WestRock Family Church News for October 13, 2013

As you may have heard I was away last week. I am sorry I missed Justin Okamoto’s sermon – everyone I spoke to liked it very much. Luckily I have the recording. If you missed it, you can listen to it if you go to the link below (Sermons).

This past Saturday I met with the local NY District pastors. We went over the model charter for local churches that is being developed by the National Council. Hopefully the final details will be worked out this weekend and the document will be available for all to see.

As I am sure you are aware, this is an important time of transition. In the past True Father, or the Korean leaders, appointed each church leader to his or her position. And although True Mother may still appoint leaders, the time is coming for us all to become leaders and take ownership in our local communities by becoming active participants. In the new pastor-council system, there will be a strong vertical line centered on the pastor, but in addition the members of the council, chosen by the community, will play an important role. I am sure that where there is good participation, cooperation and unity between the vertical (pastor) and the horizontal (council) there is going to be the best result.

And please remember that we need our community of faith – as it represents (even temporarily) our tribe and nation. I don’t know of many members who have successfully established a Tribal-Messiahship foundation. To compensate for that, and to support the future success of our tribes, we need to fully invest ourselves so that our church community becomes one that is strong, growing, developing, and giving life to us and to those we who connect with us.

My sermon topic this last week was, “Looking A Little Deeper.” Let’s all look at ourselves and those around us a little deeper. Let’s make effort to look at who we are, our Blessing, and the truth that our Heavenly Parent has given us a little deeper. If we do, I am sure we will find the inspiration to accomplish the goals our True Mother has given us.
