Dr Balcomb gave us a message that I believe we can all relate to (see link below under “Sermon”. Heaven wants to work in amazing ways – but as we all know, and as our DP teaches – our Heavenly Parent can’t work if we don’t do our part.
True Mother asked us to give our very best in the 100 days leading up to the first anniversary of True Father’s ascension (August 23). To help us get more focused, Dr Balcomb suggested that members make a more specific 40 day period of prayer and outreach.
I know the outreach word, “witnessing” has been challenging. But I am sure we can make it into a positive experience. In order to make it a bit easier, in WestRock we are developing a strategy that may, if successful, provide a model for others.
We are going to have a special event on Sunday June 30 (from 2 pm – 5 pm at Belvedere). It’s going to be fun, It’s going to be doing something (not just listening to a speech), and there will be music and taste snacks. And, it’s something that everyone can do, young and old, even someone like me.
We are going to make bookmarks. Yes, simple – but beautiful, bookmarks, and a lot of them. The overall purpose is to help raise funds for an orphanage in Haiti. Haiti is one of the 20 poorest nations in the world and is still trying to recover from the devastating 2010 earthquake. The plan is to use these bookmarks to raise donations for the orphanage.
I believe, if we put or mind to it, we can bring a lot of people to this event, and even our youth can bring their friends. At the event I will give a very short introduction to our movement, the Divine Prinicple, and our vision for world peace.
Later, when we go out to the public and ask for donations for these bookmarks – we will have the opportunity to meet more people who we can invite to our programs.
One bit of good news – we held a 1-Day DP workshop at the camp on Saturday (June 8) and we had 2 - 2nd gen guests and 2 – new guests. One guest was hearing it for the first time. He is very excited about the Principle and is planning to attend the membership class this coming Sunday afternoon.
Let’s make it a great week! God Bless You! Andrew Compton
This past Sunday Dr. Balcomb gave the sermon at camp Sunrise: If you missed the sermon the video is available: (Also included is an original song honoring True Father by Marcus Knight) vimeo.com/68279020
Light Thought for the Day: (in honor of Andrew & Uyanga Love who just had their first baby – congratulations!)
Preparation for Parenthood MESS TEST: Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Now rub your hands in the wet flower bed and rub on the walls. Cover the stains with crayons. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.
TOY TEST: Obtain a 55-gallon box of Legos. (If Legos are not available, you may substitute roofing tacks or broken bottles.) Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream (this could wake a child at night).
GROCERY STORE TEST: Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage.
DRESSING TEST: Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff it into a small
net bag making sure that all arms stay inside.
FEEDING TEST: Obtain a large plastic milk jug. Fill it halfway with water. Suspend from the ceiling with a stout cord. Get the jug swinging. Try to insert spoonfuls of soggy cereal (such as Fruit Loops or Cheerios) into the mouth of the jug while pretending to be an airplane. Now dump the contents of the jug on the floor.
NIGHT TEST: Prepare by obtaining a small cloth bag and fill it with 8 to 12 pounds of sand. Soak it thoroughly in water. At 8 PM begin to waltz and hum with the bag until 9 PM. Lay down your bag and set your alarm for 10:00 PM. Get up, pick up your bag, and sing every song you have ever heard. Make up about a dozen more and sing them until 4:00 AM. Set alarm for 5:00 AM. Get up and make breakfast. Keep this up for 5 years. Look cheerful.
PHYSICAL TEST (WOMEN): Obtain a large bean-bag chair and attach it to the front of your clothes. Leave it there for 9 months. Now remove 10% of the beans.
PHYSICAL TEST (MEN): Go to the nearest drug store. Set your wallet on the counter. Ask the clerk to help himself. Now proceed to the nearest food store. Go to the head office and arrange for your paycheck to be directly deposited to the store. Purchase a newspaper. Go home and read it quietly for the last time.
FINAL ASSIGNMENT: Find a couple who already has a small child. Lecture them on how they can improve their child’s discipline, patience, tolerance, toilet training, and table manners. Suggest many things they can improve as well. Emphasize to them that they should never allow their children to run riot. Enjoy this experience. It will be the last time you’ll have all the answers.

Quote for the Week
Psalm 136:12 with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his steadfast love endures forever;
God uses broken things. It takes broken soil to produce a crop, broken clouds to give rain, broken grain to give bread, broken bread to give strength. It is the broken alabaster box that gives forth perfume. It is Peter, weeping bitterly, who returns to greater power than ever.
