The Current Situation: Chung Hwan Kwak’s and Hyun Jin Nim’s Positions in Light of the Principle

■ Introduction: True Parents’ Viewpoint of the Current Situation 1. Unprecedented challenges to our True Parents have occurred within our movement over the last 24 months, centering on Rev. Kwak and Hyun Jin Nim, as we approach the historic completion of Cheon il Guk on January 13, 2013.

2. Chung Hwan Kwak’s family and Hyun Jin nim took control of UCI and key areas of the providence, including the Washington Times in 2009. (The WT recently came back to True Parents; now, True World Foods is undergoing trials)

3. During this time, Rev. Kwak and Hyun Jin nim have repeatedly disobeyed True Parents’ wishes and directions, and the will of the worldwide Unification Movement has been ignored.

4. The continued disobedience and defiance of True Parents’ instructions has included the carrying out of GPF events in Nepal, Korea, Indonesia, Paraguay and in Kenya.

5. True Parents have directed that the current situation must be explained and understood from a principled and providential perspective. They have given that responsibility to True Children and to all church leaders worldwide.

■ Hyung Jin Nim’s Guidance to World Church Leadership (10/15/10) 1. According to Father, Chung Hwan Kwak, in the position of fallen Lucifer, has betrayed True Parents and is controlling Hyun Jin Nim, who is in the position of fallen Adam.

2. True Parents are in pain, having invested so much in Rev. Kwak. They are undergoing God’s situation at the time of the Fall, where Lucifer betrayed God at the last moment.

3. Rev. Kwak has been influencing Hyun Jin Nim to leave and betray True Parents and go toward his family. Rev. Kwak’s family members are involved in this as well.

4. If we truly love Hyun Jin Nim and want him to return to True Parents, we must speak up and testify about what is going on at this final moment of history.

5. The last providence before the establishment of Cheon il Guk is the protection of God and True Parents’ eternal position. True Parents have asked that this education be given.

6. It is our duty to speak out on behalf of True Parents and True Family. As their representatives, we should stand on the front line and protect True Parents.

7. Each of us must choose whether we will follow God and True Parents or Rev. Kwak, Hyun Jin nim and Rev. Kwak’s family. “Choose you this day whom you will serve.” (Josh 24:15)

■ The Role of the Archangel, the Fall of the Archangel and Fallen Nature 1. The Role of the Archangel : to assist Adam and Eve so that they can mature and perfect themselves in God’s love.

2. The Fall of the Archangel: the Archangel Lucifer betrayed God, coveted God’s position, induced Adam and Eve to Fall and then dominated them.

3. The Human Fall: Adam and Eve created a four-position foundation centered upon Satan instead of God, thus creating a world under Satan’s dominion.

4. Fallen Nature : all the tendencies incidental to the Archangel’s transgression against God when he induced Eve to fall. Adam acquired fallen nature from Eve who in turn had inherited it from the Archangel. This is the root cause of the fallen inclinations in all people:

1) Failing to take God’s standpoint in loving Adam. 2) Leaving one’s proper position. (Lucifer desired to enjoy the same position of love in the human world as he had in the angelic world.) 3) Reversing dominion. (The angel, who was supposed to come under the dominion of human beings, instead came to dominate human beings.) 4) Multiplying the criminal act. 5) Shifting the blame toward others (away from oneself).

■ Chung Hwan Kwak’s Actions: Direct Manifestation of Fallen Nature

1) In the position of Archangel, he has failed to love the True Children (including, and especially, Hyun Jin nim) as God and True Parents do.

2) In the position of the Archangel, he should have upheld the will of God and True Parents and assisted Hyun Jin nim. Instead he attempted to assert his position as International President upon True Parents and other members of the True Family. Arrogantly believing that he is in the subject position, in regard to God’s providence, he is using and dominating Hyun Jin nim.

3) Though he is in the position to be under God and True Parents’ dominion, he has rejected True Parents’ instructions, has taken control of UCI and continues to dominate Hyun Jin nim as Fallen Lucifer dominated Fallen Adam.

■ Chung Hwan Kwak’s Actions : Direct Manifestation of Fallen Nature

4) When Rev. Kwak was managing the Tongil Group, he deceived True Parents and was the cause of many problems that arose in relation to public money and assets. He induced Hyun Jin nim to commit the same crimes (having Hyun Jin nim take all the legal responsibility) and he attempts to justify these acts. This has resulted in the UCI incident, The Washington Times incident , the Yeoido incident, etc.

5) All these consequences have arisen due to Rev. Kwak’s own mistakes and his unwillingness to repent before God and True Parents. Yet, he is shifting the blame for what has occurred to True Parents, Hyung Jin nim and Kook Jin nim.

■ Conclusions

1) Hyun Jin nim (through his own actions) has placed himself in a position where it is very difficult to return to God and True Parents. Nevertheless, he will return and be victorious. When he does repent to True Parents and return, he will be unable to stand in a public position for a certain period (e.g., one year; determined by True Parents).

2) On the other hand, Chung Hwan Kwak and his family members are seemingly making preparations NOT to return to True Parents. This can be seen in his involvement in the management of UCI, Yeoido, Central City and other companies and organizations where he or his family members were appointed to the boards or management of these entities. (Jin Man Kwak’s recent activities in Mongolia verify this as well.) (Note: in spite of all that has taken place, True Parents continue to reach out to Hyun Jin Nim and to Rev. Kwak [and his family members], hoping that they will humble themselves and repent and return to God’s Will. This has always been their hope and prayer. )

■ Conclusions 3) Chung Hwan Kwak went against True Parents’ wishes and took control of UCI, has taken away one of the True Children (Hyun Jin nim), and is now trying to take away the leaders and members of the Unification Church (all of which belong to God and True Parents). 4) Chung Hwan Kwak has sent a subpoena to Kook Jin nim and Hyung Jin nim through UCI, and may even be preparing to send a subpoena to True Parents. This is NOT the work of God or of someone who is united in heart with True Parents.

Our mission at this time: All leaders and members of the Unification Church should now take a stand to protect True Parents, True Children and the Unification Church.

■ True Parents’ Messiahship from a Providential Viewpoint: True Parents are in God’s Position

1) As stated in the Divine Principle, True Parents’ lifestyle and life course are the providence for resolving and paying indemnity for all the problems that arose in the providence (horizontal restoration through indemnity, carried out vertically).

2) In the Garden of Eden there was God, Adam and Eve and the Archangel. After the Fall of the Archangel and man, there was God and Satan and Fallen Adam and Eve. Two-thousand years ago, God sent Jesus to restore God’s children. Jesus was to pay indemnity for the failure of fallen Adam and realize God’s will. However, he was driven to the cross and only completed the providence for spiritual salvation. Although He was unable to completely fulfill the providential will, compared to fallen Adam, he advanced the providence in an Abel-type position. (Unity of Cain and Abel has been central point)

3) Two thousand years later, God sent the Lord of the Second Advent so that he may complete the providence. Now is the time for the Four Great Saints, the Christian foundation (centering on Jesus) and the foundation of the Lord of the Second Advent (including his family and all blessed families) to become one in perfecting Cheon Il Guk.

4) From this providential viewpoint, at King Garden in Hawaii, on April 6, 2008, on the occasion of the 49th True Parents’ Day, True Father had Hyun Jin nim stand in the position of Cain and Kook Jin nim stand in the position of Abel and gave them the direction to unite centering on True Mother. 4) From this providential viewpoint, at King Garden in Hawaii, on April 6, 2008, on the occasion of the 49th True Parents’ Day, True Parents had Hyun Jin nim stand in the position of Cain and Kook Jin nim stand in the position of Abel and gave them the direction to unite centering on True Mother. Later, True Parents entrusted Hyung Jin nim with the responsibility of the worldwide Unification Movement and instructed Kook Jin Nim to unite with him.

■ In Summary: What we understand in light of the Providence and the Principle

1) Kook Jin nim and Hyung Jin nim, with absolute faith, love and obedience to True Parents, are working together to complete the providence, including rectifying the wrongs of Chung Hwan Kwak (fallen angel position) and Hyun Jin Nim (fallen Adam postion).

2) Members of True Parents’ family are following the providential course, paying indemnity for our sins. As they address and resolve each problem we can once more confirm the value of True Parents, the substantial God, and the need to offer devotion and actively engage in addressing such problems ourselves.

■ In Summary: What we understand in light of the Providence and the Principle 3) Ham’s failure in the providence of restoration: Ham attempted to conceal the facts and felt shame about the providence. Keeping silent regarding the involvement of a True Child and a once respected elder will not resolve the issue or protect True Parents, True Family and our movement. (True Parents want to shine the light of truth on this.) 4) Therefore, we should not be silent or attempt to conceal the present circumstances. Rather, we must ensure that our brothers and sisters do not wrongly judge based on false information, recklessly disseminated by UCI. We should all have an accurate picture of the situation, explained from a principled and providential point of view.

What is needed in this final period before the establishment of Cheon il Guk: EDUCATION from a principled viewpoint, centered on True Parents ACTION in speaking out, standing up for and protecting our True Parents, following the example of True Children.

What is UCI?  UCI is the acronym for “Unification Church International”  Established on February 2, 1977 according to True Parents’ instructions.  It has overseen and supported providential organizations and companies in the US and South America, and providential organizations in Korea and Japan.

1. Incidents involving UCI 1)May 2009 ‐ Mr. Dong Moon Joo learns for the first time that the UCI board was reduced to five members. True Parents name two people whom they recommend as additional members of the UCI board but this was not followed. 2)July 9, 2009 ‐ Mr. Joo and Mr. Peter Kim call a board meeting to have the two persons recommended by True Parents added to the board. The other three members of the board don’t join the conference call. Mr. Joo and Mr. Kim are left without a quorum. 3)July 31, 2009 ‐ Hyun‐jin nim calls a special board meeting for August 2, and UCI counsel Dan Gray sends the notice. No purpose is given. Mr. Gray says he does not know the purpose. 4)August 2, 2009 ‐ Hyun‐jin nim at the special meeting calls for the removal first of Mr. Kim, which passes, and then for the removal of Mr. Joo, which passes.

Board now has just three members ‐‐‐ Hyun‐jin nim, Mr. Sommer and Mr. Perea.

1. Incidents involving UCI 1) Since its inception on February 2, 1977, never has the UCI Board been changed without True Parents’ instructions.

2) UCI bylaws state “The Directors recognize and acknowledge that the Reverend Sun Myung Moon has provided the inspiration and spiritual leadership for the founding of the Corporation and is the spiritual leader of the international Unification Church movement.” This shows that True Parents have the authority over personnel decisions in UCI.

3) Amendments made on February 5, 1980 to the Unification Church International bylaws Article 3 (1) clearly indicates the focus of UCI activities as stated below.

“To serve as an international organization assisting, advising, coordinating, and guiding the activities of Unification Churches organized and operated throughout the world.”

UCI is an international organization that supports and advises the activities of the Unification Church worldwide. Yet, the recent activities and personnel changes in UCI go against True Parents’ directions and do not comply with UCI’s founding purposes.

1. Incidents involving UCI – Amendments of Bylaws

1) April 14, 2010 - The UCI board approved amendments to UCI’s articles, to change the name from “Unification Church International” to “UCI.” It revise its 1980 purposes so as to remove all references to support for Unification Churches worldwide, and all references to the advancing of Divine Principle. 2) The only reference to Unification in the newly amended UCI purposes is with regard to advancing the teachings of the Unification Movement. But UCI purposes do not include advancing or supporting the Unification Movement itself. Also, upon dissolution, UCI can donate assets to foreign corporations having similar purposes.

1. Incidents involving UCI – Replacing the Board

1) April 27, 2010 - The certificate amending UCI’s name and purposes is signed April 27, 2010 by Hyun-jin nim as UCI president and by Daniel Gray as UCI secretary.

2. Disobeying True Parents’ Words 1) March 8, 2009 - True Parents gathered the True Children, including Hyun-jin nim, at Sokcho, Korea. In the presence of some 400 members, they instruct Hyun-jin nim to step down from all public positions and further study the Principle at True Parents’ side. However, Hyun-jin nim does not obey these instructions. 2) June 1, 2009 - During a meeting on the third floor of Cheongpyeong Heaven and Earth Training Center on June 1, 2009, True Parents’ appoints Rev. Kihoon Kim to replace Hyun-jin nim as UCI chairman. The heads of providential organizations in Korea and Chunghwan Kwak are also present in this meeting. Later, Rev. Kihoon Kim goes to Montana, USA to convey True Parents’ instructions to Hyun-jin nim, but Hyun-jin nim states that he cannot accept the appointment, thus disobeying True Parents’ instructions. 3) Sept. 10, 2009 - Hyun-jin nim visits True Parents who in western USA. True Parents instruct Hyun-jin nim to restore the UCI board; Hyun-jin nim verbally promises to do so, but in the end does not carry out these instructions. 4) A series of incidents are triggered due to UCI’s involvement

3. Incidents in Paraguay

1) At the end of 2008 UCI representative Thomas Field prepares a board resolution to transfer land property belonging to HSA‐UWC Paraguay to four for‐profit entities. The transfer for most of these properties has been completed. Thus, Pyungrae Moon, the national messiah (BBW), national leader and key members of Paraguay have protested against this transfer and are seeking to invalidate the transactions.

2) Fabricated rumors concerning a riot that arose in Paraguay in early August of 2009 are disseminated in Korean, Japanese and English. (However, this rumor was later proven to be false by Rev. Dongmo Shin who was instructed by True Parents to go to the site.)

4. Sunday Service Incident at Brazil Church

1) On May 30, 2010 in Brazil, an unfortunate incident occurred, where Rev. Dong Mo Shin, the regional president of South America, who was giving a sermon and Rev. Simão Ferabolli, the president of the Brazil Church was forced off the stage; Hyun‐jin nim later took the microphone and began to talk.

2) True Parents gave instructions that Hyun‐jin nim should not engage in public activities until True Parents’ give further instructions. After this incident, True Parents instructed that Hyun‐jin nim should not speak at the church podium on an official setting.

II. Issues Surrounding UCI

5. GPF held in mission nations Caused confusion and conflict among members in the mission 1) Mid‐December 2009, GPF (GPLC) Rally in the Philippines ‐ True Parents had field renamed GPF as GPHA and instructed that it be carried out under the UPF. These instructions were not followed and GPF was held. 2) Early April 2010, Nepal Rally – True Parents gave instructions to hold an Original Divine Principle Education centering on Regional President and National Leader. Severe conflict occurred which did not lead to physical collision. 3) Mid‐February 2010, Kenya Rally – Preparations and outreach activities for GPF were held in the absence of the regional president. 1) UCI has legal control over Central City, Ilsung Constructions and Yeoui‐do land in Korea. 2) Early January 2010, Sun‐jin nim is notified she is no longer a board member of UCI‐ controlled Central City, a major shopping and transportation hub in Seoul. Jin Hyo Kwak, Rev. Chung Hwan Kwak’s second son, was appointed to the board in her place.

November 17, 2010, Money Today Yeoui‐do land, World Mission Headquarters Parc1, a 2.3 trillion won multi‐story complex development project on Yeoui‐do Seoul is on the verge of collapse. The project was to construct buildings based on a 99‐year long‐term lease on the land. However, the Unification Church Foundation which promised the lease has changed its mind and filed a suit to terminate the contract.

According to Skylan Group, a multinational real estate developer and developer of Parc1 project, the Foundation Support the Holy Spirits Association for the Unification of World Christianity (Unification Church Foundation) filed a suit for “cancelling superficies rights registration” at the Seoul Central District Court against Y22, a special‐purpose company established for the Parc1 project, and fourteen other financial institutions.

Earlier in May 2005, Y22 Project Financing Investment Co. and the Unification Church Foundation entered into a contract assigning the superficies rights of the Yeoui‐do land (which was the Unification Parking Lot at that time) for 99‐years. Three‐years after approval of use after the completion of the buildings, it was to pay 5% of the officially announced real estate price each year for use of the land. However, five years after this contract, and with 25% of the constructions complete, this legal dispute has suddenly arisen on whether to lend the land.

Parc1 Project Overview The Unification Church Foundation claim “the action of assigning superficies rights in relation to a basic asset of the Foundation without the approval of the competent authorities, the Ministry of Developer Skylan Development Culture and Tourism, is void.” However, the “truth” of why the Foundation has changed stances is Builder Samsung C&T not known. Area 46,465 m2 Building Structure Office Tower 1 (72 story) Should the project collapse due to this dispute, the “aftermath” will be devastating. Already one 72‐ story building (Office Tower 1) was to be acquired by MacParc1 for 890 billion won and the other 53‐ Office Tower 2 (56 story) story building was to be acquired by the Mirae Asset Real Estate Fund for 804.7 billion won. Shopping Mall (total floor space 180,000 m2 This project of building two office buildings, commercial facilities and hotel on 46,465 m2 of land on Hotel (total floor space 57,800 Yeoui‐do is overseen by Skylan. Skylan is in charge of design, constructions, lease and overall m2 development operations of Parc1. It also was to be in charge of operations after the completion of Project Costs 2.3 trillion won constructions. Samsung C&T is in charge of the constructions.
