Giving Purpose to Our Programs

2012-02-03 · Source: tparents.org

We have this relationship starting with a church a bit further out in West London: Cornerstone Prayer Ministry. A few of our members have been to their service, and some of their staff have come to our Divine Principle one day seminar. I went along to their Tuesday bible study and prayer meeting in one of their homes near Heathrow’s terminal 4. They asked me to share a message and then we prayed together for about 90 minutes. Haven’t done that for a while!

Anyhow, they have asked us to bring our band to their service and we have been planning the visit. We decided we will encourage those from our congregation who are interested to come along. We made a goal that we would like to bring about 20 people not including the band.

Being intentional about our team work, and what we want to achieve together

The visit will have purpose. We will not just go along for the sake of it, with some vague notion of collaborating or witnessing about True Parents or sharing the message of the Principle.

We want it to be an educational experience, for each of us who take part- a teachable moment. We do not want to try and pre determine where the relationship goes, but we do want it to be authentic, and personal, and one through which we experience God’s holy spirit.

At least we know that they have qualities and a tradition that many of us can learn from. There is a spiritual fire in many African church communities that allows them to experience the power of God’s spirit in a way that we perhaps miss sometimes.

There are things we can offer to them too, and they have already asked us to bring our music to their worship. But again we want that to be a process of spiritual growth, by investing ourselves into how we share, so that it becomes an offering on God’s altar.

I am interested to discover something about where our hearts are, how much we genuinely want to build a fellowship with one another, whether it is practical considering the cultural differences, and how much we are able to honour one another, as people striving to build a kingdom for God on his earth.

‘To discover our divinity & purpose by living an abundant life through loving service’

So we plan to document our visit, and to post up our experiences and reflections, in order that we may be accountable to our 43LG community mission statement:

To discover our divinity & purpose by living an abundant life through loving service.
