“The opportunity was again provided for people to see the amazing, and very moving, life-story of Malala Yousafzai, describing her journey from childhood and school in the famous Swat Valley, in northwest Pakistan, to becoming one of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Detailing the tragic shooting in her school bus by a member of the Taliban, rehabilitation in Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and her family and school life in a new country.

Around 50 people attended the evening programme, watching the film and joining in a discussion afterwards about children’s rights, the lack of educational opportunities for children, especially girls, in various parts of the world, and other related issues.

We concluded with one or two songs, offered by members of the audience, networking and then enjoying refreshments together. Some of the refreshments were provided by ladies attending the evening, including one beautiful ‘fruit-basket’ created out of an enormous watermelon!
