Introduction Divine Principle and Martin Buber v 1

Austrian-born Israeli Jewish philosopher best known for his philosophy of dialogue, a form of existentialism centered on the distinction between the I–Thou relationship and the I–It relationship.

I and Thou – Martin Buber

In “I and Thou,” Buber describes two kinds of relationships, the “I-It”, and the “I-Thou”. The I-It relationship is one based on detachment from others and involves a utilitarian approach, in which one uses another as an object.

In contrast, in an I-Thou relationship, each person fully and equally turns toward the other with openness and ethical engagement. This kind of relationship is characterized by dialogue and by “total presentness.” In an I-Thou relationship, each participant is concerned for the other person. The honor of the other–and not just her usefulness–is of paramount importance.

The ethical response of the I-Thou relationship is central to Buber’s understanding of God.

For Buber, God is the “Eternal Thou.” God is the only Thou which can never become an It. In other words, while relationships with other people will inevitably have utilitarian elements, in a genuine relationship with God, God cannot be used as a means towards an end.

In addition, according to Buber, our relationship with God serves as the foundation for our I-Thou relationships with all others, and every I-Thou relationship–be it with a person or thing–involves a meeting with God.

God, in a sense, is the unifying context, the meeting place, for all meaningful human experience.

According to Buber, one encounters God through one’s encounters with other human beings and the world. “Meet the world with the fullness of your being and you shall meet God.”

While serving in Africa, Albert Schweitzer continued to write books and letters. Through his letters he maintained a network of influential friends and supporters in Europe and America. For example, over the years, he maintained an extensive correspondence with Martin Buber, Albert Einstein, Bertrand Russell, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and many other influential leaders and intellectuals.

Sun Myung Moons Divine Principle

Give and Take Action, Give and Take Action, and the Four Position Foundation and the Four Position Foundation In the created universe, the dual characteristics that make up each being are empowered by universal prime energy to establish a common base. They then engage in give and take action. Based on the forces generated by this give and take action, the dual characteristics construct a foundation for their continued reciprocation. This becomes the foundation for the existence of each individual being, upon which the being becomes an object partner to God and is able to generate all forces necessary for its continued existence.

The human body maintains its life through the give and take actions between arteries and veins, inhalation and exhalation, sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves, and so forth. The give and take action between mind and body enables an individual to carry out activities which further the purpose of life.

The give and take actions between husband and wife in a family, among people in a society, between the government and citizens in a nation, and among the nations of the world are essential for them to live together in harmony and peace.

Christianity is a religion of love. It strives through love and sacrifice to open the path to restore the horizontal relationships of give and receive between people in the love of Christ.

On this horizontal foundation of love, the way is opened to restore our vertical relationship of give and take with God.

In truth, this was the main purpose of all the teachings and deeds of Jesus.

The Three Great Kingships are vertically-oriented.

(1) Children’s kingship: children represent the future.

(2) Parents’ kingship: parents represent the present.

(3) Grandparents’ kingship: grandparents represent the past, spiritual world and God.

B. The Four (Five) Great Heart Realms are horizontal.

5. GP: Grand-Parental Heart Realm: Grand-Parental love between Grandparents and grandchildren.

Through vertical unity with their parents, children can be helpful for God’s love, parental love, conjugal love, and brotherly-sisterly love.

To let children have concern for an dialogue with things, people and issues greater than themselves.

To let them treat others’ (things, people, issues) as their own.

To let children understand that they are the foundation of the family.

2. For brothers and sisters

To totally explain parental love, conjugal love and children’s love.

To let them embrace all human beings as their own brothers and sisters.

To let them understand that they are the representatives of the entire horizontal world.

To let them cherish the life of giving and the life for the sake of others (the more they give, the more they nicely grow).

To let them horizontally grow and prepare to be the spouse of another.

3. For husband and wife

To let them understand that conjugal love is the second stage of three kings of love: children’s love conjugal love parental love (the three cannot be practiced separately but must be linked together).

A couple is the total virtue of heaven and earth, which means the unity of east and west, south and north, up and down, front and back.

By total harmonization with God’s vertical love, a couple becomes the terminal of vertical love, and then the couple can occupy the parental position representing God.

4. For Parents

Parental love means the completion of the ideal kingdom on earth by combining children’s love, brotherly-sisterly love, conjugal love and by then becoming second creators, and by multiplying children.

By expanding the ideal family on earth, parents become vertically the first ancestors, and by accomplishing their responsibility they can establish kingship.

By the total virtue of heaven and earth, kingship on earth and in heaven can be accomplished.

Grandparents Love Fathers/Mothers Love

Husbands/Wives Love

Brothers/Sisters Love God - origin- Parents - division- Sons/Daughters Love Family - union action Grandchildrens Love We could add the vertical Kingships between Grandparents and Grandchildren. Almost all people without exception sais the greatest love they experienced is as being Grandparents or grandchildren!

No matter how devout a believer may be, he cannot attain physical salvation through redemption by the cross of Jesus.

His original sin, which has been passed down through the lineage from Adam, is not eliminated at its root.

Even the most devout Christian still has the original sin and gives birth to children who also carry the original sin.

In our personal faith, we may feel it necessary to mortify and deny our flesh in our efforts to prevent the intrusion of Satan, who continually tries to ensnare us through our bodies.

We are taught to “pray constantly” (I Thess. 5:17) that we might remove the conditions by which Satan can attack us; these conditions stem from the original sin, which was not eradicated despite salvation through redemption by the cross.

Jesus could not fulfill the goal of complete salvation, both spiritual and physical, because his body was struck down by Satan.

However, Jesus laid the basis for spiritual salvation by securing the victorious foundation for his resurrection through the redemption by his blood on the cross. As a result, all believers since his resurrection have received the benefit of spiritual salvation, but not physical salvation.

Salvation through redemption by the cross is spiritual salvation only. The original sin remains active in the flesh of even the most devout Christians and is transmitted through the lineage to their descendants.

The more fervent a believer’s faith, the more fiercely he must fight against the sin within.

We who receive salvation based on Jesus’ crucifixion cannot unshackle ourselves from the chains of sin, due to the original sin still active deep within us.

Therefore, to uproot the original sin, which he could not remove through the crucifixion, and to complete the work of physical salvation, Jesus must come again on earth.

Only then will the purpose of God’s work of salvation be fulfilled both spiritually and physically.
