[TV Chosun] Kim Jong-Un Sent Message of Condolence on the ‘Third Seonghwa Memorial of Rev. Sun Myung Moon’

[Anchor] Yesterday, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the ascension of the late founder of the Unification Church Rev. Sun Myung Moon, North Korea sent a message of condolence to the bereaved family. The late founder of the Unification Church Rev. Sun Myung Moon is known for his deep relationship with North Korea, most notably promoting economic interchange between North and South Korea with the late North Korean Premier Kim Il-Sung.

[Reporter] Kim Jong-Un of North Korea sent a message to the bereaved family of the late founder of Unification Church Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who ascended in September, 2012.

In his message, Kim Jong-Un stated, “On the occasion of the third anniversary of the ascension of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and to the bereaved family” and also mentioned, “Rev. Sun Myung Moon had made great efforts for world peace, and it is my greatest hope that Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and the bereaved family will carry on his will and legacy.”

Kim Jong-Un had also sent a message of condolence when Rev. Sun Myung Moon passed away in 2012, due to complications of cold and pneumonia, and awarded him with the “National Reunification Award.”

Rev. Moon is the late founder of the Unification Church, and the Unification Church is presently operating various entities including educational organizations and media agencies.

Rev. Moon met Kim Il-Sung of North Korea in 1991, and made agreements on economic interchange between North and South Korea. He also contributed toward realizing the Inter-Korean Summit, the meeting of separated families between North and South and the development of Kumgangsan.

Some analyze that the Unification Church and North Korea had a lot in common since the Juche ideology and the only governing system of North Korea are close to that of a “religious community.”

Family Federation for World Peace and Unification disclosed the condolence message sent by Chairman Kim Jong-Un and the wreath sent by the Chairman of Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee Kim Yang-

In the message, Chairman Kim Jong-Un stated that he is offering his “deepest condolences to Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and to the bereaved family,” and revealed that “Rev. Sun Myung Moon had made profound efforts toward realizing ethnic reconciliation and unity, the reunification of Korea and world peace.”

On August 30, the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) disclosed, “The Chairman of National Defense Commission of North Korea Kim Jong-Un sent a message of condolence, and the Chairman of Korean Asia- Pacific Peace Committee Kim Yang-Gon sent a wreath on the occasion of the Third Seonghwa (Ascension) Anniversary of the late founder of the Unification Church Rev. Sun Myun Moon.” This day, the FFWPU held “The Third Universal Seonghwa Memorial of Sun Myung Moon, the True Parent of Heaven, Earth and Humankind” at the Cheongshim Peace in Gapyeon-gun Gyeonggi- do, with more than 30,000 participants, some of whom were prominent figures from Korea and abroad, including the President and First Lady of Kiribati.

In his condolence message disclosed during the Memorial entitled, “To the bereaved family of Rev. Sun Myung Moon,” Chairman Kim Jong-Un wrote, “On the occasion of the third anniversary of the ascension of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification’s late founder Rev. Sun Myung Moon, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and to the bereaved family. During his lifetime, Rev. Sun Myung Moon had made profound efforts toward realizing ethnic reconciliation and unity, the reunification of Korea and world peace. It is my greatest hope that Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and the bereaved family will carry on the will and legacy of Rev. Sun Myung Moon.”
