IRFF UK: Help Us Protect the Children at Destiny Junior School in Kibiri, Uganda

2020-05-15 · Source: tparents.org

An important project of IRFF UK really needs your help!

Your support will enable us to channel your desire to help others in need, particularly to the poor and vulnerable in developing countries of Africa.

Perimeter Wall at Destiny Junior School

One of IRFF’s flagship projects is Destiny Junior School in Kibiri, Uganda. The school was started back in 2009 with one teacher and a handful of children. Today, the school runs 8 classes (from nursery to Primary 7), has 120 pupils, nine teachers and two non-teaching staff. In addition to building the classrooms, library and school office, IRFF UK (with support from its donors, The Tricycle Shop in Alton, and a little help from the Rotary Club and the local Government) has been able to construct a bore hole (for water used by the school and the local community), purchase a large water tank, build a modern latrine for boys and girls, set up a play station for the children, and quite recently, purchase the neighbour’s land in order to house some of the teachers!!

Since 2018, Kibiri has fallen into the District of Kampala which means that the local municipality now dictates certain aspects of running the school. Building the new latrine was one stipulation; more recently, an important issue has been brought to the attention of IRFF UK…

The school requires a Perimeter Wall to protect the children, staff and school property!

After a lot of research and discussion, a decision was made in regard to the new wall, based on costs and longevity. The 9 foot clay brick perimeter wall with cost an estimated £10,500, and will be built over 4 phases, taking approx. 8 months to complete.

IRFF UK has given the OK to start building the wall with an initial grant of £2,500. Now, we need to raise the balance – £8,000. The local Government cannot support us with this project! An update of the work done so far is attached for you.

Please help us protect the children, staff and school!!

Help us protect the children at Destiny Junior School!! The Background: Since 2008, IRFF UK has been building and developing Destiny Junior School for underprivileged children in Kibiri, Uganda. Starting with 20-30 pupils, the school now has 120 attendees, with 9 teachers and 2 non- teaching staff! The school is proud to run 8 classes, from Nursery to Primary 7; has a large water tank, a bore hole, a new kitchen, office and library thanks to support from IRFF UK.

In 2019, the District Council advised the school that it was necessary to build a perimeter wall in order to protect the children, staff and school property!!

What’s been achieved so far! The work of building the wall began in March 2020 with funding of £2,500 from IRFF UK. However, because of the coronavirus outbreak, the next phases have been halted until more funds are raised!!

A quarter of the Perimeter Wall is completed! We would now like to finish the task!!

Our Appeal In order to fully protect the children and school, we require a further £8,000 to finish the wall project. The lockdown is coming to an end in Uganda, so the work to complete it can begin again fairly soon…
