WFWP's Bay Area Chapter held its 14th annual Benefit for the Schools of Africa

The Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Bay Area Chapter held its 14th annual Benefit for the Schools of Africa on October 29 at the Bay Area Family Church. More than 50 people gathered to celebrate and support the schools founded by WFWP in seven African nations.

The program included a performance of the “Waka Waka” dance by some young supporters as well as wonderful African music performed by Pope Flyne, a master drummer, keyboardist, and composer from Ghana. Mr. Flyne had everyone singing and tapping their hands and feet to his fantastic African rhythms.

Mrs. Folarinda Harrison, a retired teacher, educator and author originally from Ghana was our main speaker. She spoke about the importance of education in Africa and especially the importance of educating girls. She emphasized that when mothers are educated they are better mothers and understand the importance of supporting their children’s education. Mrs. Harrison personally offers financial support for the education of several girls in Ghana. After watching the WFWP video about the Schools of Africa, Mrs. Harrison commented, “I absolutely have to join this organization. I want to take my small fire and join your big fire.”

The program also included a silent auction that was generously supported by the attendees, and wonderful refreshments made by WFWP volunteers.
