WH1CH is THE BETTER LIPE? However mych you may have an abundance of know- ledge a.n d wisc:Jom, if you do n.o t know what is the value of !Pan and what is the purpose of man. then it is not exaggerating to say that you are entirely ignorant about life as a human being, Until today, people have sought happy lives and felt that happiness came from ~ttainment of position, wealth and knowledge. Thus, they have been proud of their positions or wealth or knowledge and various scholastic degrees. Of course, these things are part of the necessi- ties lending to the human happiness. Those people are unjustly proud, however, because they do not know about the most important and vital points about life. Then, what are these vital points? Briefly, it is understanding of the true way of life and the purpose of life . Without this fundamental understanding, man cannot be justifiably proud of his existence. Regardless of the extent of your knowledge, if that knowledge is not founded upon the funda- mental understanding of the value and purpose of human life, you are entirely ignorant. Though you attain the highest position and highest rank in the political world, if you do not know. what is the purpose . Qf_llu…- 1 ife. you znay make gre~ n>J.4M.crl<O!lJ rn your work. Today, t:ru:s worJ.d is administered and led by so-called “clever and wise” leaders; yet, in this world there is chaos, struggling and destruction of human life. Thia is be- cause our leaders do not know the true purpose of lifei if they knew, their administrations would not be destructive, because true purpose brings peace and harmony.
However much you have material wealth, if you do not know the purpose of human life, how can you make your wealth serve you in realizing purpose? Not knowing true human purpose, the desire for material wealth brings individual troubles and corruption as well as social cor- ruption. Because of lack of understanding about how material “fits into” the purpose of human existence, material has become relatively valueless except to serve our greedy and lusty desires. Today, millionaires are respected by many people only outwardly; inwardly they are despised because they do not know the true value of human life. Only superficial people can respect or love them; sincere people can- not. Then, where is the value of material wealth which is obtained by our sweat? What is it that the rich sometimes, admittedly, envy in the happiness of the poor? You may have many degrees and abundant knowledge, but if you do not know value and the purpose of human life, you can only teach the people knowledge that will enable them to live no better than animal existences. Many teachers and materialists today teach us that man is just mass, just an animal; and thus, man has, unconsciously, become just mass, just an au..Li11e1.i … . 1 ike a machine. If this were not so, then we would alreaay hav~ uncountable good men as well as good society; however they have not been able to because they lacked power not knowing human purpose. On the contrary, schol- ars and educators and many people have become agnostics and skeptical and, in most cases, only added to the confusion of society. Therefore, however much we give our blood, sweat and tears to attain high position, to
gain wealth, to gain knowledge and wisdom, etc., if we do not know the value and purpose of human life, we are no different from any other creatures from God’s point of view which is the universal point of view. We have lived lives less valuable and meaningful than animals, insects and all other things in nature. In support of this statement, our human history shows r·learly that we have been killing and fighting, we have adultery and deception, we do not honor our parents and elders, we steal from each other, etc. All this has come from basically, three negative principles: greed, lust and license, the ultimate causes of crime in this universe. Is there any other existence which has shown itself to be as destructive as human beings are to themselves, to each other and to this universe? The human being is more cruel and “untrue” than any other existence in this universe. When we observe human form and body, we can see that man is the supreme existence rela- tive to all other existences with regards to organs, structure and capability. But why, then do our lives seem so insignificant in this universe? Briefly, again we can say that it is because we do not know the essence of life which is value and purpose of human life. According to the universal point of view, ignorance of purpose in life makes the human being the lowest creature on earth even though he was created as the lord of creation. We must know purpose, first, before any other accumulation of knowledge. If we do not know this, we can never escape from justifiably being referred to by ourselves and by all
others, s.h amefully, as sinful creatures, and thus, we can never have peace and true joy and happiness. Therefore, we would like to disclose to you about what is the true value and purpose ~f human eKiStence, through truth, reasonably and practically and meaningfully. So, please come to discuss with us at our Center or re- quest our Correspondence course (50~/eaoh contribution for postage and other eKpenses incurred).
