Of the 44 chapters, 41 are on public colleges and 3 are on private colleges.

HUBS CARP hubs consist of multiple chapters in a designated location. Each chapter within the hub may have unique activities, while the hub typically hosts bigger activities for all their chapters. Currently, there are six hubs: Bay Area, DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV), Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and Texas.

LEADERS & MEMBERS As a national staff, we collect data of how many students are involved in CARP. CARP leaders take an active role in the creation of their chapters on their campus. CARP members are active participants who join activities on a regular basis and are growing through CARP’s education.

A) NATIONAL National CARP hosts in-person and online programs to connect and support the local chapters. We also produce many resources to help the chapters grow in their local activities.

LOCAL DIRECTORS’ RETREAT

In April 2022, CARP local directors gathered at Estes Park, Colorado to get clear on CARP’s mission, vision, core values, and organizational structure. While this was happening, CARP’s partner organization Generation Peace Academy (GPA) simultaneously held a retreat in the same location. The majority of CARP’s local directors and GPA’s staff met together for the first time, making history for the two organizations.

WINTER MOMENTUM In the summer of 2021, National CARP had a powerful Momentum retreat. The hope for this national gathering was to bring clarity for the CARP leaders right before heading into the semester.

To bring that energy back, we hosted an online Winter Momentum retreat in the beginning of 2022. Students connected with other leaders throughout the states and shared their challenges and victories. They were also able to hear from Dr. Chung Sik Yong, Continental Director of CARP’s parental organization Family Federation USA, and Mr. Naokimi Ushiroda, President of Family Federation USA.

LOCAL CHAPTER SUPPORT

National CARP Calls Throughout the semesters, National CARP hosted a weekly call for all the chapter leaders. Each week varied from receiving guidance, hearing structural or organizational updates, sharing reports of local chapter activities, and more.

Chapter Visits Visiting local chapters have been key in supporting developing chapters more closely. Throughout the past year, National Chapter Support Coordinator Chungbom Katayama visited six chapters in Washington, Utah, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, and Minnesota.

Swag During Momentum 2021 and for the 2021-2022 school year, all chapters received the “Haebaragi” sunflower t-shirts, designed by CARP Administrator Takayoshi Sugawara.

B) LOCAL CARP thrives because of the local student initiatives. CARP’s key local activities — such as weekly meetings, one-on-one studies, retreats, and more — have grown organically from many years of local development.

CARP MEETINGS Many CARP chapters hold a weekly meeting to engage their new participants into CARP’s core teaching and culture. CARP Talks have been a signature of CARP, but many chapters have taken up their own names such as Delve, Ignite, Ohana Talks, Thrive, Tribe Talks, and many more. They are typically hosted on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Having experienced hosting online events throughout the pandemic, chapters were quick to adapt when COVID-19 cases spiked or when emergency situations arose. Online events have always been a way for people to meet beyond location.

DIVINE PRINCIPLE STUDY SESSIONS Students get to engage in CARP’s core teaching, the Divine Principle, through a more personal, study session. Topics cover many areas such as the purpose of life, the identity of God, the state of the world, the trajectory of human history, and many more. These sessions have been when many students had personal breakthroughs and realizations about their own life.

RETREATS Many chapters host retreats that can vary in length from one day to three weeks. The core of the retreats is to provide a space for participants to study the Divine Principle more deeply, and experience the culture that is created through its application. Experiencing these retreats have been pivotal for many of the participants to continue their involvement and growth with CARP.

Throughout 2021 - 2022, there were over 25 retreats that were hosted across the nation. Some of them were co-hosted amongst chapters in their respective hub, or even beyond.

CAMPUS IMPACT EVENTS CARP aims to impact the society by bringing awareness to topics related to our core values. This is done through different means such as conferences, social media, campaigns, and many more. This past year, these campus impact events and efforts have mainly occurred throughout the spring of 2022.

March 15th, 2022 & May 5th, 2022: CARP Berkeley focused on the topic “For the Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula.” They held two events, one in March and another in May, to raise conversations on the benefits and necessity for the reunification of Korea through presentations by community and students leaders.

CAMPUS IMPACT EVENTS (cont.) Spring 2022: Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and Mother Moon’s emphasis on the unlimited potential of the internet, CARP Las Vegas launched the Tribe Talk podcast series. Similar to their weekly discussion event, they covered various topics such as isolation, self-worth, and building authentic relationships by inviting guest speakers.

April 26th, 2022: CARP Dallas held a campus seminar titled “Love 101: Intro to Lasting Relationships,” in collaboration with guest speaker Derrah Jackson from the Medical Institute for Sexual Health. His presentation demonstrated how optimal sexual health is produced when sex is kept in a committed marriage.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS Another way that CARP makes an impact is through service. Throughout the year, many chapters connected with their local organizations to find opportunities to serve their communities.

Nov. 22nd, 2021: CARP Westminster held a food bank fundraiser by collaborating with Ramen Mobile. Through their efforts, they raised $250 for the Utah Food Bank.

November 22, 2021: For Thanksgiving, CARP Bay Area worked together with many local churches and organizations to distribute boxes of food and Thanksgiving goods to families in the Oakland community.

February 26th, 2022: Later in February 2022, CARP Bay Area collaborated with Service for Peace and High Street Coalition to do a neighborhood trash cleanup and a garden beautification project.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS (cont.) April 22nd, 2022: On Earth Day, CARP Hawai’i supported local Oahu organizations to help pick up trash at Kailua Beach for the safety of the creatures and people.

April 23rd, 2022: CARP Bridgeport worked with the Ruby and Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum in Stratford, Connecticut to create flower beds and beautify the entrance of their museum.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING (ACTIONIZING / CENTER LIFE) A few hubs also held an “actionizing” program to conclude their semester. These programs intend to create a space for continued education where participants can make practical steps toward the core principles and teachings that they have gained from their retreat. This has been done through continued education, practice in presenting the Divine Principle, outreaching, implementing spiritual practices, and many more. This past spring 2022 semester, hubs in the Bay Area, DMV, and Las Vegas held their own actionizing programs.

THANK YOU, JENNIFER! National CARP is immensely grateful to former Communications Coordinator Jennifer Pierce. Her four and a half years of service have been monumental in expanding CARP America’s online presence. In her time, she created CARP’s social media accounts from the ground up and contributed greatly in developing a brand new website. She has created a legacy for CARP to continue to be shared to the world.

NEW STAFF: RYOTA In the beginning of the new year, National CARP welcomed Ryota Naito to the team.

Ryota comes with five years of serving CARP Las Vegas, most prominently as a chapter leader and media director. During that time, he experienced the impact that sharing positive, meaningful content can have on the world. Ryota has a lot to offer to continue growing CARP’s online presence as the new Communications Coordinator.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS Our esteemed Board of Directors supports the organization and works diligently for its sustainability and longevity. Along with offering their personal expertise, 100% of the Board participates in giving to support the National CARP organization.

FINANCIALS For the 2021 calendar year, CARP’s financials were as follows:

Grant Revenue Fundraising Revenue Unrestricted donations collected in 2021 were divided 50% to be used for the 2022 program expenses and 50% toward the national endowment.

Admin $158K+

Expected funding for administrative use was down 50% due to the pandemic, but we were still able to operate and keep a balanced budget. Program expenses were reduced from previous years due to limited in-person activities.

Endowment The purpose of the endowment is for the longevity and sustainability of the organization. $37K+

Despite our decreased budget, we could still contribute more than Added $37K to the endowment.

MOMENTUM 2022 National CARP hosted their annual Momentum leadership retreat from July 25th to the 27th at Barrytown, New York. Momentum gathers CARP leaders from across the nation to connect to the national vision and with each other in preparation for the upcoming school year.

The retreat gathered leaders from at least 24 different states, 93 participants, and 16 CARP staff and local directors. A total of 109 participants and staff joined, making it the largest gathering for Momentum yet!

Dr. Chung Sik Yong, senior advisor to CARP and regional president of CARP’s parent organization, Family Federation USA, visited last year’s Momentum 2021 and shared goals for CARP to reach by 2027:

01. 1,200 CARP Chapters We’re dreaming big! Starting with 50 states, we hope to have 1,200 chapters within the decade.

02. 30,000 CARP Members With those 1,200 chapters, we are aiming for 30,000 CARP members in the United States.

In Momentum 2022, Dr. Yong visited again and came with one additional challenge which CARP leaders have been working to make happen:

01. 120 Student Leaders to Korea by Summer 2023 In preparation for this, National CARP decided to get the ball rolling by declaring to have a national workshop of 40 people in Las Vegas.
