International Symposium - 3rd Anniversary of Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Seonghwa

On August 24, 10 AM, the “International Symposium in Commemoration of the Third Anniversary of Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Seonghwa,” hosted by the Institute for Research on Sun Myung Moon, Unification Thought Institute and Professors World Peace Academy, will be held at the International Conference Room at Sun Moon University, with more than 1,000 participants including professors, leaders and students under the theme, “Rev. Moon’s Peace and Unification Movements and Vision,” in commemoration of the Third Seonghwa Memorial of Rev. Sun Myung Moon.

Most notably, in this International Symposium, Dr. Johan Galtung, renowned founder of the academic discipline of peace studies, will be giving a keynote speech on the theme, “Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s thoughts on peace from a perspective of peace studies.” Dr. Johan Galtung, a leading scholar in peace studies from Norway was awarded the 6th Korean DMZ Peace Prize in the field of academic research in 2010. He has founded the Peace Research Institute in Oslo, and has served as executive director of the TRANSCEND Peace Network. He is carrying out his activities, along with his representative books including “Journal of Peace Research” and “Global Militarization.”

The International Symposium is an opportunity to shed new light on the thoughts and legacy of Rev. Sun Myung Moon from an academic point of view. Participants will study and discuss Rev. Moon’s life achievements in eight areas; academic thought, religious peace, peace in the Korean peninsula, world peace, social movements, future peace, peace within families and cultural art, and provide ways to practice them consistently.

The symposium will begin with Professors World Peace Academy Chairman Dae-O Son’s welcoming remarks, followed by Sun Moon University President Sun-Jo Hwang’s opening remarks, as well as Professor Johan Galton’s keynote speech. Then, there will be presentations and comments based on these eight sessions. A banquet will be held after the general discussion.

Meanwhile, this symposium is an opportunity to shed new light on the thoughts and legacy of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, and shall serve as a forum to discuss in depth the thoughts of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, which goes beyond existing religious arguments
