In Search of God

In my life’s pursuit of God, I have contemplated the questions, Who is God? How did God originate? What is God? Where is God?
In the last year or so I have formulated the following thought on the nature of God, taking certain words of Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s as a starting point.
I begin with three fundamental concepts of Rev. Moon: that the origin of existence can not be energy— since energy can not generate itself—but is the reciprocal relationship of two subject and object partners, which produces energy; that God is love, or more fundamentally, was born and developed from love; and that love is the only power that expands with action, rather than diminishing, giving God an eternal existence. So, putting these ideas together, I have developed the following theory of God.
Since something can not come from nothing, the “something” which has always existed is the original unit of subject and object—the original seed of God and all that He has created. This first seed has a shell composed of energy created by the interaction of the two original subject and object partners. From “the beginning,” as we say, this primary seed already contained internal character and external form, masculine and feminine, a consciousness of each partner and self-awareness on the part of each partner, and a desire of each partner to be united with its opposite.
Existence depended upon the subject and object partners being aware that their unity could only happen by giving to the other, creating a harmonious unity and eternal existence, rather than trying to unite by taking from the other, which would result in conflict and self destruction. Because the unity of the first seed of the subject and object partners took place in this way, the energy that was created through their interaction can be considered the consciousness or mind of the seed, and we can call that energy or mind, Love.
In fact, this first seed could create enough energy by interacting to maintain its own existence, and have enough energy left over to create another seed of subject and object partners. In this way, an explosion of energy and creation that began with the first seed, has been expanding ever since, and will continue forever.
As more and more subject and object partner units were created, they also interacted with one another, creating a massive web of interacting, ever expanding subject and object units. Their individual consciousnesses formed a collective consciousness. When a critical mass was reached, God was born. God’s mind and heart is the collective consciousness of all the units, (His internal character) and the massive web of subject and object partners is God’s being or external form.
In this way, we can say that before God, there was Love, and that God is Love.
Rev. Moon says God was born and developed. As He developed, He realized that as a being of Love, He had the desire to have an object partner. This is what motivated Him to create.
As God developed, with a desire to have a partner, He experimented with changing the orbit, angle, direction and speed of the various units of subject and object partners which makes up His being, creating
sensations that pleased Him. These sensations could be categorized into five fields of sensations. Next, he envisioned a universe populated with beings similar to Himself which would have the ability to transmit and receive these five categories of sensations.
In fact, by manipulating the stuff that God is made of in such a way, He could create out of Himself, the spiritual world and the physical universe, populating it with organisms, plants, insects, birds, fish, animals, angels and humans, all of which could relate, communicate and interact with each other, because they all have in common the same makeup of subject and object units, and the ability to transmit and receive the five categories of senses. And of course, we humans would become the partner He desired.
So, when we ask the question, where is God, where is the center of God, or how can God be everywhere at the same time, we can see that everything is God, and His mind or consciousness, which is Love, is like an electric current running through all of His being, making Him omnipresent.
If man had not fallen, and lost his spiritual senses, we would be able to naturally be aware of God’s presence at all times.
“Why and how did God come into existence? He came into being due to love. How did the origin of the universe come to be realized? The seed of love was assimilated by God as the object partner, with the result that God Himself came to possess internal nature and external form. Based on what did this come about? It was based on love. The same holds true for you. Through the love of your mother and father, you were given the seed of life, the one cell that grew what you are today; in a similar manner God became the being He is today. His eyes,His nose, and every feature of His were formed in this way. He is exactly the same as us.” - Sun Myung Moon Page 1,638 of the Cheong Seong Gyeong
Why did God start his existence and how? Because of love. Because of the seed of love in which there was a subject and an object, and out of this one seed of love came God, just as you began as one seed of love from your parents. This one small seed then multiplied. So God was made from one single love cell and from this came the entire universe.
Adam is the ancestor of all males and Eve the ancestress of all females. In other words, they are the seeds of man and woman. They are the two halves. Everything is made up of two halves enclosed in a single shell, symbolizing God and the universe. Within the unified God are dual characteristics, and within them the embryo, seed and nucleus. - Sun Myung Moon (1/30/94)
Scientists say that the universe is made of energy, and that it originated from energy. But this is not so. An electric current does not flow just because there is potential energy. Electricity is generated through action. And before action, there must be a plus and a minus — that is, a subject partner and an object partner. — Sun Myung Moon 1/3/1971
The more love moves, the more it expands, rather than diminishes. According to the laws of dynamics in nature, the more things move and operate, the less you have, right? In nature, things diminish the more they move, but in the world of true love, things expand the more they move. — Sun Myung Moon 11/13/1992
At the 1st Annual UTS Graduates Alaska Workshop, Father asked a small group of graduates gathered at his house in Anchorage after the workshop if they had any questions. Linda Howell said her two daughters were always asking her where God came from, so she asked this question to Father. His reply: “Before God, there was Love.” —9/9/1996
