Light Thought for the Barrytown. I want to give special thanks to Rev Gavin Hamnett who, with the support of day his wife Cindy, has been investing and caring for our members there. . Providential News . Quote for the Week I don’t know if you have heard, but our American church has been asked to choose 87 . Announcements members to receive the “True Parents’ Award.” When True Mother spoke after True Father’s Seonghwa she mentioned that she wanted members to work hard and that those who set the highest example would be given this award.
This has made me reflect on our members. We have some amazing brothers and sisters in our church communities. Many of you have been through numerous high points and low points in your life course. Related to that, there is one bit of wisdom I want to emphasize – we need to recognize that there are things I can change and there are things I cannot change. And it is usually the case that the things I can change are the problems that are within myself, and the things I cannot change are the problems in others. And so, do not let your anger or disappointment in others prevent you from pursuing the path that God has for you to walk. If we each seek God’s guidance as to how we can improve ourselves - as we lift ourselves up – we will find that those who are close to us are also lifted up.
About the “True Parents Award,” this Sunday at church you will be given the opportunity to nominate 5 people to receive this award. The guidelines that were given by Dr. Michael Balcomb are:
International Headquarters has already indicated that candidates should be exemplary members with outstanding accomplishments in the key areas of evangelism and witnessing, including bringing spiritual children; raising blessed children to receive the Blessing; liberation of ancestors; tithing and other donations; church service attendance; distribution of autobiographies, and more.
To this important list I would like to add other, less tangible elements of faith and commitment for your consideration. These can include, but are not limited to, things such as voluntary service in and outside the church; voluntary participation in councils and other church bodies; teaching the Divine Principle, leading prayer services, and other religious practices; Sunday School teaching and other methods of discipleship and stewardship.
You may also consider nominating those who have cheerfully overcome significant challenges, such as losing a partner through death or divorce; raising children alone; or even the loss of a child, yet managed to maintain their faith and commitment to the work of God and True Parents. I also want to encourage the recommendation of younger members, and the second generation, and others who have made a great commitment to God’s work here in America.
In all of the above areas, I suggest giving heavier weight to current and recent efforts, rather than those achieved long ago.
Please prayerfully consider which 5 people you would like have represent America from the NY District.
Thank you, and God Bless You, Andrew Compton
Debby Gullery gave an inspiring sermon at WestRock – that fits well with Hyung Jin Nim and Yeon Ah Nim’s sermon from last Sunday. It was recorded in 2 parts – the links are below

Light Thought for the Day
Elderly Driver I was sitting on my lawn sunning myself and reading when I was startled by a fairly late model car that crashed through my hedge and came to rest just in front of me. I helped the elderly driver out of the car and sat her down on a lawn chair.
I noted, “It’s quite remarkable that you are still driving at your age.”
“Yes,” she replied. “I’m old enough that I don’t need a license any more.”
“How is that possible?”
“The last time my doctor examined me, he asked if I had a driver’s license. I told him yes and handed it to him. He took scissors out of a drawer, and as he cut the license into pieces he said, ‘You won’t be needing this any more.’ So I thanked him and drove home.”
