We invite you to join us tomorrow (May 21) for the sixth session in our series titled: “The Unity of Science, Spirituality and Religion.” Our presenter will be Ms. Alison Wakelin. Ms. Wakelin’s career has been devoted to teaching physics and astronomy, primarily at Widener University in Delaware.

Summary: Following challenges to Newton’s mechanistic model of the universe, the early twentieth century offered the possibility of a new perspective via Quantum Mechanics and Relativity. However, physics turned to an instrumental approach rather than understanding the deeper implications of the new theories. The primary concern became the prediction of the outcome of experiments rather than incorporating purpose, meaning and consciousness. This talk will examines the various paths taken by scientists to find a holistic perspective to complement the reductionist model, and asks if Unification principles offer a path toward incorporating a wider model of reality.

Presenter Ms. Alison Wakelin Alison Wakelin is a member of the teaching faculty at Widener University in Chester, PA. She taught physics and astronomy for ten years on U.S. Army bases in Korea and a further twenty years in the U.S. She has an MA in Astrophysics from Princeton University, Part III of the Math Tripos from Cambridge University (England), plus a Masters in Religious Education from Unification Theological Seminary. While in Korea Ms. Wakelin presented her perspective science at the Unification Thought Institute. She lives in Delaware and has two daughters.
