In this week’s news letter I would like to talk about increasing the membership of our church.
There are several crucial ingredients that are needed in order to gain members. I would like to mention 4 of them
1) Internal Conditions
We need the support of heaven. (True Father said that 40% of success in witnessing comes from spiritual support) The condition I would recommend is daily hoondokae. Reading True Father’s words, combined with reflection, discussion, and prayer, puts us directly in line with our True Father’s heart and will.
2) Engage with people:
We need to meet people and convey to them the basic vision of our True Parents. This could be done in friendly conversation, or if that is hard for you, we are committed to providing an event each month (such as the Japanese cultural event in March) to which you can easily invite guests – and where they will hear a inspiring introduction to the vision of Father and Mother Moon.
3) Consistent personal care and love for our guests.
This used to happen through 7-Day, 21-Day, and 40-Day seminars. Now that needs to happen through Small Groups: Small groups are needed (for more details on this please view Rev Kazakos’ video at: youtu.be/l0gnKxHKZQ0
I want to ask all existing small groups to consider, for a trial period, taking this approach Small groups can be based on friends, neighbors, or a common interest or hobby. Meet once a week (frequency is important) Include: o prayer, o social time (food and sharing) o short hoondokae (World Scripture 2nd edition is recommended, or readings and discussion points from the Sunday sermon), o weekly personal goal setting (and reporting) o invite guests
Especially important is the setting and sharing of personal goals. When we have experiences with God (which happens when we challenge ourselves to do things that will make us better people) – the excitement comes to want to share that with others.
4) Teach DP and basic internal guidance, that will lead new guests on the path to the Blessing and to become an owner of Cheon Il Guk (God’s ideal).
One possible way is through one-on-one DP study (described in Rev Kazakos’ video). Another option is to bring guests to the White House for a 1-Day DP seminar (offered every month) – and the Monday evening ongoing DP study sessions.
Along with this – we need some simple, clear, and attractive materials. This is something HQ is trying to provide and that we can work on improving.
Our goal is to double our membership by 2017. We can do it if we are willing to make changes and invest ourselves. It begins with me.

Adult Education After being retired for a couple of years and completing all the jobs my wife had lined up for me, I began to feel somewhat useless and decided to enroll in a couple of courses at the local adult-education school.
I noted, upon registration, that there was no tuition fee for a person over 65.
As I handed my tediously-filled-out papers to the clerk, I announced, “I’m 68.” Then, pulling out my wallet, I asked if she wanted to see my driver’s license.
She replied, “No, that’s okay.”
A little surprised, I asked, “Oh, do I look honest?”
“No,” she answered. “You look 68.”

Community Community Meeting: Next Sunday, April 13, all members are invited to stay after service for a simple lunch and a community meeting – with a short report and opportunity for discussion and Q & A.. At this meeting Rev Compton will be sharing a short video and report concerning outreach success stories
Sunday School Yard Sale: We will be having a yearly Tag Sale for our Sunday School on April 27th, right after the Sunday Service at Belvedere. The 2014 Peace King Cup Fishing Tournament is Here!
We are happy to announce the 2014 Fishing Tournament held in honor of True Parents’ 54th Holy Wedding Anniversary, May 3 ~ May 16, 2014. Fishing will take place on the Hudson River and adjacent bays in NY and NJ area. We welcome individuals and groups from churches, clubs and businesses; bring your family and friends! Register for the tournament and fish on your own, or join us on an Ocean Church vessel. We can accommodate 14 anglers each weekday, and more on the weekends.
Tournament Dates: May 3 Morning ~ May 16 Midnight
Designated Fishing Area: From Half Moon Bay on the Hudson near Croton, NY to the New York
lower bay including Raritan Bay Entry Fee: $40 per participant, including children. Participants can fish as often as they want
during the tournament period with the one-time fee.
Other I have a small dog, pikannees.i love him very much but i have to find home for him because, i am moving. Hyo jong.
Peter and I would like to give away a few items to anyone who can come and get them from our home in Pawling. I have some pictures attached.
The items are: IKEA bunkbed (no mattresses) IKEA twinbed (mattress included if they want it) 2 Wooden rolling desk chairs. The seats need to be attached more securely to the wheel bases, but if someone is handy they are both nice. A wooden painted white rocking chair. There may be other items, too, but the main challenge will be for someone to drive to Pawling with a truck or van. (Just about 50 minutes from Tarrytown).
