewer young people identify religiously with each subsequent generation in America. The study notes that college graduates who were asked about their religious identity were more likely than others to describe themselves as atheists or agnostics (11% of college graduates versus 4% of U.S. adults with a high school education or less).

“Overall, higher levels of education are linked with lower levels of religious commitment by some measures, such as belief in God, how often people pray, and how important they say religion is to them,” the study reported. “Among all U.S. adults, college graduates are considerably less likely than those who have less education to say religion is ‘very important’ in their lives.”

Though some attribute this change to a cultural shift, and other related factors, it further underscores the importance of CARP’s work on U.S. campuses as members publicly share about the Unification movement’s teachings and True Parents.

“We are very excited for what we can accomplish this school year, centering on Mother Moon and her vision for peace,” said Fleischman.

O n August 2 -7, 2023, National CARP hosted its annual “CARP Mo mentum” leadersh ip re treat, in the International Peace Education Center (IPEC) in Las Vegas, NV. Every year, Mo mentum Year in Review gathers all the student le aders from CARP chapt ers across the nation, in o rder to build momentum fo r the new school year. The pu rpose o f Mom entum is to clarify and unify on a shared natio nal vision for CARP, to allow networking and bui ld in g bonds across chapte rs, and to he lp chapters to make th eir p lans for the school yea r.

This year’s Momentum was special. We had the p rivilege of welcom ing Rev. Demian Dun kley, the reg iona l cha ir and national preside nt of Family Federation for World Peace and Unifica tion (FFWPU), CARP’s parent o rgan ization. Afte r serving in Asia for 2.5 years, Rev. Dunkley was recentl y asked by Mother Moon to lead in Ame rica. In this year’s Mo mentum, Rev. Dunkley hosted a “Rebirth Worksho p “ experience in wh ich he shared intimate sto ries and personal guidance based o n recent experie nces that he has had w ith Mothe r Moon. Rebirth Workshops Ignite Revival of Faith

How has the “Rebirth” workshop inspired you 7

Many Unificationists across the country are sharing how the regional

workshops led by Rev. Demian Dunkley, FFWPU-North America chair and

national president, have deeply moved them in countless ways. Connecting our

faith community with True Mother’s heart and essence has been a primary goal

for Rev. Dunkley, who first initiated the workshop series in June at the Cheon

Shim Won USA headquarters in Las Vegas.

Below are some testimonies of how our community members have

experienced a powerful rebirth in their own lives of faith.

I was struggling a little bit before coming to the workshop, just with faith, and

understanding, and finding my purpose … True Mother’s love is so great, and she

has suffered so much. I didn’t realize [how much] until I got to the workshop … It

was probably a compilation of things that I heard … but I [emerged] with that

feeling, that push and that drive, that I wanted to give back and support True

Parents … That was my rebirth moment. - California

[After] each lecture, I went to the Cheon Shim Won prayer hall and prayed. And

one day [when] I prayed, my tears wouldn’t stop, and I couldn’t pray anymore. I

had no idea what was going on with [me]. I’ve never had something happen like

this. I tried to pray one more time, and I really felt that we need to liberate True

Father and share the truth [about True Parents]. Otherwise, we cannot really

become one with True Mother … [She] really wants to liberate True Father and

she really loves [him]. I really felt True Mother’s 60 years of sacrifice, tears, and

difficulty … I feel hope and God’s dream, and True Mother’s love. I was really

I was surprised - in a good way - and intrigued by some things I heard … I don’t

feel lost or confused. I feel more excited, like a pioneer for what’s new to come

It was an incredible workshop - probably the best I’ve been to in a very long

time … I don’t remember the last time we got to hear so directly from True

Mother and the personal experiences with her [from Rev. Dunkley]. I felt so close

to the providence and so close to Heavenly Parent … I’m so grateful because I

got multiple answers during the workshop. I heard God answering some of my

prayers … God told me, ‘You don’t need to worry.’ Whenever He talks, it’s always

very simple, very kind, and very loving. I’m so glad that I could be reminded that

The Rebirth experience profoundly impacted who I am. The experience … was

truly an unforgettable one … During a unison prayer .. . I prayed with my heart

and tears came to my eyes. I reflected on the fact that nobody on Earth knew the

a surge of great hope well up inside of me. My eyes were crying, but my mouth
