CARP USA Newsletter: Becoming the Person I Was Always Meant to Be

2022-11-18 · Source: tparents.org

Becoming the Person I Was Always Meant to Be Happy November! As the days get closer to Thanksgiving and Giving Tuesday, we would like to share stories of how CARP has made an impact. Meet Maria, CARP Bay Area leader and Aerospace Engineering major at Chabot College!

Despite what she experienced and was taught in her upbringing, CARP allowed her to completely change her outlook on life and love.

“The Divine Principle gave me an outline of what love is and how it’s formed, how true heavenly families are made, and helped me finally get closer to God. I had so much resentment and fear thinking that love included conditions and abuse and that this was a reality I’d just have to accept. But I learned that there is another way and that love is unconditional and ever-growing and definitely does not include any sort of abuse. It impacted my whole view of life; it’s like everyone in CARP handmade a pair of love- glasses and gave them to me.”

Hearing stories like Maria’s reminds us that this is why we do CARP. Sometimes, in the midst of all the hard work, stress, putting together events, we can forget that it may be those very moments where lives are being transformed.

If you would like to make a contribution to support students like Maria, consider donating to our end of the year campaign. All proceeds will go to the growth of our students and chapters.

As always, thank you for your support!

Before I met CARP BaY. Area, I was lost and had no sense o f what love truly is . I grew up in a very abusive/toxic ho useho ld. My pa re nts got d ivorced when I w as six years old a nd I have been receiv ing therapy since then. I spent my early years surv iv ing and keeping myself in a Archive bubble fo r my o wn saf ety. Desp ite this, I always t ri ed to find a way out and stayed strong and resilie nt and utilized all t he resources at my schools th ro ugh a specialized ed ucation progra m. I was basical ly raised by my sisters, counselors/therapists at schoo l, and case managers. I By Month

k new in my hea rt that t he re was a Heavenly Pa rent because afte r my d ad separated from my mom, he would ta ke me to church; however, I was still hesitant, hurt, and very far from Him .

When I started col lege, I met Younng Joo Scharf and Karen lshiguro and they introduced me to Year in Review what CARP stands for and inv ited me to atten d club meetings, Ig nit es and Un ification Principle Semina rs. All t he lectures just connected to me in a way th at my church fro m my childhood never d id. Whe n I fi rst hea rd about the Fall (Chapt er 2 of t he Div in e Prin ciQle), so many dots conn ected for me. I analyzed all the re lat ionships I g rew up w it h, espec ially my parents’. The D iv ine Principle gave me an outline o f what love is and how it’s fo rm ed, how true heavenly fami lies are mad e, and he lped me final ly get c loser t o God. I had so much resent me nt and fea r thinkin g th at love includ ed conditio ns and ab use and th at this was a rea lity I’d j ust have to accept. But I learned t hat there is another way a nd th at love is uncond itio nal and ever-g rowing and definit e ly does not include any sort of abuse. It impacted my w ho le view of lif e; it’s like everyone in CARP ha ndmade a pa ir of love-g lasses and gave them to me.

International Trips

N ow, I’m liv ing in t he CARP house and learn ing a lot more a bout the Div ine Princ iple. I’m chang ing the t rajectory o f my li ne age by healing all the gene rational t ra umas passed o nto me and breaking the chain of pa in and menta l he alth illnesses w ithin my fam ily. I’m learning how to matu re and heal myse lf. In my fi rst CARP club meeting , everyone ca me up and g reeted me and hugged me and p hysical touch scared th e heck o ut of me!! I d id not understan d it. But now I’m hugging my sisters and learn ing how to love and be loved. Fro m taking o n small lead ership ro les here and the re in se minars/retreats, to continuing to liste n to lectures and hav ing mean ingfu l conversations w ith my CARP b rothers and sisters-I am slowly becom ing t he person I’ve always want ed to be, th e st able adu lt I’ve always lo nged to be, and growing t o be the lovin g, caregiv ing da ug hte r of God I was always meant to be.
