Intermittent rainfall didn’t slow down the festivities at the Compton’s Spring BBQ held Saturday evening at their recently renovated home in Henderson. Bringing together neighbors and friends, thirty guests came-- four member and four non-member families altogether. Rev. Doo offered an opening prayer and we lined up to eat. Delicious hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken were grilled by Andy and our neighbor Alex. Lydia made potato salad and bought a chocolate cake. Adela---Alex’s mother (who is Lydia’s new friend) made Flan. Cookies, salad, chips and sodas were brought by others of the guests and everyone ate to their heart’s content!
Between showers the children and teens enjoyed ping pong and everyone enjoyed guessing the number of beans in a pitcher and the combined weight of two rocks that Andy had found on the top of nearby mountains. Small bags of chocolates were given as prizes to the under 12 and over 12 winners.
During a break between rain showers, we took a group photo. After dinner, Karaoke began indoors. Ted Igarashi brought the equipment, beautifully sang a few of his favorite Japanese songs and guided the joyful exchange of musical talent. Several of the guests and members sang and some even danced to the music! The final song, a lively rendition of “Guantanamera” was sung by all, creating a warm bond of heart. Everyone left feeling that they had just experienced a taste of what life is supposed to be like, with joy and harmony and friendly conversation all evening long.
The BBQ ended in prayer.
