President Anote Tong of Kiribati and Dr. Modadugu V. Gupta of India were selected as the co-recipients for the first Sunhak Peace Prize.
The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee has revealed that President Anote’s efforts to raise awareness on the gravity of climate change in the global community and protect the rights of refugees affected by the climate, have been highly praised. Dr. Gupta has been highly recognized for his contributions towards resolving East Asia’s poverty and food crisis through innovative fish farming technology. For this, they were selected as co-recipients.
The Sunhak Peace Prize was established by the founder of the Family Federation, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and his wife Dr. Hak Ja Han for the sake of world peace and the welfare of humankind. The monetary prize for this award is one million U.S. dollars, (1,000, 000, 000 won) making it the award with the greatest accompanying monetary prize in the world. The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee revealed on the 9th that Kiribati President Anote Tong and India’s Dr. Modadugu V. Gupta were selected as the co-recipients of the first Sunhak Peace Prize (Chairman Il- Shik Hong, former secretary general of Korea University). The award ceremony will be held in Seoul in August of this year.
